1967-1972 Chevy Truck A Pillar (Front Pillar) Replacement
The goal of the many videos I have posted to RU-vid is to provide a free, step-by-step guide on how to perform rust repairs on 1967-1972 Chevy truck (specifically, but can be applied to anything). To my knowledge, there are no other video series available that will teach you step-by-step how to do this work. Definitely not that is free.
I have many instructional videos up on my channel on metal work so check those out.
The only thorough instructional videos on cab metal work is a DVD that is SOLD by a user for ~$100 and there are a lot of details and thought processes skipped. If you gained anything from these videos I would greatly appreciate a 'subscription' and a 'like'. After all, its free and your alternative for the only other option (this detailed) is around $100.
Thanks for watching and I hope these videos encourage you to restore that old truck or other classic vehicle.

I’m doing same repair. Instead of all the gauge stuff, I used measurements from a bunch of points, neodymium magnets to hold the new piece Nd once in place, butt welded in place and it fir 99% perfectly. Think bout that for your next piece....thanks for the post

Yeah previously I came up with a plan to weld a jig to the truck to match up with where that fender mount needed to be. I totally forgot about that plan till after doing this. I hear that sort of thing gets worse with age!!! Maybe Ill make a short video on it when I do the other side, if I can remember!!

May I ask...It does not look like you have gone ahead and welded in the floor pan, just bolted in stead? Do you do this in case of needing to adjust in the future for rockers, cab corners, etc.?
@MAYCOCustomRestorations
@MAYCOCustomRestorations 3 года назад
That is correct, floor pan gets welded in permanently last.

Hey Thanks for your Vids. I am working on a 1969 C20 that will need A& B Pillar work along with Rockers and floor Pans , so you hav e been extremely instructive . One question will you bolt the Pillar down and then finish the outer Rocker? If so how would you access those bolts if you needed ? Would you have to cut the front of the rocker? Thanks again
@MAYCOCustomRestorations
@MAYCOCustomRestorations 3 года назад
Thanks Al. Yes I will bolt that pillar to the floor pan before welding in the outer rocker. There are 4 bolts on the A pillar, two of which are behind the outer rocker once it is in place. Due to that, you either have to install your bolts/nuts before welding on the outer rocker OR weld nuts on to the inside (between inner and outer rocker panels like they were originally) then you can put the bolt in later. I would suggest the first method (bolt in, then weld in the rocker). Some people also plug weld those but my opinion is that they came bolted and the plug weld would not be as strong as a grade 8 bolt/nut. (FYI there are only two bolts on the B pillar if I recall correctly) Cheers

Howdy, I’ve watched a few of your videos. Have you ever had to replace the section of roof, inside, where the front glass meets the roof? I have a 71 C30 that the fore mentioned piece is rusted. I bought the aftermarket replacement but would like someone to show how it’s done. Thanks and keep up the awesome work! Mike

On that pillar lower you replaced does it not need to be hole punched to be spot welded on the door side edge of it?

@@douglasquiroz3736 Oh wow you’re one of the first small amount of people to be using that panel. That panel has not been produced for long, I’m thinking about 6 months or so by now. I don’t know anyone or have heard of anyone actually using it. Please let us know how it goes. I hope it includes the entire cab corners and possibly b pillars. You will want to brace the cab a lot.

Not to be a jerk but please stop the cab swaying, on video it makes people Sea sick. I like the use of the conture gage but how do you locate the new cab pillar for and aft?
@MAYCOCustomRestorations
@MAYCOCustomRestorations 3 года назад
Do you mean the part of pillar where the fender mounts? or the lower part of the pillar itself?

Thanks for the input btw, I didnt notice but then again I got my sea legs haha. Ill try and watch for it next time, hard to keep it super still because of how I suspend it.

@@MAYCOCustomRestorations It was like that for quite awhile . Steel was worthless . Steel was for the most part free and easy to get up until barrack oboma drove steel to 300 a ton ..The cash for clunkers was a scam to to kill self reliance and take away cars that anyone could work on That ruined me .That ruined everybody .That is when all the junk trucks and equipment disappeared out of farmers fields and new steel was ungodly expensive . but people were buying things .Now I have both high dollar steel . no scrap steel and no one is buying or building anything . Glad I am 50 .There is no way I would want to start a business now . Like I said let me know if you want a piece of heavy steel .If I can get it to you I will give it to you
