EDIT: It's been 2 years now... still waiting on my paint :(
This was supposed to be a quicky mild refresh that ended up into an almost 2 year project. This is the 4th time I've built this bike and hopefully the last. 1950ish factory rigid rear frame section modified to fit a 1960-1962 duplex front frame. Unit external forks with MCM fork covers, preunit frying pan front drum. Modified factory rigid rear fender, Selle seat and Haifley Bros p-pad. Hap Jone tank. 1960-1962 pull back risers with Harley angled risers and pre-unit drag bars. Do-Ray light. 1962 Bonneville motor with various accoutrements.

was the 50s hardtail section a direct bolt up to the duplex frame? I have a 61 Id like to hardtail but dont like the aftermarket stretched out options. thanks Travis

Like the bike! Where did you get the acorn rear axle nuts along with the collared inset washers for for the rear axle tension adjustments in order to use the early frame chain adjusment bolts? Nice set up for using the narrow rear axle/wheel hub on the early rigid rear frame.

The axle nuts are a aftermarket part, which I think are pretty easy to find. I have a nice new chrome set going on. I made the collars on my lathe. The speedo delete is a Troy Fab piece. The rear axle is actually stock unit and I notched the axle to fit in the axle plates. But there exists a drawing set for creating the correct spacers to use a smaller rigid rear axle on a later frame. I just didn't want to open up the stock axle plates.

@@vorhese Thanks for the info. I have several early rigids. The last bobber I put together I made a new axle out of 5/8" stock and turned the outer ends to accept the early 9/16" hardware while using the 5/8" bearings. That was a lot of work. On my latetst project I am using an early preunit 5/8" axle/rear hub that does not have the speedo drive but I need something like the turned collar you made in order to use the stock adjusters. I find the old frames accept the 5/8" axles without modification since the original 9/16" adjustment collar washers slipped over the axle so the frame opening is actially 5/8". Check out my wifes facebook page and there is some photos of my last bobber. Cheers dano..........

Did you call those tips "Superior Trumpet"? I'm not having luck searching those out
@vorhese
@vorhese 2 года назад
Often they are listed as just Trumpet. They are from the 70s and 80s I think and seem to pop up on ebay a lot. Couple different lengths. I think Throttle Addiiction makes a sort of repop that is held on with a hanger.
