Oh man!! What a pretty car!! As a kid our neighbors drove a late 60's Volvo 122 Canadian Wagon which had virtually the same 1800cc inline four cylinder engine routed through a four speed box to the rear wheels. It was a lovely car and faithfully took their two sons and me to hockey practice every winter. I've loved these P1800's since I was little from watching The Saint, and even the later shooting brake P1800ES models were a fine looking car! I think for collecting you can still find these in reasonable supply and parts seem attainable as well. Sadly, I have a prosthetic lower leg on my right and have to resort to automatic cars unless I take apart and modify the manual transmission, which always looks ugly. A nice late example of the P1800ES with an Automatic would look just fine in my driveway, dark metallic pearl navy blue with a brown leather interior and the "Prancing Moose" shield on the front fenders, now if only my bank account were as rich as my imagination! I think the later E and ES had automatic versions and the 1800 series in general is still "affordable" for good examples, probably $15 to 20 K, they did import quite a few to North America but they are kind of rare now . Had heard a story about the 1800 cc engine used in this and several other Volvos originally being a boat engine !
@@thecarsofpalmsprings I'd heard the same but never pursued whether it was fact or not. I can see it being used as a marine engine, long life, good torque all the things you want in an engine for any purpose. I think Volvo and to a degree Saab (99's and up) were overlooked as far as their engines went but both companies had amazing tech stuffed into their vehicles, especially from about 1978 through to 1990. Great engines and drivetrains in great cars!
