I would have used the brass shield again. It blocks interference hum. That is what I have been told. It might reduce that buzz. Don't throw those old pots out. They add to the value of the antique. Had you already tried oxy switch cleaner and compressed air to quiet them down?

I know it's an old post, but here goes. It's sounds very nice. Modern electronics tend to be closer in spec as manufacturers got better at holding tolerances. I do hope you reinstall the Ferriday cage. As the previous commenter 👆 said, it does knock out some stray electronic interference. That harness is probably common ground by today's standard, but in the day, those brass and aluminum plates were used to central ground the harness and connect the harness to the bridge ground. If you get bored, it is definitely worth the time and effort to reinstall, but solder the bridge ground to it. It will amaze you how clean they can get. I also made a thin brass plate for the cavity cover of my 61 SG and soldered in a 3in ground connecting both to complete the circuit. If you're going to do more maintenance, can I suggest a fine electronics solder station ? As much as we all love those old Weller handhelds, they can easily overheat the internal sweeper plates and cause premature breakdown of the contacts at the most inopportune times. You have some pretty good tunes on your channel. I hope to check back in periodically to hear some new ones. I, too, have a soft spot in my heart for the Norlan era L5 and L6's. I had a beautiful cherry 1963 Gibson 335 back in 1985, but during a move, it got crushed between some heavy furniture. Since I was a teenager at the time and too broke to replace it, I found an L6-S Deluxe at Bizarre Guitar in Mesa Arizona and plunked down the princely sum of $200 on a sunburst version. I lucked out, and they had an ES-330T single P90 in Cherry for $250. I borrowed $20 from my dad to put it on layaway and worked my butt off all summer to get it out of jail.🤣 I have bought many Gibsons since but my trusty old L6 is always within reach. It's just a beautiful economic design of a workhorse guitar that never fails. I got into Fenders many years ago but soon figured out the L6 was supplying the Tele "quack" the whole time. It's my desert island guitar. Sorry for the long post. It's been a while since I've run across someone else who's owned one for as long as I have. So, which one is your #1 ? The L6 or the SG ?🤔

Renting, thanks for the comments. Okay, where to start... I'm so sorry your guitar got kill by furniture during a move, thats a terrible situation. If you were as poor as I was during my teens than I know how much that hurts. I did not reinstall the brass grounding plate but you make a good point about noise so maybe, if I get bored, I'll reinstall. I don't play live since I have no band and its all just me so noise hasn't been an issue, so far. My L6-S sounds great, I can make it sound like a single coil with a few turns of the selector and an adjustment on the centre pot, midrange. So which is my favorite, hmmm, I would say the SG, it just heels so familiar and I know it like the back of my hand even though I've had the L6-S longer. I have an Ibanez single coil for the country twang sound but I can never get it to sound bluesy.. Anyway, I ramble on. Thanks for listening to my music, All of my songs were written by me and all of the music was played by me and all of the vocals, good and bad , were sung by me. Its getting so hard to hear real music any more, music with a few flaws and quirks. So I am what I am, a real dude making music. Have a great day and keep in touch, I'm not done yet.

@stevepopemusic1658 👍 I just mentioned reinstalling the plate because I played a couple of places with tons of neon and well, old guitar and a tube amp pick up that frequency like setting a cell phone on an OD pedal.🤣 Learned that the hard way. Keep on turning out the tunes, I'm at a (health and age) where I sit by myself and " do all the parts " into an old analog setup I cobbled together in the early 90s.
