Gary Grimes of 1964...The Tribute lost his battle with brain cancer on December 13, 2010. Here is the only "official" statement by the "1964" family. Gary was loved millions over his 27 years performing as Paul McCartney in 1964...The Tribute.
I have been asked to input some info about myself and the slideshow. My name is Steven Gardner, I have been "1964"s photographer/ graphics artist / press agent since about 2005. I am a Beatle afficionado to the extreme. But most importantly, I am a friend to Gary and 1964.
This slideshow was made using only the pictures during my time with 1964.
Note:
There is a pic in here of Gary (10th) with yellow spotlights around him, I hold the frame there for two reasons...1) because I want the lyric line to finish, but more importantly it was the very first picture Gary ever saw from me, and from there my relationship with him, the band and the entire 1964 family began.
Thank you Gary, for all the opportunities, fun, and dragging me into your world :), but most importantly for your friendship.
So long my friend, I will miss you.

Great tribute to a great singer and musician..i've enjoyed seeing 1964 numerous times since the summer of '93 and of course was always overwhelmed at their performance. Saw them last summer and was disappointed Gary wasn't there...didn't realize the seriousness of his illness. RIP Mr. Grimes.

I've had the pleasure of seeing 1964 The Tribute five or six times, and every time they were fantastic. My dad (a huge Beatles fan and of the age to remember them from their beginnings) and I were even fortunate enough to be at the 40th Anniversary concert at Red Rocks. He says that was one of his best memories in life. I had met all the guys after a show and Gary's personality truely shone both on and off stage. My sincere thanks to everyone involved in 1964. You guys are making people's lives better by doing what you do. Gary will be missed....

This made me cry; Gary was a sweet, talented guy; he died of the same glioblastoma brain cancer that my husband Robert died from on Oct 9, 2007. Gary asked me what to do when he found out he had this same thing; I told him - hug your family a lot...two great guys who are soaring the Universe...

I saw them a few times in the early 2000s. I emailed Gary to tell him how much I enjoyed the show. To my surprise he replied! He was very appreciative and even send me a free CD of his solo work. I was amazed when I learned he had to learn to play bass left handed. Incredible.

I saw 1964 a few years ago and was absolutely blown away. The experience was so real it drove me to tears. I spoke with Mark after the show and he told me that Gary was right-handed and had taught himself how to play left-handed. Being a guitarist myself I can't even imagine a task like that! I'm so sorry to hear this news.... My thoughts are with him and his family.

I saw 1964 in Vancouver in about 1987. What a great show they put on! A unique thing about them as far as Beatles tribute bands go is that they would also play the more obscure tracks like "And Your Bird Can Sing" and nail them perfectly. Also when Gary first started, he played right handed but to get the more authentic look, he taught himself to play left handed. What a feat!

I first saw 1964 at Red Rocks last year, it was my first concert ever. What a perfect band to see and a perfect guy Gary Grimes was. He was very talented, and was an amazing Paul. He really made it see mas if he was Paul and we were at a Beatles concert. Who could ask for more?He will be missed and will never be forgotten.

This is terrible news. To his family just let me say that I saw Gary in concert as "Paul" several times. He brought great joy to all Beatle fans who were luck enough to see him and the rest of 1964 in concert. He will be missed by more people than you can ever imagine. God bless all of you.

Rest in peace, Gary. May God bless his soul and help to comfort all those that mourn his passing. I've seen and met Gary over the past nine years that the band has played in RI. He was a wonderful person first, and a wonderful entertainer. I'll miss him, too.

I met Gary Grimes a couple of times in the 1990s as 1964 did make some appearances in Chatham, Ontario. All of the guys were great. I was given a CD after one show and I do have a picture of them live onstage. R.I.P. Gary Grimes..........

Such a shock. I used to see 1964 in Liverpool, at International Beatle Week where they used to play regularly, then had a couple of years' break and returned. Always a joy to watch, one of the best booted and suited tribute bands and really nice guys. I hope he didn't suffer. A great tribute - thank you, and rest in peace Gary. My thoughts are with his family at this very sad time.

My wife and I saw 1964 in 2008 or 2009. They were in excellent form and literally had the house rocking. It seemed everyone was singing along, standing, dancing and having about the best time EVER! Gary made the show. The others were great, but there was "something" about Gary and his Paul McCartney. The impish grin and twinkle in his eyes. I so wanted friends to be able to see the group intact with him in it, but it shall not be. Sigh!

I loved 1964, especially when Jimmy Pou was with them as George. The group was as close to seeing the real Beatles as our 1969 Class got to seeing the real thing. Later several did see Paul McCartney. Sympathy for all family and loved ones.

I did not realize that Gary Grimes had passed away. the last time I saw the band heare in MI was at the Jackson Community College show ca. April, 2010. I met him briefly a few times when 1964 used to greet the audience after the shows. I am sorry, belatedly, to his family and friends. My heart goes out to them and the band. He was a stellar performer and a nice guy.
