1965 Washington Quarter: Here's What You Should Know 

After keeping any coin that felt, looked or tasted off, wrong, odd or weird & just not right, for yrs- im finding I've got a fair amount of 65-69 quarters on wrong planchets. That's about all I'm sure of as I am brand new to this hobby & in the process of learning. A couple look to have silver rims, and some are certainly on some meant for other coins bc the nickel cladding is present, yet the planchet metals are either corroded or patina but not Copper patina. I've looked around but haven't found anything on post silver 1960s coin stamped on any incorrect metal for the yr other than silver, but some must exsist. Thanks for the info

I was born in 1965. I have found a couple of ‘65 quarters. I kept just to keep.

I would say in the last 10 years, I have gotten back in my change 4 silver quarters. - The last one I received was about 4 months ago now.The best places to get silver coins are from fast food restaurants. Employees don't have time to go threw the roles while waiting on customers. - That is how I got my last 3 from.

Found a 1969-s in a bag and a 1965 dime the top half is all silver the bottom half copper nickel, so from the side heads up there is a horizontal line in middle with silver on top. I saw it and was like cool a silver dime, then I turned it over and looked at side, also the silver edge is grooved the bottom edge is smooth. Never seen this.

Silver 1965 quarters are very rare, but high grades and errors can bring in good cash.

I got a 1964 in change last year, it sounds different when it hits other change.

Number one rule find a meth area you'll find silver coins in the store change. I got a 1909 wheat penny out of a casino!

yeah baby, save that 90% junk silver...been saving since 1971 when we went off the gold standard and watching myself go broke...but someday when the economy crashes i'm gonna be so rich, and it's gonna happen sometime in the next 1,000 years...you just wait and see

In 1965-1967 they didnt have mintmarks but they still made them in all the mints

I'm gonna start collecting quarters.

The only way these coins end up back in circulation is when a persons coin collection is stolen and the criminal just spends the coins.

They actually made 1965 through 1967 quarters at both mints. They just didn't put mint marks on them, and it's impossible to distinguish them.

The double tail is on the reverse. The Herald, or eagle is on the reverse. Washington's image in profile is the obverse.

I remember back in the late 2000's that the 1964 quarter looked a little odd. Now i know why.

There's another way to tell if a coin is made of silver one time a cashier dropped my change on the counter and as the quarter bounced I noticed it made a higher pitch sound than a quarter would usually make so I suspected that quarter was silver I didn't say anything I just picked it up and put it in my pocket when I went out to the car I looked at the change in my pocket and I had a 1957 silver quarter this was probably 20 years ago I still have that quarter today

i have 3 1965 quarters, all have the copper clad composition with a ring around the edge but one of them also sounds different when hitting other change, i noticed that two of them the face is on the silver side, and one its on the copper side, does that mean anything, it sounds totally different then the other two when you drop it on the table or hit against other change, is it possible other clad compositions other then copper/nickle? and known copper/silver? i need to get them weighed, but ive had many a silver coin, and that sound it make is is unique, and it even looks like it has some silver tarnish on it, while the other two are mostly shiny, it shouldnt sound so different if its clad copper /nickle like the other two right?

When silver shot up to $40 in 2012, people combed through most of our coinage and pulled out the pre 65 quarters and dimes. They are very rare to find now, but back when I was a kid and silver was 2 or $3 an ounce, silver coins weren't special. I doubt you'll find much now.

I have been collecting and holding the 1965's thru 1970 for over 30 years now.

I recently came across a 1964-D Dime in uncirculated condition in my change. It is now put away and never to be used again Also came across a Series 1950 5$ bill as well slightly used.....and a penny from 1945...wheatie. While these have nothing to do with quarters, it shows what circulated coins are around.

Both mints made coins in 1965-1967 but no mint marks were used. They did not make proofs in those years but did make special mint sets.

I often see 1965 quarters still in circulation. I haven't come across any 1964 quarters.

I have 1964 sliver quarter in great shape without a mint mark. Has been in my safe for a few years .

I've collected coins for decades. I have almost all types of US coinage that were minted. Some of which I found in change working at a gas station. I started to collect colonial coins like the Spanish reals.

They are minted at San Francisco, and Denver

Wow, that's great !! I find a lot of quarters that when under a magnifier, have all kinds of different numbers and small figures of all kinds of things . It looks like something was printed all over the different coins I keep . Have you found that to happen on a lot of coins from your pocket ? I have been collecting change for about three years , I started with penny's. I found out it is not as easy as I thought it was .

I have 1964. A lot of 1965, 1966 and 1967. I always think what's the used to keep them if you have nobody that will buy it from you I have 1/2 DOLLARS AND DOLLAR ONES TOO THEY WERE MY UNCLE That passed away.

I very rarely find 1964 or 65 quarters in my change . I think a lot of people have them put away .

I have a lot of silver dimes, nickles, & even some silver Kennedy 1/2 dollars, but it's very hard to find ANY silver quarters.

Oddly i saw perfectly round stone or leaf in the back yard dirt while feeding the animals. Picked it up, a 1965 quarter! Had a bit of green on it as parts of the lamination flaking off. (Bad condition) Had to rinse it to see date. Saved it for when this video would show up. Now i can spend it. (Musta been from prev owners 20 yrs ago.)

I was rifling through an old change jar earlier and found a 1965 quarter but here's the kicker I don't know if it's real because although they were nickel-clad copper; you would assume that if there was enough wear on it to completely remove the nickel to where you're looking at what is essentially a solid copper color quarter, that it would also remove the detail. It did not. You can clearly see all of the feathers on the reverse on the eagle all of the lettering is crisp, on the front side Washington still seems very detailed and the lettering and numbers are crisp. What the hell am I looking at here it should not have this clarity of detail if all of the nickel has worn off because it's solid copper in color. It's the whole reason I came to this video to find out what the hell I'm looking at. In that same change jar I also found a 1927 standing liberty but that one is very highly worn. A 1967 no mint quarter And also a quarter from 1998 that has a bronzy copper appearance to it. A Sacagawea dollar with extra feather detail. Three 1964 no mint Nickels; actually I found quite a few no mint Nickels of different years but the 64s were the most number. Any ideas as if these have any value would be appreciated

The silver coins I have is a 1967 Canadian dime which is either 80% or 50% silver, two silver quarters, and a once ounce, pure silver, Canadian five dollar coin

So a damaged 1964 quarter is worth more melted down than its face value.

I have a 1964 quarter in a bezel ring I carry with me. I got it out of luck from a vending machine at my high school a few years back. I made mistake of cleaning quarter completely, but it’s not defaced.

I have 37 half dollar Silver John Kennedy 1964 coins, and two 1922 one dollar silver, and one 1925 one dollar Silver from my wife's uncle keeping them when there were available in 1964.

I have a 1966 Washington Quarter No mint mark .. My concerns with it are that it appears to be both copper and silver as it looks almost like 2 coins have been joined or it was made that way

I've found some old money.. have always checked all my change. Oldest I've found to this date was a 1935 silver certificate dollar bill. change wise I think is a 1940 nickel.

That's when they stop using real silver is in 1964. I was born in 64 I've collected quite a few of them. I should look through and see.

Another fun fact is that because the spot price of silver is so low, a 1967 quarter in uncirculated condition costs slightly more than any of its silver counterparts from 1960 through 1964. They made lots of '67 quarters but they circulated and weren't hoarded like the silver quarters of the early 60s. They aren't as easy to find in high grades as they used to be.

My brother works at a bank and found 5 silver quarters in the coin machine when rolling them. Traded for regular quarters 🤣

There was a short period where there was 40% silver (1965-70/75) in quarters, dimes, halves, and dollar coins.

In addition, I have this strange looking old George Washington Quarter that says on the back Indiana 1816.

I saved all the 1965 thru 1972's in one bank for over twenty five years. I need to check them for silver content.

Just found a 1965 GW 25 at Calico canyon looks great like not worn face or back but black colored. From years in weather. No mint mark.

I have a 1965 qtr that has the two-tone edge, but has a ring to it like a silver quarter if I drop it on the table. It also is slightly thicker than other 1965 quarters I've come across, as well as has a stronger strike and a finish/patina more like a silver quarter. Were there possibly any experimental alloys that contained silver used at any point of production? Or could this possibly be from a "Special Mint Set" or something? Thanks for any thoughts!

Man, I walked about a mile and a half to a coin collector/dealer yesterday and my 65 quarter was worth just that, 25 cents. So that means I'm one quarter fool, and three quarters dumb!
