This is not a Renault “4 L” (“L” for luxury) but the R3 van. The "L" had a small window in the rear quarter, upholstered seats, etc. As well as many other differences such as the chrome front grille and, among other things, a four-speed gearbox.

Les R3 et R4 de base étaient strictement identiques extérieurement, en 1961, les seules différences étant la cylindrée et... le sigle 3 ou 4 sur le hayon. De plus, ju débit de fabrication jusqu'à l'année modèle 1968, elles ont toutes bénéficié d'une boîte à trois rapports (et 6 volts jusqu'à 1967).

Incredible amount of work...terrifying tin-worm and all beautifully rebuilt and new bodywork created and welded in. Brilliant success. I listened to it on mute and really enjoyed this video. I had the same model and year, as well as three other Renault 4,s in the 1970,s and 80,s, in the UK and Africa...they could go anywhere a Land Rover went, but with better wheel contact. Unique little cars with really eccentric character, unlike the electronic bathtubs of today. Thanks!

Bel esemplare restaurato perfettamente!, e in modo professionale Per essere un veicolo del 1961, e quindi uno dei primi esemplari, non aveva tanta ruggine passante , salvo sui sottoporta . Bel lavoro👍👍

My old housemaster from school was a Renault 4 nut,he had loads of them.He'd send components,engines and body shells to my father to restore or repair for him, I remember as a school boy carting the smaller stuff like pistons,starter motors etc. back and forth between school and my father's workshop for his restorations.

Congratulations, really good work, now even, it's truly a masterpiece, even better, than when it came brand new, off the assembly line, from Renault itself. Certainly, now, even better than then, as the materials are new or brought back to life, the paintwork, obviously, are other better and more resistant materials, to face another 20 years and more, at least..... .the treatment done to the bodywork is an additional intervention, certainly better, compared to 60 years ago and counting.....very well done and truly congratulations from the bottom of my heart ❤ ❤️😘🤞💪🏻👋🥰👍💪✌️💯💯💯🤝 🤝🤝🤝🤗🥂

¡¡SOBRESALIENTE!! Que trabajo tan espectacular. De todos modos si me preguntaran qué vehículo es ese, yo diría, por la ausencia de cristales traseros que es un Renault 3. Yo tengo un R4 de 1977 que me encantaría llevar al taller, pero creo que esta restauración habrá costado unos 15.000 euros 😅😅

Because it is missing the small rear side windows it is a Renault 3. A very basic and cheaper version of Renault 4. Only made for France. Very rare now

Joli travail! mais il ne s'agit pas d'une 4L, mais d'une Renault 3, la version économique de la 4L. j'en ai eu une en première voiture, il y a longtemps! Pas de garnitures de portes, volant 3 branches, pas de jauge à carburant mais juste un témoin, pas de calandre alu et portières de phare peintes et non chromées, pas de vitres de custode et les vitres des portes arrière monobloc, non coulissantes, entre autres... Et un monogramme en alu brossé "3" sur le hayon arrière, absent sur ce modèle, devenu très rare!

Non, pas forcément. La vitre de custode était réservée aux R4 L ou Super, les R3 et R4 n'en avaient pas. Et, de plus, de nombreuses versions de Renault 4, destinées aux administrations, n'avaient pas cette troisième glace, et ce presque jusqu'à fin de production des Renault 4. Ici, il s'agit d'un rarissime modèle de présérie, reconnaissable à la goulotte re remplissage de réservoir basse, et à son capot "lisse", sans bossage central. Donc il ne s'agit absolument pas d'une R4L, mais en fait d'une R4. Cette restauration avait fait l'objet d'articles de journaux en France, et a été menée par une équipe spécialisée dans les Renault anciennes...

Ich denke eher, daß das ein Renault R3 ist, sicherlich aber kein R4L. Der 4L müßte doch hinten das dritte Seitenfenster haben und verchromte Stoßstangen sowie Radkappen.

The R4 was my 1st car as a student in Germany. A 1976 Model in White. Only 850cc & 32 HP if not mistaken. I drove that for almost 4 years, welded a new Floor Board, repainted in Red & sold off. Till today still with Positive sweet memories.❤
