AC Cobra I would think…if not in 64 by 67…0 to 100 and back to zero was a standing record for production cars until Porsche 911 and matched it about 32=years later. Ford thunder and lightning…GT 40’s…Boss 429’s…. Daytonas…. Just the BEST
You roll this out anywhere, and not a single person would pay a second glance at any newer car...this is style, baby....what they lost in 1973, never to return......style
The FE-427, the most versatile engine in the '60s. From LeMans to Road track Racing, to nascar, to drag racing. And these Thunderbolts could crack 9 seconds in the quarter mile.
I watched a Thunderbolt video, a interview of a well known driver mentioned how hard this beast was to control. Talked about bracing against the door waiting for all hell to break loose. Certainly a car that did not want to be tamed.
@@joelanovara5808 Excellent. It would take some serious gonads to drive a car like this. Watched a mini doc on top fuel. The crew chief, "I wouldn't get out of an electric chair to drive this". Not for the faint of heart
I thought there was something wrong with my engine until I listened to this one. I adjusted the valves over and over 5 times. Still rattles like hell. Must be okay.
@@joelanovara5808I had to listen to the engine again. These engines really rattle. You can hear my engine running on utube at : 427 FE with a new set of valve springs. I took the engine apart for the second time because I was worried about the noise. But everything is fine.
The original is the best by far. I saved a bastard yesterday. It was pretty and went fast, but yours win hands down. A friend of my uncle was killed trying to avoid deer down here in south Texas in a Fairlane in the oil field in 64. He hit a low curb going about 100.
@@dannycalley7777 NOT in a Fairlane Thunderbolt. Full size Fords, yes. JJ dumped Chevy after 1963 because of constant engine failures. No such problems with the Fords.
I think, for what it was, a 1964 falcon sprint. 289/4speed/377 rear gear. High 12s in 1/4 mile, was the quickest I ever owned. Had a lot faster cars, but that little black sucker, factory stock would run with anything out there that was comparable.
Thanks, remember well ( I was Junior in HS, etc.) …. Anyways, seen a Ford **4SPEED again, in 1967, buying a “66 GALAXIE 500 XL/352/4 BBL/ Dual Exh/Burgandy”….a few improvements helped( brakes, tires/ Shocks).. odd that a lot if EV s ( Tesla plaid, Pininfarina) today are much faster, br@king, Cornering incomparable better.
Have to agree with Pete, engine sounds like crap, more than a valve adjustment and my guess cam is not a Hi Riser, but hard to tell in the poor state of tune.
THE FORD THUNDERBOLT LAID WASTE TO THE HEMI'S. THEY WERE 11-SECOND FLAT CARS AND THE HEMI WAS HAVING TROUBLE BREAKING OUT OF THE 12'S. THEN FORD PERSONALLY CAMPAIGN 11 WHITE AUTOMATIC THUNDERBOLTS ACROSS THE COUNTRY COAST TO COAST. FORD RACED THEM IN MANY OTHER CLASSES INCLUDING THE A/FX THEY WERE INTENDED FOR. THE THUNDERBOLTS FORD PERSONAL RACED. WENT DEEP INTO THE 10-SECOND ZONE WITH 9 SECOND CAPABILITY. THEY MADE THE HEMI LOOK SO BAD, THAT CHRYSLER PROTESTED THE FORD THUNDERBOLT AND CLAIMED THEY DIDN'T COME DIRECTLY OFF THE ASSEMBLY LINE. BECAUSE THEY WAS SENT TO HOLMAN & MOODY WHO INSTALLED THE DEARBORN TUBING FOR THE FRONT CHASSIS TO SUPPORT THE MIGHTY 427 HIGH RISER. THEN THE NHRA REFACTORED THE 427 HIGHRISER AT 550 HORSEPOWER AND OUTLAWED THE CAR. THEN THE NHRA RELEASED A STATEMENT TO THE PUBLIC WHICH SAID "WHAT WE DO NOT WANT IS A ONE WINNER, AND THIS IS WHAT FORD IS EASILY CAPABLE OF DOING." CHRYSLER WAS THE CRY BABY😢 AND HAD THE THUNDERBOLTS BANNED FROM RACING, THE SAME WAY THEY WERE CRY BABIES IN NASCAR AND HAD THE 427 SINGLE OVERHEAD CAM ENGINE BANNED. MY GOOD MAN LEARN YOUR HISTORY BEFORE BEING BRAINWASHED. THE 427 SOHC IN TOP FUEL WIPED THE STREETS WITH THE HEMI. THE MERCURY COMET TUBE CHASSIS FLIP FLOP FUNNY CARS WERE VIRTUALLY UNBEATABLE AND BEAT DOWN ON THE HEMIS REAL BAD. A 427 SOHC POWERED MICKEY THOMPSON MUSTANG WAS LITERALLY UNBEATABLE. THE HEMIS COULDN'T TOUCH IT. GAS RHONDA ANOTHER 427 SOHC POWERED MUSTANG BEATDOWN ON THE HEMI'S TOO. SORRY TO BURST YOUR BUBBLE.
Not true at all. Not only could the T bolts match the Mopars, Ford took the Super Stock manufacturers title and Gas Ronda took top Stock honors for the year with the Thunderbolt.
@@chadkent1241 CHRYSLER ALSO PROTESTED THE 427 HIGH RISER IN NASCAR AFTER THEY HAD IT BANNED FROM A/FX. THEY CLAIMED THE TEAR DROP HOOD WAS NOT ORIGINAL TO THE CAR. WHICH FORD USED TO CLEAR THE HIGH RISER HEADS. SO FORD HAD TO USE THE MEDIUM RISER WHICH CLEARED THE STOCK HOOD. THAT IS NONE SENSE AND NOTHING MORE THAN CHEATING.
