Renault 4L 4X4 - Car Restoration 

Love the Renault 4,. had a Renault 4 pick up truck in the 80s it was great fun and really reliable.

Kudos to you my friend. This is not a car restoration, this is THE car restoration.

The soundtrack is heinous.

Superb job, thank you for posting. We had a Renault 4 saloon 2 wheel drive on the farm in 1970 , That vehicle would go any ware, better than a Land Rover, and more comfortable.

Ich habe ein paar Tränen der Rührung vergossen! Ja! So muss es gemacht werden. Super Arbeit. Ich habe alle Bauteile sofort erkannt und mich an die Zeit vor 35 Jahren erinnert. Mit Wagenheber, Flex und Autogenschweissgerät habe ich fast ausschließlich R4 in allen Variationen restauriert. Mein persönlicher R4F4 hatte einen 65 PS R5-Motor, 5-Gang -Getriebe und ging ab wie Schmitz´Katze. Er hat mich bis Marokko und mehrfach durch die Türkei begleitet. Tücke des Objekts: Öldruckschalter und Kühlwassertemperatur gehen auf dieselbe rote Warnleuchte. Eine nächtliche Fehldiagnose (Rote Lampe flimmert) hat ihn das Leben gekostet. Bei geschätzten 230.000 km wollte ich dann die geplatzte Kopfdichtung nicht mehr erneuern. Dann wären als nächstes nämlich die Pleuelllager dran gewesen. RIP !

In the 70's I had a chance to drive one of these off road at Camp Caylus, not far from Montauban...I think it was foreign Legion....the camp was a parachute training camp. I was surprised at how good it was...hig summer no mud, but it tackled a lot of humpy tracks and steep climbs with ease.........I later owned a Kangoo Trekka because of my experience with the R4 4x4.....and again I was not dissapointed........now the Duster has taken over....not driven one off road yet.

Had one the same colour, same Sinpar 4x4 but it was a RHD one. Damn thing would go through the most amazingly bad mud etc and was genuinely very good off road.

Not fast car but go anywhere slow pace, enjoin ride for the sake of it with some offloading. Nice work.

Top restoration, considering the terrain I could get my FWD Renault 4 trough the capabilities of this 4x4 must be amazing. But some of the pictures also did me remember the weak points of this car, especially the drum brakes (this on had front disc brakes which must make it stop a lot better) and the rust at the rear wheel wells and front chassis cross member.

You should do a recording of the road test video. Not simply just putting pictures of the car on a slide show. How do we know that the car is functioning just by showing us only the pictures????

Ok so motor and transmission are backwards and the radiator sits ontop of the transmission. The muffler is inside the front fender above the wheel? So weird.

alors ça c'est rare. Je savait qu'il existait des 2CV 4x4 (technologie voisin si je me rapelle bien) mais là c'est globalement la même chose mais sur une 4L (une F4 pas facile d'en trouver une en bon état vu l'utilité qu'elles avaient) du franchissement??? pas de problèmes c'est une voiture qui à la base passe déja dans des endroits que peut de voitures peuvent affronter alors en 4x4 hormis la 2cv dans la même configuration il n'y a que des monstres (ou la panda 4x4 des années 80) qui peuvent rivaliser une très bonne restauration ça serait presque dommage de l'utiliser (je connais l'un des créateurs d'un rassemblement de 4L dans le Loir-et-Cher mais je ne sait pas si le rassemblement existe toujours mais elle aurait toute sa place)

Todo muy bien, muy bonito, pero ya que gastas dinero dejas el motor mal? Segmentos? Camisas y pistones nuevos tenías que haber puesto, están fatal , y esa culata está corroída en una zona importante. El color es muy bonito y ha quedado de fábula.
