Crazy to go back and look at where I started watching and see it's been 5 years at this point. Watching you widebody the MR2 and the Audi while I was just trying to get a VW beetle to run was really inspiring. Your channel is part of the reason I'm going back to school now for Auto body and why my nova is 8 inches wider and scrapes speed bumps. glad to see you back at it and hoping it lasts!

Hey man, just a couple tips to get even straighter cars! Im a body guy and have worked in resto shops and collision shops. 1: Invest in a quality set of body hammers and dollys. Martin makes a really good set. Make sure you work the dents out as good as possible before you start ok anything else, that way you wont need to pile on thick layers of bodyfill. 2: When filling, focus on spreading tight even coats to make sanding easier and invest in some good blocks! Durabock makes some good sets. Its important to use the block most suitable for the panel you are working on. The longer blocks are best for long flat sections of the car. Make sure to sand in a cross hatch pattern. Use long strokes and even pressure and try to evenly sand the whole surface. Use masking tape to help create your body lines. guide coat can be useful too. Finish blocking your fill with 320. 3: the BEST product for rust prevention is an epoxy primer. Prime everything with this after fill and before anything else. 4: block your epoxy primer with 320 and then spray your high build primer or sprayable polyester like the G2. 5: try to not use a feather edger to sand g2 or high build primers, instead, initially block with 220 using guide coat. This is an important step and power tools will make noticable waves! 6: once you are happy with the shape you have achieved, prime again with urethane primer. This is a last ditch effort in catching any tiny imperfections that you cant see. Block this primer with 320, 600, 800, with guide coat for each grit. 7: prep and paint! This is all personal preference but a good thing to think about for big projects especially restorations is three good coats of clear, then you can wetsand and polish to a glasslike finish without burning through!! Cant wait to see the next project man, love your channel!

You seem to have a good head on your shoulders REALIZING THAT THIS " WAS A LEARNING EXPERIENCE " YOU'RE STILL VERY YOUNG. Your skills will get better with every build, you'll learn tricks of the trade, what to look for when buying a vehicle, which one to buy & not to buy, LIKE I SAID YOUR LEARNING PLUS YOU REALIZE THAT. SHIT DON'T GO AS PLANNED ALL THE TIME BUT " YOU MADE MONEY " NO MATTER HOW SMALL, YOU MADE MONEY. You'll get there, it takes years but you'll get there & the BIGGEST THING IS " YOU HAVE A WIFE THAT SUPPORTS YOU " HUGE WIN, YOU'LL REALIZE THAT WHEN YOU GET OLDER LIKE MY ASS, MINE NEVER DID. I have owned my 66 Mustang fastback since 1975. In 2016 it needed a total rebuild. We picked a well known shop to do the restore. They farmed out the work and it was a total mess....we ended up in court. We then rebuilt the car again our selves. So don't feel to bad....I wasted much more money!!! The only mistake was paying what you did for a 6 cyl car. You did a LOT right. The accident(s) hurt you a bunch.....but that's life. In the end it looked good and you got about what they are going for right now. Good for you looking at this as a life lesson that you can build on!!! thx

I have found a long time ago, that this business will not make you rich, unless you only have the ability to get VERY RARE cars that are all number matching vehicles. Here's the thing though, bringing these cars back from the graveyard is very satisfying! Good luck young man, wishing you all the success you deserve!! This was a really good video.

A regular shops labor per hour is like 50 bucks, a little math shows you have about 10k in labor on this one 😯 thats some hard work!

Love the new format. Making money on old cars is tough. You need to either buy something non-running and with minimum effort/expense get it running and flip it for a small profit or go all out on something collectable with your time being the main expense. You need to make a good margin on a more intensive restoration, if your time would have been better served doing something else for minimum wage you have a huge problem. My old man used to do this as a side deal and he really knew his stuff. I still remember him laughing at a friend of his who was bragging about making double their money back on a build. They worked on the build full time for 3 months, subtracting a minimum wage salary for those 3 months and they wound up making a loss. Luckily for them, they learned a lot doing the restoration, including how to speed up and optimize the process. Sometimes the learning is worth the hit, it can save you a fortune on future builds. Take a look at what old cars have new/aftermarket parts available still. 65 - 70 Mustangs are great cars to build, you can buy almost every single component and panel new/aftermarket. Something like a 65 Plymouth Barracuda is a much bigger/more expensive task. High volume, high demand cars tend to have more parts available for them as well as more flexible markets. Almost no one wants an engine swapped Porsche 911 but an LS/Coyote etc swapped Mustang will find a home pretty easily. Lean on friends and contacts for info on what sells and what to steer clear of. The internet can be deceiving, seeing 2 dozen of a particular car/model for sale could be good or bad, either they are in high demand or, no one wants them so they won't move. Someone in the business will know far better.

I have definitely been left on the side of the road because of points. My advice for future "old car" projects is to get a Pertronix conversion kit to replace the points and condensor. Relatively inexpensive and no more hard starts, no more worries about burned up or corroded points.

Enjoyed the video. I restored and customized a 68 California special. Classic mustangs when neglected are a nightmare to repair. All the little “simple” things add up to a lot of work when it’s all said and done. It’s not like a modern car where every thing fits. There were people at the factories making all the cheap crappy parts fit together nicely. I spent hours on the side window glass on mine and they’re still not perfect. I feel your pain, I’ll never restore a car this old ever again.

I have a 1968 Mustang, replacing the gauge cluster lens made them like new, in short you did the right thing. This upgrade cannot be over emphasized.

64 1/2 was the first year. My brother was working in Detroit and invited me up and we went on a tour of Ford Motor Company and saw the Mustangs on the assembly line, after that I was hooked.

Where you live now looks a lot like where I live. Glad to see you posting content again. I just came back from a military deployment and greatly missed it while I was deployed.

Gotta say, you did amazing. You are good at what you do Man! I want to appoligize to you for running my mouth a few months back! You did what alot of us could not do!

My brother had a 65 similar to this back in high school in 199X. It was a heap not much better than this one started. As soon as I saw the 4 lugs I said out loud, "That's got a 200 hundred straight 6."

I would look into restoring 1970-1974 A-body cars from GM. Pontiac Lemans, Chevy Malibu, etc. A lot of body repair panels are available to include floor repair panels. The aftermarket has a lot of repro parts also. Mustangs cost a lot to repair because they are unibody's. Your next Mustang should be a low volume high performance model like a Boss 302, Mach 1.s Grandes, with high performance engine-transmission-rear end packages. That way you make your money back at the end of the restoration. Happy New Year!! Great to see you making videos again.

Don't beat yourself up about not making a huge amount on the first car! it's a new venture and they usually take a bit of time to learn, which will mean some losses along the way but I honestly thought this is a great start! from the title I was expecting a huge loss. but learn from this and keep working your way up! Hello fellow car enthusiast, I just stumbled across your channel and newly subscriber, as an old guy with a 65 Mustang coupe I have to tell ya a lot of people think the 65 was the first but actually 1964 1/2 was the first year. Glad to see you again. Wish I had the space to have a shop and do more on my own. I'm a full time mechanic at a Honda dealership up in Canada. It's cold and we have snow so definitely can't work outside for 6 months of the year pretty much. Maybe one day I'll have some property and have a shop. My wife wants me to have one for myself so that's encouraging. One day. My kids are older then yours so that does make it a bit easier but at the same time still busy. Congrats on your baby girl and the new place. Can't wait to see it and what your shop there looks like. Keep it up and can't wait to see the next video!

Metal office binder clips and wooden clothes pins are very helpful for headliner installs.

I actually like the old style linkage type steering. It gives you feedback on the road you're on. You can "feel" the road. As the Mustangs get snapped up, the price goes up. It's still one of the most desirable classic cars, so even taking a rusted hulk to restore makes sense.
