Upon my return from Nam 01/70 I bought an all black 67 SS Chevelle 396cu, 375 HP 4 bolt main, 4sd, 411 rear, and added hooker headers and Holley dual feed. All black interior with the Chevy walnut steering wheel, a real beauty and performer. I waxed it weekly and dressed the tires so It was no surprise that it turned heads everywhere I went. Most folks didn’t know me but knew the car being the only black SS around but mostly cause it blew away every thing it ran against every Sunday at the local track. After I got married and planned on being a parent I sold it and bought a new 72 SS Chevelle, 350, auto. Two of the best cars I ever owned and to this day I often miss that black 67 SS. What a fantastic ride!
Thank you for actually getting on the car and climbing those rpms. Too often people showing these old cars never let us see or hear what they will do. Car sounds AMAZING! GREAT VIDEO
Huh? He never got on it and you’d be amazed at the sound plus performance if you did. This dude drove the car pretty gentle and didn’t really give a dood perspective of its ‘giddie up’ ability.
My grandfather passed away this past Monday, his 1967 Chevelle SS in Marina Blue is being passed to me, he never got the chance to teach me how to care for th car or even drive it, it hasn’t been started in over a year and is sitting on a. Trickle charger. I’m horrified but excited to learn and take it to car shows in his honor
Aren't they called triple chargers? 🤔 Plus, it's not really TOO much to having an old restored classic car. Just ALWAYS keep up the fluids and DRIVING it, NOT just letting em sit. THAT'S actually the hardest thing on them. When they get parked forever and NOT at least KEPT started every couple weeks, with at least a quick run around the block or something....👍
Hey xnova. My grandfather has the SS 396 Tuxedo Black which is on my possession. Have an experienced mechanic give it the once over. Car is worth 100k Please comment
Just thinking about those games we played at a younger age instead of the ugly girlfriend body parts swapping it's marina blue and a lot of repairs and high milage and original transmission or a black almost mint original numners matching and low miles and 1 of 40 for special features wich one do you pick😂😂😂
BLACK IS 👑.... OR? Yeah, you COULD have the car in Marina Blue and be like, HOW MANY other Joe schmos with a 66-67 Chevelle painted Marina Blue too. NO way... IF ya gotta be 🔵 blue? Then go Mist Blue (for 66) or the Nantucket Blue (for 67), REALLY similar.... Those blues actually have way better paint flopping characteristics (from like a blue gray or the blue green turquoise look when in certain light etc.) And hey, I do like Marina Blue too! I just prefer the other blue a bit more, and of course, BLACK IS BLACK. And when it's done CORRECTLY?.... It's near impossible to beat! (where I am from, anyways) 😎🤘🔥🤘
Are u suggesting he keeps both hands on the steering wheel after he gets to forth gear? That wouldn't be as cool though- as roughing up the fork sliders with his right hand- 😅👍🎄
Man, I wished my Dad held on to his SS and I would have swapped the engine out. Why? He re-jetted the carb, adjusted the timing and put in a different cam. It would pull the front tires off the ground. He floated a valve and Chevy "fixed" it, but it wasn't the same since.
I had a 67 SS396 with a 411 posi.Man it pulled hard, those old strato-bucket seats would throw you back like a rocking chair and you would be looking at the sky.I also wanted a 4 speed though, and better brakes too!
I owned an all black 67 SS, 4sp, 396 cu, 375 HP, 411 posi, hooker headers, and my buckets were bolted down to the car and never rocked backward. When getting on it the G’s would press you into the seat firmly but never rocked backwards. Strange!
Pretty sure that cowl hood is NOT an aftermarket item but either a steel or glass repop cowl hood where the builder cut the holes out for the factory OEM louvers..... I've NEVER seen em, anyways lol. And I have been building 66-67 Chevelles for DECADES 😎🤘🔥🤘
It's giving me OCD: the clutch is not meant to stay pressed at a traffic light. It is a transition element. Only push it when you need to change gear. Great car and nice video however.
Yep..in neutral and right foot on the break ONLY. Then? When gettin ready to take off, THEN foot 🦶 on the clutch and pick 1st or 2nd gear depending on the sitch 😎🤘
My concern is that oil pressure……a little low in my opinion…..is that a 396 under the hood? I own a 66 Chevelle with a 427 & my oil pressure is always around 70-75 on a cold start but it never drops below 65 pounds. Beautiful car,,,that black paint is awesome!
David Salvo , my 66 Chevelle SS has a built 327 and runs 65 pounds pressure , Has a 11 inch clutch and M-21 Muncie, The big block 396 has been long since gone , the little 327 makes 475hp so I'm satisfied.
@@donavan2676 , 327 has a Forged Steel Vette Crank , Forged 12:1 Pistons, is in a 350 block with 4 bolt mains , Ported heads , aluminum intake, Crane camshaft , 1050cfm Holley carb, Headers, 11 inch clutch , M-21 Muncie 4 speed trans , 12 bolt posi , solid steel engine mounts to solid steel frame mounts , NO rubber , At the time of drag racing , had an Auto Trans with shift kit 2004 was last year , Ran 5.5 second @96mph in 1/8 Track is shorter than 1/8 mile But is called 1/8 mile ! In 2009 engine was cranked to 11,000rpm twice for about 5 seconds each time then held at 8,000rpm for a few seconds , weight 3200lb Pulls both front tires off the ground in 1st and 2nd gear . Is a 138 True 1966 Super Sport and has been retired from drag racing . And runs 65 pounds oil pressure on a S&W oil ga.
I had a true 1967 Chevy Chevelle SS 396 Car . THe car you have is missing the Tachometer . Which was on the upper left side where the speedomter is . I wonder if that car . Started out as a just a regular Chevelle.
Richard Maaske , it had SS dash and other SS parts but that doesn't mean anything because people can change things , And a regular Chevelle is a Malibu 136 VIN A SS or Super Sport is a Chevelle Super Sport 138 VIN
Yeah, the 67 year only DID HAVE the blinker tach OPTION. Again, it was an option. NOT ALL 67s had the blinker tach. Especially, any of the Malibu or 300/300 Deluxe line...I "could be" incorrect about the blinker tach ONLY being an available option for the actual BB Super Sport Chevelles but? I have NEVER seen the blinker tach in ANY NON SS Chevelles, so.... And YES. The blinker tach WAS an option for 67 SS CHEVELLES, meaning? NOT ALL 67 SS CHEVELLES had them originally. And yeah, I am betting that the featured 67( in the video) is NOT a original 138 # true SS car, neither. IF so? THAT would've been the 1st thing that got described on the car. 😎🤘
Tach was an option for the 67 SS Chevelle. I owned an all black 67 SS 396 cu. 375 Hp 4 bolt main with a 411 posi. I installed a beautiful Sun Tach on the steering column which didn’t take much eye movement from road to tach when racing.
I hate it when drivers plunge the clutch pedal down first pulling up to a stop. You should ALWAYS push in the brake first and let the engine slow you down (maybe even downshift) then the last 10 feet or so push in on the clutch so the engine doesn't lurch. I can always tell who was shown the proper way to drive a 4 speed.
@@danlevesque5437 Go through LOTTA throw-out bearings foot restin the clutch, indeed! BIG NO NO! 👆 Kinda "thought" MOST car guys/hot rodders knew such but.....😎👍
great looking car, great video, but you might want to get a guy who can drive a four speed better than that guy? shifting a nice muscle car for sale is an art, he doesn't have it. But a great looking car.
I FORGOT, THIS 67 IS AWESOME I HAD,NT NOTICE THE COWEL HOOD IT SHOULD HAVE LOOKED LIKE THAT FORM THE FACTORY NEVER COULD FIGURE OUT WHY CHEVY NEVER MADE THOSE HOODS FROM 66 67 68 AND 9 SOME HOW FUNCTIONAL GREAT JOB
@@jamescon55 You can absolutely build one for less than half of these asking prices if you do the work yourself. I’ve done well over a dozen SHOW QUALITY restorations of late 60s Mopars and GMs I’ve owned over the last 30 years. 68-69 Chargers, Road Runners, Darts, Barracudas, Chevelles, Novas, etc. I don’t farm anything out, and have the skill to do laser straight body and paint, engine/trans/rear end builds, chassis fab, electrical, interior, etc. I’ve built full race cars, and the list goes on. If you have the skill and don’t pay someone else to work for you, then you come out way ahead.
