How to repair a rusty cab corner, inner rocker, rear floor and B-pillar panels-1971 Chevy C10 PART 1

In this video I'm going to show you how to replace a cab corner, inner rocker, rear floor section and a rear B-pillar repair panel on a 1971 Chevy C-10. These techniques can also be used on Chevrolet C10, C20, C30 and GMC trucks, Blazer and Jimmy 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971 and 1972.
The C-10 panels I used were from TriPlus which are the panels that most aftermarket companies sell like Auto Metal Direct, Goodmark, Chevy Truck Stop and LMC Truck. Every repair patch panel was welded with a Lincoln Power MIG 140, with a 75/25 shielding gas.
This is my restomod project, old school hot rod styling with a modern drivetrain and most of the performance and handling of a newer sports car/truck.

Great video, my original cab had lots of rust up top so decided to use a, donor cab that's rotten way down back there as well. Now I've got a really good Idea of the fun I'm going to have. Thanks for a great video, looking forward to part 2.

The issue with the cab corner and pillar I've had every time. The pillar stamps are horrible, just wait till you see how the bottom looks when you try to throw a rocker on. I basically make my own pillars but its a lot more work. Id suggest fitting up your rocker before welding all that in, preferably if you can throw the door back on..

Yea those panels are terrible. I've seen it with the rocker and the door... it's bad. I've been prefitting 5 panels ahead. Lol

@@chrismooney5737 very, very slowly. Just collecting parts and tools at the moment. Just ordered a billet midplate for the ST-10 and a seal gasket kit. The old mid plate is warped and the trans has been leaking ever since I rebuilt it.

I got a 83 c10 and i just realized my cab is rotton where it hooks up to the mounts right there behind the front wheel wheels is it worth it to keep tinkering just been doing breaks and now ive lost motivation to even test vaccum compression and do timing.. the frame is solid and cabs held on the back 2 mounts and the front clip with the 2 under the rad are ok..

Yeah it's hard to get motivated sometimes especially when you got other things going on. My 69 that I bought is completely rotted around the cowl and firewall. Yeah if you decide to do some metal work on the front of your cab just take your time and measure twice.

So the b-pillar I believe I got from TC Truck Parts in WI, (715) 321-0450 part # 0849-213 (when I run this number online it comes back as the crappy panel so when you call make sure they have the high quality galvanized finish b-panel. Another Keyparts supplier is Bowtie Truck Parts out of MN, it's a Ma and Pop shop (they are awesome, they shipped me freight a ton of C-10 panels) you can try them also. Kevin's cell (612) 242-9925 The high quality Outer rocker part # is 0849-101AL Hope that helps. Cab corner was AMD.

Most of my panels are from AMD, Goodmark and Summit. Most panels that I've seen are the same between companies. Some triplus panels are better then keyparts and vice versa. I can't speak for the quality of 65 panels because I haven't dealt with that year truck. I know they are starting to produce high quality panels for some years but not sure if for your generation truck. If you had a 67-72 I could tell you a little bit more. Good luck.

The bracket that you cut out in floor under fuel tank, is that the cab mount or what is that for thanks

There are 2 supports. One that runs from the firewall to the back of the cab, thats the inner cab floor support. The cab floor rear brace is the one that run under the tank, from drivers cab corner to pass cab corner. If you are referring to the plate that sits on top of the floor that's threaded, that is the mount that holds the cab to the frame.

I ordered them from a couple different companies but honestly it's all the same stamping. Key parts are putting together a handfull of high quality patch panels at the moment. You can get front floor pieces and a b pillar that is exact to the original. There are a couple of other ones they are about to release. I can't say too much yet because they haven't been released but I've been fitting one lately and it fits like the original except for one cut I had to make. I'll be posting fitment videos around the same time they put them into production. Make sure you stay tuned on here for that video and where to buy. Some are better than others. Keyparts started making high quality stamping recently. I plan on making a video about the difference in quality between the 2 main stamping plants in Taiwan that supply most of the classic panel companies like, Goodmark, Auto Metal Direct, LMC, Original Parts Group, etc. Got a handful of vids to edit first but it's definitely on the list.

I don't understand how they can get away with calling them patch panels for the 67-72, if its not a direct copy of the lay out it is in fact NOT a patch panel for a 67-72. It's for something else.. and that's what I like to call.. FALSE FUCKING ADVERTISING! 🤯

Yeah the so called patch panels for the C-10 seem like they were intended to be slip over pieces over the existing panels. There's very few companies that are making an exact replica but keep your eyes on keyparts in the near future. I will also be putting out some videos on some new panels that are gonna be coming out when they are available to the public.
