1965 Pontiac GTO Tiger Gold 389 4-Speed Muscle Car Of The Week Video Episode 214
The GTO was in it’s second year in ‘65, and Pontiac was hard at work perpetuating the mystique of what has been called the first Muscle Car. They called it a “Quick Wide-Track Tiger”, and the performance potential was strong. This 389 4-speed car is from the Brothers Collection.

I had a 1966 GTO right out of high school. It was Barrier Blue, with black interior, and the 389 tri power engine, I also had the close ratio 4 speed. Oh yes I can't forget the 433 rear end. I had that car till in went in the service in 1968. Only had that car a couple of short years, but the memories will last me a lifetime. I will always love my GTO and I think of her often.

My grandma and her friends all raced at the local track, to our surprise one day she pulled in the driveway with a 66 goat that was white with the black vinyl roof and black interior, and a 4 speed 389 tri-power. She drove that car the way it was meant to be driven. Nothing more amazing to a 5 yr old than granny lighting up first and second gear from a stoplight.

This video is..."GREEEAAATTTT!" Been out for almost 3 years? How did I miss it? 65s are one of my favorite Goats, 'specially with the trips and a 4 speed. I drove one almost exactly like it, (same paint, black interior), on the street every day, from late 70s to late 80s. Lots of fun and good times. Great car. Thanks for the memories. :)

The 1965 Pontiac GTO is my all time favorite muscle car. Too bad that they didn't have a 421 V8 option, although upgrading to this would not have been difficult. I recently met a guy who had a 1966 GTO project car that he had rebuilt from the ground up. It was a gorgeous dark metallic green with a black interior, 4-speed trans, 3:90 posi rear gear, and the dual exhaust tips on both rear sides of the car. It was a great looker, especially under the hood with its super-clean 3x2 bbl. carb setup. Had me reaching for my checkbook until my wife said, "Down, boy. We don't need it and it's too expensive." She was right, of course, but, man, whatta car!

My dad bought a new '65 GTO, same color as the one in this clip but it had a black textured top and an automatic transmission. He complained about it because, when it rained, he couldn't get traction on the hills in San Francisco. I remember well how that car could get up and move!

In early 1965 I was 8, my dad came driving up the street in a brand new Turquoise blue GTO with the 4 speed. It was basically the stripped model, no a/c, no power brakes or steering! It had the single 4 barrel carb. It came stock with chrome valve covers, never forget that. In 1969 he traded it in to the same PONTIAC dealer he bought it from for a new BONNEVILLE....crazy right?......

My first was a 1965 GTO with no motor or transmission that my dad gave me as a project. Cost him $100 in 1973. Went to auto shop at school and some guy had a 421HO engine out of a 2+2 so i purchased it for $40 and then I found a BW-T10 transmission with a Hurst Shifter. My dad helped me rebuild everything and I had a muscle car. Wish I still had it today.

I had the 66 Tiger Gold power convertible, 389, 4barrel, posi traction, all black interior., huge trunk, 4 speed Hurst, and the heaviest imitation wire wheel hub caps ever made. I can't believe no one every stole them. Probably, most people thought they were real wire wheels. It was a very pretty old school supercar.. But I thought it was Martinqe Bronze, who knew. Also only had it 2 years , had to sell to go back to college.

He drove that car for 30 years! It's still here in the same county sitting I a guys shop patiently waiting for the restoration work she sorely needs! That original 389 that was bored, balanced is still a screamer with probably 150, 000 more miles on it! Glad it still around and out of the weather, maybe one day she will get rebuilt!

Tiger Gold (and all its variants through the years) was always my most favorite color for all these great 60s cars --- especially if they were either 2-dr Hardtops or Convertibles --- not just from GM, but Ford, Chrysler and AMC all had their variants of that "soft brown/gold' color. I remember this color from Car Craft Magazine -- it was on their "project" car which was a 1966 Tiger Gold GTO (I think it had white interior). They put a huge "tiger's tail" coming from the trunk. In 1965, Car Craft put together one of their first "project" cars -- a very similarly colored 1965 Barracuda fastback with a 426 Hemi underneath that back glass --- it was called (appropriately), *_Hemi Under Glass._*

The '65s just don't sit 'right' wearing the '67 shoes, a set of Rally Ones over some factory heavy duty red drums gives a nice mean look. A '67 GTO with ultra-rare disc-brake Rally Ones is at the top of my list of "Nice" (I've seen only one pair of those wheels!)

The 64 was the best in my opinion. I knew a guy who owned one and it was a sweet ride. The GTO was quicker of of the line than most all the others it competed with. The 389 had low end torque and the ability to rev high. I also dated a girl whose dad had a Royal Bobcat GTO , look it up. Fast and loud.

I think the 65 is my favorite year for the GTO. The stacked headlights and the taillights running the width of the car. Throw in that 4 speed and we have a winner! Maybe swap out the crankshaft to bump it up to a 421. Not that there is anything wrong the 389.

I'm a GTO owner myself...a 1969 convertible...but my favorite (okay...LEAST favorite) part about GTOs is going to car shows and seeing all the old farts who have tiger tails hanging out from the back of the trunk, or maybe have an entire stuffed animal tiger sitting in the front seat of their GTO. It's the corniest thing imaginable aside from those crying kid dolls that lean up against the car.

@livewire2759
@livewire2759 7 лет назад
Yeah, I see it a lot on old trucks (I live in farm country so there's lots of them around). People just plug off the pcv valve vacuum hose and plug the vent on the other side after doing other repairs because they don't know how the system is supposed to work. If they're lucky, it blows the dipstick out of the tube. If they're not lucky or they try to make the dipstick stay in, they end up blowing out gaskets. Sometimes they plug the vent side only and the vacuum through the pcv valve actually sucks the gaskets in!
