1963 Martin D-28 | Guitar of the Day - Angela Petrilli 

My parents gave me a brand new 1962 Martin D-28 as a high school graduation present in 1963. Price was $385. with a hard case. I have owned it and played it professionally almost daily for 60 years. I have had the neck reset, two Grover tuners replaced & new frets installed over the years. Since I am the original owner, the repairs were free from Martin. It never lets me down. It just gets better the more I play it. A total treasure. Thanks Mom & Dad!

That's my old guitar. I sold it in 1966. It gives me some deep emotions when I see this. It was my first Martin, it was a great ticket to flunking out of Ohio State. I played it for my first love. It was clean as a whistle when I had it. I'm 79 now and the literally hundreds of guitars I've owned since all go back to this D28. My first love...

I've got a 1969 D28 that was one of the last made from Brazilian. It's such a beautiful sounding guitar and plays so easily. They built them so well in the 60's!

I have a ‘67 Martin D21. The last year of the Brazilian back and sides. Beautiful sounding vintage guitar. It has a low end and midrange like no other acoustic I played.

The richness, of a 60 year old Martin, just can't be beat. I believe if that guitar had not been played and loved during its lifetime, the sound would've been completely different. We, also, should appreciate the beauty that comes from a life well-lived and not worry about a few, nicks and wear we've accumulated over the years. I let everyone know, I also, am "player grade". LOL Listening to you play was 10 minutes, I didn't mind losing.

I have nine high end guitars and one is a 1980 Martin D-28 in mint condition with original case and the key to lock it,It's the easiest playing Martin I've ever played or owned and I've owned a lot of Martin guitars,I will never sell or part with this treasure of a guitar,My story of this guitar is I went to several guitar shops and was looking for a brand new Martin guitar because I own several Taylor and Epiphone guitars, Anyway I must have played a hundred different Martin guitars and I am blessed to have the money to buy them so I played D-18s, D-28s,D-35s,D41 to D-45s,I was wanting a brand new one and I didn't care about the cost because like I said I had the money to buy one but I could not find one I liked so the store owner said would you try a special used Martin guitar or consider playing it and I said I really wanted a new one but I played a few more new guitars and finally I said let me try the used one he had anyway this guitar looked brand new I mean it didn't have a blemish on it no where and he said it's a 1980 D-28 and I'm telling you I fell madly in love with this guitar and it's one guitar I'll have till the day I die,But I have several Taylor guitars I feel the same way about,I'm extremely picky about my guitars and if a guitar plays and sounds beautiful then it's one I love, I love acoustic guitars and I love the stories with people who love them as much as I do,There's some really awesome guitars out there that sound and play beautiful..
