Even though I started the season a month ago with the Spitfire I still haven't done what I was planning for the winter. So finally I found some time to pay some attention to this Rusty Beauty as well.
Nice video. I want to recommend you to mount the gas springs at the bonnet upside down for a longer lifetime. (Upsd the sealing is always in contact with oil and stays okay. In your position it gets dry which shortens the lifetime.
Yep, some days you can't win, cobber; hope the rest of your evening turned out a whole lot better than this afternoon did.. On the good side, we get to see more of your work and that's a plus!
:) I guess I made it look really bad, judging by all the comments. It was bad that I damaged the rad, but the rest of the day wasn't that bad. Thanks for the support.
I feel your pain, Elin! I’ve had similar experience: just when you think you have it licked it comes back to bite you! (I’m sure there’s a Bulgarian saying to that effect!) Just remember you are the one who can reason it through and cars do not heal themselves! Cheering for you...
Yeah, there are sayings for everything in Bulgaria. Unfortunately most of them are untranslatable. They just lose their meaning when translated. The ancient Bulgarians were really wise people, not like me LOL
It happens more and more often nowadays. People do damage obviously and then just flee the scene. She'll probably keep doing it until she gets caught unfortunately. It looks like it's going to be a marathon and not a sprint with your repairs and upgrades. But we've seen before that you will get them completed eventually. Good luck. We're all cheering for you.
Unfortunatelly one day she will cause some bigger damage somewhere as she is a really bad driver. I could tell just by the way she parks her car. It is always diagonally in her spot or too close to the line so the cars next to her have no room to park in their own spots.
Good to see the old girl getting some attention again.Hope the body damage is sorted out soon. Do you carry comprehensive insurance for these sort of problems? Is there a "Collectors" or "Classic" vehicle insurance in Ontario? For the minor rust control during winter storage, try "ACF 50". It was developed for Aircraft metal protection but it has a great reputation on motorcycles for not just storage but also wet weather/mild winter riding. If you get it, be sure to get the liquid in a bottle, not the aerosol...as it does not spray too well in the can. You can apply with brush/rag or a proper compressor spray gun.
This is a bit late but Lucas relays like the 5RA use '85' as low current Positive power from the switch with '86' as the Negative ground or Earth to 'switch on' the relay. The '30' or '35' terminal is the circuit from high current fused Positive power to the horn (or whatever) via the '87' sometimes 'G' terminal. '87a' cn be a feed to a warning light if on or off. I have seen the '30' terminal meaning 30 Amps while a '35' terminal will mean 35 amps loading. Many older Lucas relays use the labels W1 for the power from the switch with 'W2' as the earth side to 'switch on' the relay and C1 to C2 for the Positive power to the Horn (or whatever), C3 and C4 can be a warning light connections indicating when the relay is 'off' or 'on'. For example even if you move the switch to 'On' the relay may not 'click' in and the 'off' warning light will remain on but if it 'clicks' in the 'On' warning light will be powered. As I say its a bit late but hope this helps.
Thanks! :) I just finished editing my next video and I explain all that in it as I had to install another relay for a rad fan. Now your comment makes me think I did overexplain it a little :) Most of the people are gonna hate me as they are gonna have a headache :) Thanks for your comment.

Another victim of 's**t happens' (fan issue). I hope that it was just a loose nut and not a stud or bolt breaking. Your troubleshooting of the relay showed brilliance. You get an 'A'! Sometimes I feel like I should be taking notes when I watch your videos LOL

It's actually nice to see this happen to someone else for a change, and you didn't throw any tools or f-bombs (on camera!). For some guys, that stuff is a show stopper. I wouldn't have been able to get past the horn relay, for instance, unless some dude on RU-vid describes how to get around that. Last week, I started to troubleshoot a possible bad O2 sensor in my Alfa, and right away my trunk release cable broke. I wasn't as calm as you would have been ;)
Elin, I love your videos! Thank you very much for you time and effort as it is much appreciated! What type of coolant do you put into you Triumph Spitfire MK2?
Thank you! I don't have a preference on coolant. Any coolant of the shelf is good for me. I know for modern engines there are different choices, but for these old ladies I don't think it makes any difference :)
I'm so sorry to hear about the stupid woman that hit your car, I hope it gets sorted out soon. I hope your fan and radiator are not too difficult to fix.
Elin, please try to break yourself of the habit of setting tools on top of the battery. I quickly became and advocate of not only disconnecting, but REMOVING the battery in preparation for wok under the bonnet. Really really (surprisingly) quickly.
I hope she's going to pay and not only that, I hope the police will give her a hefty fine - I really hate that kind of people, sh*theads that do hit n' run on other peoples cars, and won't admit it! They should have their driver license suspended for at least 6 month! I really hope it's gonna pan out for you, and you're getting your car fixed on her insurance! Cheers.
hi, a bad day at the office!, re aftermarket part , just put a new window regulator in my tr6, two bolts sheared the bush off the back plate, useless cheap rubbish from ebay seller.
