Our 1965-66 season review is nearing an end as spring turns to summer, and in this final week tribute to that special season, we now take a quick two day look at the 'escapist' family-fantasy comedies on the networks. The networks were moving in this more fantasy direction by the mid-1960s, and these series were very successful, particularly in the syndication after-market. We looked back at Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie earlier this spring (Gilligan's Island will be highlighted tomorrow), and today we focus on the macabre family shows of The Addams Family (on ABC) and The Munsters (on CBS).
Both series had very similar themes and original two season network broadcast runs. Both filmed in black and white (which for these two macabre series seems very natural and fitting) and both ran on the networks for almost the exact same amount of time (quite ironic): for The Addams Family, it premiered on September 18, 1964 and for The Munsters, it premiered later that week on September 24, 1964. The final episode of The Addams Family aired on April 8, 1966, and about a month later, The Munsters aired its last episode on May 12, 1966. Both series ran in reruns through the summer of 1966, with The Addams Family airing for the final time on ABC's primetime lineup on September 2, 1966, and six days later, The Munsters airing on CBS' primetime lineup for the final time on September 8, 1966.
This clip representing The Addams Family tribute is from the talk show "Geraldo", and aired on November 2, 1992, just after the Addams Family theatrical movie was released to movie theaters in 1991. Lisa Loring (Wednesday Addams) and the late Ken Weatherwax (Pugsley Addams) who passed away on December 7, 2014, are featured in this reunion clip. Also on the panel that day were Paul Peterson (The Donna Reed Show), the late Dana Plato (Different Strokes), and Jay North (Dennis the Menace).
A video clip representing The Munsters was loaded for viewing as well, but ran into some copyright challenges (the Munsters show was a Universal production, and NBC has some form of copyright limitation on that series that we're working on resolving if possible!) In the meantime, we hope everyone enjoys this lovely reunion clip for the younger actors of The Addams Family so may years after the show ended production.
This short video clip is presented here on RU-vid for the entertainment and informational value of the viewer, and no copyright infringement is intended.

. REALLY fun to see now, especially given the fact that Ken Weatherwax died WAY too early, back at the end of 2014 (age 59, heart attack). Thank you VERY much for posting this !! .

"None of the castings or auditions I went to were successful because I was type-cast. "You're a great actor- but unfortunately, you'll always be Pugsly." they'd all tell me. The bastards." "That must have been very hard for you" "Not really- because I had no interest in acting any more after the Addams family".

Nice to see the late Dana Plato . Lisa was also Cricket on "As The World Turns". That is sad the movie producers did not give them or the other former cast members cameos, that would have Bern fun to see.

Lisa Loring reminded me of Sharon Tate. I think they kind of look alike.

Title is a bit misleading. This video is from the early to mid 90s. This is NOT a 50th anniversary tribute, maybe a 30th. But thx for posting and yes, Lisa is easy on the eyes ;)

Thank you for the feedback... what we're doing here on this channel is sort of a blog that walks us through marking the 50th anniversary of a given television season... 1965-66, 1966-67 and so forth. Then we look within our archives for combinations of footage from the series, theme song/opening title credits, interviews and so forth of the shows and casts that have taken place over the years. In many cases, after fifty years, many of the cast have passed away, so our tributes are not 2015, or 2018 based... they are simply archives that allow us to mark the 50th anniversary of the television season in question. Indeed, a bit misleading, and others have mentioned this to us as well. We just couldn't find a better title to use as a 'theme' to help tie-together the flow of videos we've assembled. We hope people are enjoying these videos just the same, and in time, we may well end up changing the titles away from '50th Anniversary' tributes. Thanks again for the feedback. Best regards, Television Vanguard staff

Hi! Is there any chance of seeing more from this particular Geraldo episode that the Lisa and Ken clip originates from? If you have it, I'd love to see any material with Dana Plato, who's on the panel here; I've been hunting for this particular episode, among others, and haven't found anything from it anywhere but here.

Thank you for watching and thank you for your questions. Yes, we have the full episode of this interview with Lisa and Ken. Lisa had a pretty tough life after Adams Family, and she goes into more details about her life earlier in the program. We will definitely post more of this interview at some point... it is just a bit 'rough' viewing in the sense that the subject matter is sad, but we'll try to include it... we think the world of Lisa. Regarding Dana, we will definitely be posting her interview at some point down the road as well... another sad story of a young Hollywood actor/actress struggling into adulthood. RIP Dana (and Ken). We will definitely revisit this episode and interviews at some point as we work them into our schedule. Thanks again for watching and for your comments. Best regards, Television Vanguard

@@TelevisionVanguard Thank you so much for the reply!! I wasn't born when things like this were on the air, so I greatly appreciate channels like yours keeping these rare gems in circulation. It's unfortunate how Hollywood has treated these talented stars; I didn't know too much about Lisa or Ken going into this, hearing from them was incredibly interesting! I've been a fan of Dana's for quite a while, looking forward to seeing more with her from this show whenever you decide to upload it; thanks again!!

@@MrColeslaw You are welcome. We'll try to get more of both interviews with the actresses up on the site in good time... the key is in 'programming' them into the flow of the channel... will try for a pre-summer or late summer 'time slot' in the new few months. Thanks again. - staff
