1966-1977 Bronco tailgate install. and tips. Bronco part 12. 

I fought my 74 Bronco tailgate for months until I viewed this video. Instead of washers, I used an aluminum plate behind the latch. If it was too proud, I'd remove and sand a few mm from it. Now the gate opening is flawless. Seeing Barry's procedure brought out the correct problem solver. Thanks Barry for explaining the claw and latch in detail.

That shot of the bed and tailgate really shows how well the paint came out. My guess is the tailgate is relatively flat and it's the quarters that are off but having a tailgate that needs a little shove to close means it'll never rattle. The green is growing on me. For a toy I can live with the green but for a daily driver not so much.

It looks good. Having reassembled a 65 Mustang with aftermarket parts, test fitting and just fitting take a lot of effort. Sometimes a piece for the right side fits better than the left side counter part. You give me insight on approaching these problems.

Doors had some playing to do made some shims.. now im working on tailgate and also was wondering about the last part.. it looks like I also will have to shim it out.. Nice job. When I redid my 64 f100, I ran into the same problem with those 90 degree brackets. Instead of using spacers to move the “catch hole” rearward, I just removed material from the rear edge of the hole and slightly modified the rubber “anti-rattle” stopper plug that goes in the hole directly above the 90 degree bracket. This way the 90 bracket won’t contact the tailgate after shimming. Gotta love aftermarket stuff. Keep up the great content. Really have grown to love that green.

The paint looks awesome. Love the tinted texture. Hopefully the owner can install the rubber stop bumpers at the top of the tailgate to keep that paint looking fresh.

Great Job Barry! the holes right below the welds and above the latches take rubber bumpers, really shows how important it is to make sure panels fit before paint.

I've really enjoyed this series Barry. Nice to know that the Bronco bodies are being repopped. The originals were always prone to rust (being from northern Illinois I have first hand knowledge). Yours won't be nearly as bad as factory. Panel fitment problems are always going to be there. Thanks and we'll see you next time.
