This might even be the first Mcdonalds commercial as well. Long before Mcdonalds land. Ronald is played by weather man Willard Scott. Dig his magic tray and cup nose. McDonalds commercial 1963 Ronald McDonald / Willard Scott USA
Ronald can’t stay on the road for so long. Imagine that the white Volkswagen Bug backing up is going to hit Ronald straight forward, but I’m pretty sure that the person who drove the Bug didn’t notice there was a commercial being shot at so he probably went over it.
This version of Ronald is like a real-life Krusty. You can imagine him lighting up a cigarette and muttering under his breath as soon as the camera stops.
BREAKING: Willard Scott has passed away at the age of 87. Beyond his time as a weatherman, he probably was best known as the very first Ronald McDonald. That's probably a little known fact that that very weatherman played such a role for the fast food chain which was history for Mickey D's.
@@jwash3rd It was beef tallow. All about convenience since a restaurant had an unlimited supply of that. And yeah, the 70's fries were much better (60's was a bit before my time).
Ah, the good old days... Even our commercials were so much more carefully crafted, edifying, intelligent and mature than the mindless drivel we're subject to today.
The original costume for Ronald would be the perfect appearance for a slasher villain. I would love to see a clown slasher villain but in Ronald's old outfit from Willard Scott.
Did Willard Scott invent Ronald McDonald? He claimed that he created the character, the franchise has always insisted that it was their idea. Guess we'll never know.
Unfortunately, I was there and got a free hamburger once from that guy at the Tacoma Park, Maryland McDonalds. He was less scary as Bozo the Clown. I figured out one day it was the same guy. Then he became the weatherman.
