Sam is the man! I stored my lower ball joints in my deep freezer overnight, then pulled them out right before I pressed them in. I think it helped a lot. I just did this last month on my C10, well worth it.

Great Job..I hate to be picky but when you swung the left rotor straight..you had your hand on the tin backing plate and you bent it towards the rotor I have seen this a lot on cars I have repaired..I always bend them back and away from the rotor..because if they rub or a rock gets stuck under them they make all kinds of weird noises..Thanks for the video

Great video but I was nervous as all hell when he was pulling the lower ball joint, I kept looking at the spring wondering when it was gonna pop out and him him in the head glad everything worked out great!

Will this kit fit stock steel 6 lug rims on my 1968 chevy c10? Id like to convert to disc brake and keep my powder coated 6 lug rims and just ordered whitewalls so definetly dont want to change rim size. Thank you for informative video.

Great video! Question for you. Do I need a new Master Cylinder and booster to install this kit? Or will it work with my original Booster/master cylinder? I know I would need to add a proportioning valve right?

Ideally you should at least change the master cylinder. Disc type master cylinders have a different bore size than those used in a drum brake system. Additionally, most disc type maters cause a small amount of residual pressure to remain in the lines to keep the pads from retracting too far.

Down the road when parts wear out, are calipers, pads, and rotors available separately? Seems like a nice kit, but not if you can't maintain it. I checked the website and didn't see the parts available seperately, but maybe I looked in the wrong place.

You can do a disc brake conversion without adding power providing you run the proper master cylinder and proportioning valve. However, we would recommend doing both at the same time.

99% of stock 15" or bigger wheels work. There are VERY few wheels that won't. We've actually never come across any that don't.

You need to change the factory master to a Disc/Drum master that will deliver proper pressure front and rear as well as hold residual pressure in the front. Not sure, but you might be wanting to convert to Power Brakes at the same time. Check out our website www.brotherstrucks.com for all the possibilities.

I have a 1962 chevy C10 which I will be putting disc brakes on for the front, is there a vehicle that I can snatch the spindle from used that would work for my application, or will I have to buy them new? Or is there an adapter bracket that I can buy instead?

There's nothing out there that will bolt straight on to the '62, you're stuck buying disc conversion spindles that are specific for your truck.

Couple of questions.... i have a 63 im slowing fixing up, i am interested going to disc brakes on the front. Would i need to replace the original booster? And will the fit 6 lug gm wheels?

In '63 your factory brakes had a single cylinder master which we always recommend you convert to dual cylinder for safety reasons... so YES, we would say replace the original Booster/Master combo. As for the 6 lug wheels, our disc brake conversion will fit behind MOST 15" factory 6 lug wheels. If your wheels are 14" however, there is almost ZERO chance of them fitting with the disc conversion.

UPDATE: After a doing a little research regarding wheel fitment, we've found a few variables that make some 15" wheels NOT FIT with the disc brake conversion. Primarily, if your 15" wheel has only 3 "nubs" on the center of the wheel to retain a hubcap then your wheel will probably NOT WORK with disc brakes. If your 15" wheel has 4 nubs for hubcap retention, then it WILL WORK with disc brakes. Thank you for asking, we hope this helps.

Adding front disc brakes is a safety and convenience step that most classic truck enthusiasts do. however, adding rear disc brakes is up to you and ultimately what you want your build to be. As far as install cost, we would estimate it between $400-$750 depending on the shop you choose.

Ruben, the studs should be the same size? Why does your truck have small studs? Doe you mean it has 5 studs instead of 6? We have conversions for 5 lug and 6 lug trucks at www.brotherstrucks.com

I'm working on a 72 Chevy c 30 with duallies. Trying to replace the rotors. I suspect the upgrade was already done. None of the rotors I have ordered fit. The rotor itself is too thick for the calipers. Help

It's not necessary. It was a factory installed item in the 60's-70's and it's not common to put them on when doing a conversion.

Roger, typical tapered bearings can be manually adjusted using this method: "... in the case of a conventional truck non-driven wheel with a single adjusting nut design, manual setting involves tightening the adjusting nut while rotating the wheel until a slight bind is felt. Then the adjusting nut is backed off 1/6 to 1/4 turn to the nearest locking hole or sufficiently to allow the wheel to rotate freely with some minimal end play. The adjusting nut is then locked in this position. Skill and judgment are required to determine when the wheel binds slightly in rotation." Will 15” rally wheels fit over the 12” rotors?

The rotors in this kit are 11" and they will fit with a 15" rally. 12" rotors will most likely NOT have enough clearance on most Rally Wheel offsets.

Yeah, bummer nothing is available for the C30. Your best bet is to piece one together from a later year model truck like you said.

Our disc brake kits won't work on a 4x4, 2wd only. Customers who have converted to disc on 4wd trucks normally just swap the axle for a later axle with discs.

Different kits. Balls joints, tie-rods, etc are slightly different through the years, so the parts in the kits also vary.

My lower castle nut won’t tighten enough to get cotter pin on- can I use ball joint press to tighten down spindle onto joint?

you'd be better of to back it off a little bit to the next notch that the cotter pin can be put through instead of trying to use a ball joint press.

No my problem is during assembly. My new ball joint won’t fit into my New lowering spindle. Like I can’t even thread castle nut at all to get to cotter pin.

You have the wrong spindle then. They make these spindles with various different sizes/tapers to accommodate particular years of ball joints that were different sizes. It sounds like you have a spindle that's got an early size tapered hole. If you bought them from us then call our Customer Service at 800-977-2767 and let's get it handled.

Us K guys (we have 3 here at the shop) only option at the moment is to swap axles. No kits are currently available (Sept 2020)

@@Rogue_wyo Tossed this over to the product development guys and they already knew something about this. It sounds like the small bearing spindles would have to be manufactured before a kit could be offered. Otherwise, pre-1970 K guys would have to go out and get a set of spindles from a junk yard, etc before they could mount all the parts for the conversion. This doesn't appear to adapt onto the factory drum spindle.

I know this is an OLDER Video, and it does look interesting but I have a 1970 Chevy Suburban 4X4 and I am looking for info how to CONVERT That from FRONT Drum to DISC. I have done the 2 wheel drives, and THATS ALL the INFO out there anymore. So If anyone can help PLEASE LET ME KNOW! Thanks!!

As far as we know there is no commercially available 4x4 Disc conversion. Most guys switching pre-1971 4x4's to disc just use a front axle from a 1971 or later truck. Sorry we couldn't be more helpful.

You can convert it to disc, but first you have to convert it to 1/2 ton parts. It's really not that big of a deal, just an extra step for the 3/4 ton guys.
