Never seen before, rare footage of Scarborough in 1963 with the cameraman, my grandfather, giving a commentary of the area, I think you'll find this video is so much fun and of great interest to watch.

7:13 I was waterskiing in this lake in 1973. A friend who lived in Thirsk was a member of the club, his grandmother lived in Scarborough so we stayed with her for a few days. Happy memories 😊👍♥️🇬🇧

Loved this video, I was born in 1963 would have been just a few month old when this was filmed. We often take short breaks in Scarborough it’s great to see that it’s still very much the same now as it was then. A beautiful part of the North Yorkshire coast. What a good piece of filming for the time. 👍

Omg, what lovely memories of holidays in Scarborough in the 1960,s. Staying at " Aunty Jones" hotel I think it was called the corner house on Albion Square. Mum and dad going for walks in the Italian gardens. Crossing over the valley Bridge to go down to the sea front to play on the beach or go to the amusements. Most evenings we would go to the theatre and watch a show or take a walk through Peasholme Park. Beautiful, happy days.

Thanks for a great video. It brought back many happy memories for me. I first went to Scarborough in 1963 aged 4, and numerous times over the next 10 years on family holidays. I clearly remember the steamer you went on, The Coronia with its name on its flag as you captured in a few frames. I also remember the miniature Naval Warfare battleship displays in Peaseholme Park which were very exciting to watch as a 4 year old!

I remember the Mere before it silted up, a great place to go away from the hustle and bustle of the sea front for a day. There were rowing boats there, a tea room and we kids looked forward to a trip to treasure island on the pirate ship to dig for pieces of eight. A walk up Olivers Mount blew the cobwebs away. Thanks for posting, this excellent film brings back such happy childhood memories from before the World went mad.

Your film brought back some fantastic memories thank you. I believe the Regal Lady is now a floating WW2 museum and a bar, moored in the same place. The Coronia however is no longer there but I did have the pleasure of taking a trip on each one in my childhood. I understand both ships took part at Dunkirk. Great to see the salt water swimming pool including the big diving board again and The Corner Cafe in the distance. Sadly all gone now but not forgotten. I will always view Scarborough with rose tinted glasses. Thanks again.

I thought that was fabulous, filmed two years before I was born. Scarborough had much more charm back then, as well as many more attractions. The "Paratrooper" ride on the Luna Park as seen at 3:11 was still there 20 years later when I lived there in 1983 and survived a few years after too. the South bay Pool seen at 5:03 was sadly filled in around 2000 which was short sighted as these kind of pools are now very popular again. On a happier note, the Naval Battles have been re introduced and still occur in Peasholm Park. Thanks for a fascinating look at this lovely town back when it was a proper resort. Also the Regal Lady pleasure boat still operates; I went on it not that many years ago.

Only caught this by accident after watching a modern tour of Scarborough. Although I don't remember too much about it, I was there in 1963 aged 6 and again in 1967 aged 10. My dad took our family from Boston, Lincs on many trips around the country in his Bedford Hi-top Dormobile. We slept in the van for a week at a time and had great adventures. I have lived in Northampton for 42 years but have been back to Scarborough a couple of times since. The last time was November 2021 when we stayed in Bay View Apartments and had a great view, being just 200 yards from the castle on the hill.

This is a fascinating insight into the area in the 1960s. It is good to know that some things haven't changed much since then. I visit Scarborough and the surrounding are quite often so I recognized of the places. This is the 1960s equivalent of a RU-vid video.

My grandparents live in Scarborough so I visited every summer holidays from 1955 to 1974. We swam in the South Bay pool every day and always went to Peasholm to watch the naval battles. Thank you for posting this and bringing back many happy memories.

Thank you for posting this. It brought back so fond memories of our many holidays in Scarborough when I was a child. I remember trips on Coronia and the Naval battles at Peasholme Park. I believe the Tree Walk was in operation by 1963 also and you can catch a glimpse of the Pagoda at 7:12. Other memories include whiling away rainy days in Jimmy Corrigans amusement arcade and Fish and Chips at Bamfords which is now back in family ownership!

Nice views of ducks in the sixties. We used to hang round those shallow pools and feed bread to them. Of course today it would be done digitally!

Meanwhile, there was me on the other side of the globe, in my final year of secondary school. The quality of the film means it's likely to be 16mm? Kudos to the photographer!

Many thanks for your comments, the early cine dating back to the 1930s was filmed on 9mm, from the 1950s it was mainly 16mm and I also have some slightly later around the 1980s filmed on 8mm. The 16mm is better quality.
