The side panels are in and it's time to weld in the firewall. Getting it to fit snugly and correctly can be challenging but important for a good strong final fit.

do not worry about what your welds look like, first I know you are running a flux core wire plus you are going to grind them anyway. Screws are a great idea, I also leveraged the welds themselves with a hammer to move the metal. Great progress on the car and look forward to further update, keep up the good work

Thanks. The welds are getting better as I go. Although all of a sudden yesterday they were horrible until I realized I bumped my wire speed dial.

@@3rdstallgarage I agree, I have been welding for over a year and still find my amperage too low or high or wire speed to fast or too slow or wrong wire gauge. But your final result is all that matters and they look great.. Especially under the carpet as you said LOL..

You are right to worry about the project first... and the camera second. Thanks for showing us your hard work. Things are moving along great it seems.

Great work. Been following for a while now. Like how you're explaining the though process behind each step. We're working on a '66 coupe. Not it too bad shape - needed floors. Cowl is being replaced next summer. 13yr old is doing the welding. I would recommend plug welding with Gas. Not only come out nicer, they're much easier to do.

Thanks for following. Wow, you have a 13 year old doing the welding?? Your son? Daughter? Maybe I should look into gas shielding. I didn’t realize it was easier.

@@3rdstallgarage I understand that flux welding is best for outdoors in the wind where mig gas wont work. The flux set up appears less expensive, but buying the mig set up and my own mig gas tank, BEST decision. Son - started at 12, now 13. Car was started up last month 1st time after 28 years. I'll have to go back and see how you resolved the shock tower alignment.

Betsy’s welds ran at 1.5” generally. If it didn’t work out I erred on the side of more welds are better. The torque boxes require a “step in the toe boards too.

1.5" seems about right. Whose Betsy? Is that like Rosy the riveter?

So is it ok to put firewall on top of flooring I have to replace mine however got stumped when they said that floor goes on top of firewall??
@3rdstallgarage

The factory put the firewall below the flooring. That's very hard to accomplish if you are replaceing the firewall later. You can put the replacement firewall on top of the flooring but you will need to make some relief cuts in it to get it to lay down nicely. It's doable, but just takes a little patience and willingness to try.
