Sweet truck! I have had my 59 for over 40 years. Still drive it every week and it will still throw mud. I'm not sure about the bed I've never heard that explanation before but could be. FYI on emergency brake, when you set it, don't just yank out on the lever you'll break the plastic T handle. Mash the pedal down as hard as you can and then pull the lever out to set it. Neat old truck I couldn't live without mine. Thanks for sharing it with us.
grew up with a 68 f250 took many many bull calves to sales barn with it even pulled chopper boxes & drove to church on sundays years before i had a drivers licence. when it had a miss it was a fouled spark plug and it never had working brakes. had those hard to find 16.5 tires with split rims. our ih grain truck was missing the shifter boot and i remember choking on the dust inside the cab on gravel roads. we stuffed gunny sacks down in there to keep grasshoppers from getting in. the '70's & 80's it never rained at all 3-4 months straight & no humidity. they never salted roads back then so nothing rusted
That exhaust leak is properly corrected by planing the exhaust manifold and head mating surfaces. Then apply a graphite grease to both surfaces and then assemble the manifold onto the head, torque to specs, run for 10 hours, then retorque to specs. Most engine rebuilders put gaskets on FE exhaust manifolds, which is incorrect and will cause them to quickly start to leak. Do it the way FoMoCo recommends in the shop manual and the leaks will be eliminated/prevented.
I concur, and I ended up fixing the leak, but with a remflex gasket. I may only get a week max at home so it was a cheap short term fix that will hold up for awhile
That bed is much older than the truck the emblem that is missing is a twin i-beam emblem as well as You're 250 which goes up on the up on the cowling well, maybe not. The 4x4s may have been different than the two-wheel drives. My son has his 65 f250 two-wheel drive sitting in my garage with the engine out of it. He loves his 65 though he wanted one when he was 14. We bought it for him when he was 16 and it's still here and he is 33 years old now My son and his family leaving an apartment building and have no place to work on vehicles. That's why his truck is here at least for a couple more months
@christinawiseman-gc9jh the best is most likely about 3 years older than the truck. This truck being a 4 wheel doesn't have the twin I beam suspension and instead says 250.
Brandon, backflush the heater core to get the years of mud out of it. You will be amazed at the difference in heat. A friends 98 Cherokee had no heat for years, we back flushed it forward flushed it, blew it out with air, flushed it again, and now it cooks him out of the truck.
Also, make sure the thermostat is the correct temperature type, and that it opens and closes properly. This can be determined by placing it in a regulated temperature pot of water on the stove. Next, for very cold and humid weather, install a radiator shutter to block off part of the radiator fins from moving ultra-cold air past them. This can be something as simple as a piece of stiff cardboard or 1/8" cardboard or plywood.
I believe the blink marker lights button temporarily cuts power to the clearance and running lights on the truck as a way of thanking other drivers for example if they let you move over on the highway.
That’s what I’ve always been told it’s for, both of our tractor trailers have a similar button up on the dash to wink the running lights to thank another truck for letting you in.
@@gabrielmiller8814 wish I could! I'm deployed currently but you can rest at ease that it's tucked away snug as a bug in the garage while I'm gone. It's got fresh tires on it now, but the manifold gasket leak still needs addressed. Otherwise, it runs as good as it ever has
I have a '62 f 360(one Ton). Had the same box.. Of course now it has a 71 box on it due to the original got badly rusted out and damaged over the years and the right side fell off... We live where road salt mixed with sand in the winter is used on hi-ways...
I was told my great grandfather had a 60, which was a similar body style to this one. But he worked for the county and hauled salt in the winter time. He got a new pickup by 67 because the old one had rusted out so bad.
@@reeseholler92 ya. Salt tends to rust metal... lol... I live where we have winter, and Chinooks... Daily drivers on winter roads tend to rust out... If people don't get undercoat put on when vehicle is new it speeds up that process...
