The 1967 CJ5 finally gets a deep clean after 25 years of neglect! While cleaning I find a few missing parts to the Jeep and remove and replace some worn out parts. I change the boots on the t90 transmission and Dana 18 transfercase. I clean out some old electronics and wiring. And peel off layers of bondo in an archeological dig revealing something pretty surprising! The old cj5 is really cleaning up nice and for sure looks way better by the end of this video!

I have a 64 CJ5 with the same cracked up bondo mess like yours. Mine starts under Jeep script. I have good metal on inside of tub. Maybe people slapped Bondo on to cover spot welds. You have motivated me to grind mine off and soon as weather warms up. Keep up good wor

There is a great product to remove rust, that will chemically change the rust. It's called Ospho. Available at Ace Hardware. I used it on my 1964 CJ5. Once the rust is converted, it is harmless and it can be safely sanded and painted. Awesome to recover the damage done to the "Jeep" logo. Covering that up was horrible. So: Ospho, Sand and paint. Looking forward to what you will do next. My glove box was gone, too, but I made one with wood.

Wow! I never expected the transfer case boots to stretch enough to go over the knobs. Good trick!

Suggestion. If the clanging around of that super retro cup holder bothers you, go to Lowe’s or Home Depot and grab a can (not the spray type, but the “dip” type) of plastidip and just dip the lower portion of your cool cup holder in some of that and let it dry. Do it a few times, build up a couple layers to deaden the sound and protect your dash! Win/win! Great project and I love following this!

Picklex20 for the win on bare metal. What are the plans for the Jeep? Just a beater, woods Jeep? That determines direction. I can’t help but fix, cut out, panel replace where there is rust. How you feel about Bondo is how I feel about rust. You are in TN and that is the Meca for auto restorations, etc in the East. Offer advertisement in an episode from a Chemical dipper and just kill all the birds in the corn field in one go around. Then, fix the rust, use 3-4 coats of VP2050 Epoxy Primer and paint it it back whatever color you want. Such a faster process and not that much $. Would be a great series.

Just a beater woods Jeep not a restoration. Bondo usually means rust haha thank you for the recommendations I appreciate it!

Same guy must have done my Jeep logo that did yours - seriously. I still don't know how to get my logos visible again either (mine are bondoed over on both sides). You're pretty good with a welder - they do sell replacement panels with the Jeep logo you might want to look into. Great video!

Good fix on the glovebox, I used a piece of gal sheet with a 90 bend on the Power Wagon, it butted up against the firewall so the firewall became the back and top. CJ5 coming along OK, you had much better quality rubber boots than I did, mine spit first time I shifted the 4x4 lever.

Nice job! I found placing those rubber parts in very hot water makes them more manageable to stretch over the nobs but I liked your idea with the bag and grease and I was hoping it didn't tear... nice clean up too.

hey Jacob! Your videos must be getting popular... I had like 4 pop-up ads during your video. The sign of success, I guess. If it were me, with the body filler situation, I'd try to grind off as much as i could from the area between the front fender and the door opening and feather it out under the door. it would be a much smaller transition area and be a lot less noticeable. then find a green that matches. advance auto has a paint match camera and can mix some that matches and even put it in a spray bomb for you! a large chunk of the putty with paint on it should be enough for them to match it. Just an option. BTW, I am going to sell my '67 V6 CJ. As you know its new from bumper to bumper and more perfect than when it was new. if you know someone looking, send em my way.

I'll be interested in how you go on the seat covers. I can't find a budget friendly option. My foam is usable but the covers are split open. I've Retro Manufacturing for an older looking radio. Some recommend marine radios for the weather but they don't right in a old Jeep.
