Most viewers probably don't realize that filming your progress for RU-vid, triples the time it takes to complete your work. Setting up cameras and lighting, Editing, Uploading, Adding Video details. You do a great job and we all appreciate your efforts and content! Cheers! Mike

In fact the actual filming is not such a big deal. The tripod is always next to me and I use my phone to film so no special set up. The light is pretty good at the shop so I just press the button and shoot. What is taking a lot of time is the editing. I don't want to bother people with watching me cut a 1ft line for a minute... so I speed it up or just show the start and the finish or I even eliminate it at all. Also my English ads up to the already long editing. I edit out a lot of "aaaam" and "what was the word" or just repeated phrases, because I didn't pronounce them right the first time. LOL, as you can tell many times I don't pronounce them right even the second time or even third or...... ever LOL, but I am working on it.

Great close-ups of those rear seals. So timely that you put this up as I'm about to tackle the job. I've had seals (no window seals) from TRF sitting around for ~ 4yrs and it's about time I installed them. I removed the front top seal with a heat gun- it had turned to plastic. Proud of myself for getting it off, but I saw you use a heat gun for something similar in the past, and it worked for me as well!

Elin, I am going back some 60 + years, but there used to be a socket and fittings for bulkhead screws etc and sized "OBA" we used them a lot when removing panels and tin ware around scuttles and inner splash panels They were an odd size which were neither British Standard Whitworth or BA.. I have not seen them since the 60's or so.
@RustyBeauties
@RustyBeauties 2 года назад
Yeah, we still see whitworth nuts here and there on the Triumphs, but mostly used as captive nuts - no wrench required. No, these were just eaten by the rust, which turned them into a tapered hex head LOL

Hi Elin, when you get to refitting the wiring, I can give you a hand if you want. I'm just finishing off repairing all the dodgy wiring in my Spitfire. So I pretty much know the circuit by heart, and I also have an electronic background.

the roll pin may only come out one way if the hole in the shaft is tapered. Found that out when I replaced the drive shaft on a 1971 snow blower

I tried pushing the pin the other way, but it just "mushrooms" the end, which is weird as I thought it was hardened, since I can't drill it....

Phenomenal video I mean phenomenal I learn so much every time I watch your videos all these are invaluable tutorials to me thank you so much Elin!! For a minor correction WD-40 is a silicon spray best suited for electronics. The W and the D stand for water displacement. Some people like to use the compound called krill it’s a penetrant, blaster you can get at O’Reilly‘s or wherever, LPS. My personal favorite is called Mouse Milk, you can order Mouse Milk online I found that to be the most effective penetrant on virtually any stubborn Bolt that I have experience to date! I’m very much looking forward to the next video and tutorial! Into anyone else reading this if you haven’t subscribed to his channel and signed him up on Patreon do yourself a major favor and contribute we need to keep his work going!! I’m just a guy looking at his videos like you, I am NOT A “shill”! Thank you again, Elin

For removing underbody coatings or these rubber protections i have found this tool very useful especially when the coating is thick and old --> Hazet 822 Angle Scraper Works very good and does not make a huge mess like with a wire wheel

Good work! One thing though... Where are your safety glasses? Especially when doing the grinding? I learned the hard way. A tiny metal splinter in my eye! Hurt like crazy, but could have been worse... I was very lucky it didn't effect my vision. Regarding the roll pin in the throttle linkage... Have you tried pushing it out the opposite direction? Maybe the hole is tapered? Our old TRs sure like to rot out under the battery, don't they? I had a similar repair to my TR4's battery shelf. Previous owner fiberglassed something on there... Pretty lousy job of it. I replaced with sheet aluminum initially, finally came back and did a proper repair on it later. Under the master cylinders is another common rust spot. Hydraulic fluid leaks, lifts the paint, then the tin worm gets busy! Same thing happened under my TR4's brake master cylinder while it was in storage... First through the bulk head, then through the floor underneath!
@RustyBeauties
@RustyBeauties 2 года назад
I had metal shavings in my eyes multiple times as a kid. I was just stupid at the time. But in the last 6-7 years, ever since I started restoring cars, the only time I had an issue was once when I was taking off my shirt and something from the shirt went into my eye. I was using safety glasses before I started wearing prescription ones a few years ago. Now I just use my prescription ones as safety and other than ruining them LOL I don't have any problems. I tried pushing the pin the other way, but it just "mushrooms" the end, which is weird as I thought it was hardened, since I can't drill it....

Like some other people here I was going to suggest using heat and then trying to push the pin out from the opposite direction. Seems to me that might work

@not-fishing4730
@not-fishing4730 2 года назад
I use a homemade penetrant that is better than WD40. 50% Acetone and 50% ATF, cheap and works great. The only problem is having a spray bottle that the Acetone doesn't attack.
@robertferrell8518
@robertferrell8518 2 года назад
I like your recipe for a penetrant and yes that’ll be very effective but on a short term basis. The acetone in your recipe will evaporate out of it quicker than anything because it’s a solvent not to mention that if you’re going to reuse that bolt and nut you sprayed it on you better make sure that you clean it off with all the rest of you being absent because it will not take paint as you should with any penetrant.

@@RustyBeauties weird, I agree, maybe some previous owner lost the pin and cut a length of nail and pounded it in, would heating the shaft and some penetrating oil give a result.

Elin, I have a 69 TR6 with a Stromberg 175 CD-2. The normal tool does not work to adjust the richness/lean. Do you know which tool I need? I can't find any info anywhere.
@RustyBeauties
@RustyBeauties Год назад
Unfortunately there is no tool to adjust the early TR6 Strombergs. I believe up to 1970 the needles were not adjustable. They are affixed permanently to the piston. Instead there are needles with different profiles and you just replace the needle to adjust the mixture. Moss are offering two profiles, but I am not sure which one you would need. Recently I had to deal with non-adjustable needles and I was able to "cheat" a little bit by loosening the set screw and moving the needle down a little, but that is not a great solution. It worked only because it was too rich and I wanted it lean. Won't work the opposite way and it is not very accurate.
