This car is remarkable in that it has a rear seat air conditioning system. Not just rear vents but a separate air handler located in the trunk. A stunning car.

As a little kid I can't help remembering those unique interior door handles that resembled door levers! later in life i learned that these cars were more expensive than the standard Lincoln or Devilles of that time! They never outsold Cadillac or Lincoln which makes them fewer and a collectors bargain!

Incomparable Imperial was the add slogan for the 1964-67 Imperials. The only car my dad ever brought, when they shut down the Imperial division after 1975 he purchased Chrysler New Yorkers. Growing up in Houston that $456 for the rear A/C option was money well spent. Really cooled the car down fast. Nice original there.

I think 1965 had white horizontal lines on the headlight glass covers and 1966 has 2 gold bands around the outer edges of the glass covers.

Price tag reflected same.. in the 40s. The electric windows were pneumatic fluid pistons in each individual door not electric.. saw one in salvage yard once.. this car pretty much glamorous for 60s. Glad they did away with push button transmission too. Back then folks chose clutch just to be more in touch with the road..

i thought the lenses that went over the headlights had white stripes on them for 65, and 66 had the gold ring. but regardless of what lenses belong where, i think these ones fit the car as a whole a lot better...

I never realized Gold anodizing was a factory option on these cars. If so it's so unusual it looks aftermarket. The formal smaller rear window and rear A/c was really nice. I think one of the reasons Chrysler could not keep up with Cadillac is on all of these cars, there was way too much room in the rear wheel wells. It just didn't look right. They should have used a wider axle or wider wheels to fill in that void.
@AutoAppraise

+johnnyohness It probably was not a factory option- but may have been done to represent this car on display at National Auto Show for the Big Man....

For all the kids out there who are confused about all the Brand Rage coming from our team of experts, they are technically right. But even in the day, the buying public could see quite clearly that other than the dash and trim and some curved side glass, buying an Imperial was just a really expensive way to buy a New Yorker. All the mechanicals, front to back, right down to the interior door handles are identical. Sure, the Imperial retained the full frame, but this was a throw back. Chrysler (the company whose executives decided the fate of the Imperial brand) had started to produce full size unit-body Chryslers in 1960. The Imperial was, from an inelligent consumer's p.o.v., simply too expensive and too dated. And even the very cool Elwood Engle styling was stale thanks to it being so similar to his own work at Lincoln 5 years earlier. Today this would be called a Parts Bin car. Way cooler parts from those 1960s bins, but nothing you couldn't have got for half the price back in the day on the New Yorker. Chrysler Executives decided when to pull the plug. The end Imperial was not due to an economically distict entity meeting it's demise due to market conditions, but rather it was a failed attempt by Chrysler Marketing (also directed by Chrysler executives) to dress up a parts bin car and charge lots of money. The well-to-do potential buyers saw through it, funny that those rich potential cusomers were also prudent and careful with how they aquired their status symbols, eh? So, it is entirely excusable to "mistakenly" call the Imperial a Chrysler. And given that Chryslers are all very desirable and manly classics today, its not even a slur to call an Imperial a Chrysler Imperial. I love them no mater what you call them.

There's a baby-blue 1965 Imperial Crown four-door hardtop for sale about 6 miles south of me. They want $5,000 for it. It's nice, but nowhere near this nice. I just wonder if that car, their car, the prenominate baby-blue 1965 Imperial Crown four-door hardtop, is actually WORTH $5,000. Is it worth more or less, that's what I want to know. The sellers, they have a "for sale" placard in the windshield, that says the price, but also the fact that, according to them, it has a 460 V8, which Chrysler never produced. It should have a 413....so I'm beginning to think that they just don't know what they have.
@patrickwayne3701
@patrickwayne3701 5 лет назад
Obviously they have not done proper research to learn there was never a 460 cubic inch displacement offered by Chrysler Corp. Their car could be a bargain depending upon all the factors covered in this video. This appraiser has done a decent job considering he's not steeped in Mopar history. Those who get critical right away cause a lot of reactions in allot of different ways. Just remember never to behave in ways you wouldn't appreciate being treated yourself.
@thisbandreallystix
@thisbandreallystix 2 года назад
Correction: It's really more of a powder blue than a baby blue. That, and it has either a white vinyl roof or its roof is merely painted white. Either way, it has a white roof-so it's white over powder blue. It should have a 413, though. Unless someone swapped it out, but if they did, wouldn't they have used a 440 or some other similar MOPAR motor, instead of a 460, which, if true, is a FoMoCo powerplant?

It's not technically a Chrysler - It doesn't say Chrysler any where on it - it is an Imperial Lebaron - all Lebarons unless an extremely rare 2 door special order build Lebaron are 4 doors and they all have small back windows. What you call crows feet is actually called lacquer checking and I don't really have any idea what the "gathering " problem is - maybe stained paint ? Never heard the term gathering unless you are talking about metallic paint metal slumping as it is drying or something like that. Chrysler built New Yorkers and Imperial built Lebarons, Crowns etc.

Now that we have established this beautiful car as a 1965 Chrysler Imperial LeBaron, I have some gripes to gripe about... All large, luxury sedans are limousines. There are limousines and "stretch" limousines. The LeBaron had a smaller backlight (window) to give it a more formal look over the Crown models. Vinyl tops were extra cost options on LeBarons and they wear them well. But some noodlehead ruined this car with those pimpmobile style gold landau bars. And all that other crappy gold crap cheapens the image of this car. This is Chrysler's flag-ship, not a Plymouth Sport Fury. or DeSoto Adventurer from the late 50s. The color is gorgeous but all that other gold crap gives it a pimp look.

This car is correctly identified as Chrysler Imperial LeBaron. While it is true that from 1955 to 1975, these top-end Chryslers were referred to and DMV registered only as "Imperial", they ARE STILL a Chrysler no matter what the self proclaimed "purists" have to say. Show Walter P. some respect for the fine cars that have borne his name since 1926. The use of Imperial solely in those 20 years from 1955 was nothing more than a marketing ploy to hopefully boost these great car's credibility as equal to Cadillac and Lincoln. So all you whiners get over it. A Chrysler Imperial she is, was and will always be

Hyundai is trying the same thing with the Genesis. As of the 2017 model year, they are referred to as Genesis. I respect their efforts to spin off this car into a luxury marque. I won't go into the hx of Chrysler Imperial being just Imperial. You did a fine job. "Purists" want respect, as I'm sure of the owners of a 2017+ Genesis. I don't look at these purists as whiny people. Jason Phillips made the same mistake many people do. No one is rushing out to set up a gallows for him, just making a correction of the marque. As you said yourself, from 1955-1975, Imperial will be regarded as a separate marque.
