Telecasters will always be the greatest guitars. Slab of wood, bolted on neck, 6 strings, no bullshit headstock, one volume, one tone, 3 pickup selector positions, solid pieces of brass for saddles, etc. It's the most straight forward, no bullshit guitar design.
This looks exactly like the 66 that I owned ! I stupidly stripped it down to bare wood from white , in about 1972 ! The wood grain even looks the same ! I didn't sand it though , just strip and clear coat . When he said the ashtray cover looked off , that made sense , because I put it in the shop , and they lost the cover . So this could be a replacement by the new owner ! I lost it when I had to have money for a move , and pawned it about in 1991 . If this my old axe, I hope it gets played by someone that loves it !
Were these things really so poorly appreciated that you genuinely pawned it back in 1991? I think kids today don't really understand that you could buy a 1959 burst for sensible money probably as late as the late 80's.

Nice dark Brazilian rosewood, but it's a cost-saving thin round laminate AKA a "veneer" board - the fret tangs go into the maple underneath, and I'd be nervous to pull frets off that thing! Wouldn't it be easy to tear a piece out?
Hi Dave this is right up my street , i have a Tele and a Strat that i need to set up, in part 2 could you talk about neck shims , and how to set up the neck angle regarding bolt on necks , I've done trial and error in the past but could really do with some good advice , thanks for all your vids they are appreciated .
Ross Abbott If you have had it since the 70's I have to accept that I never owned it , but the overall look is just uncanny ! I have regretted the loss of mine , and if I could find it I would buy it back in a heartbeat ! I have often wondered where , and with whom it ended up ! This just still has all the details that I remember . Good luck with yours , and I hope Dave set it up to your satisfaction !
What happened to the shim, you put it back? I have about the same shim in my tele and I think it helps playability. Previous owner gooched the pocket I think, hard to tell...but they been chisling in it a bit. So I sanded it flat but, the angle you know...
