1967 VW Beetle - Floor Tarboard - Seals - Running Boards

We're less than 3 weeks away, and less than 10 work days away from the VW Airhead Campers VW Round Up in Florence, AZ! Our to do list is dwindling down and at this point our 1967 Sunroof Beetle is running, driving and stopping so now we can get to work on making it somewhat more comfortable and "road worthy". Sam starts by cleaning out and vacuuming up the remnants of the original "horsehair" coconut husk seat padding before installing new floor tarboards and some "all weather" floor mats. Then he installs new window Deluxe or "American Style" front and rear window seals with aluminum trim and pop-out quarter window trim pieces. Then, (upon a nearly unanimous vote, on whether to install fender beading), he installs some running boards and new fender beading. Follow along and enjoy the process of getting this car truly ready for the road!

The longer videos are good. The more VW specific “tips” the better, they keep us from making mistakes we might have otherwise.

To me, it's much more interesting seeing the whole process, just as you did in this video. That way I can see some details on how to do these things correctly in my bug. Great job, by the way! Can't wait to see that beetle ready for the show...

I like the longer, more detailed videos. As I am going through similar processes with my Beetle, I like to know what issues you encounter and how you addressed it. If you just do it and get it done, then I can see how you did it and follow that with my attempt.

I enjoyed the long video but in many cases we might not have time to sit through a longer video... Today i had plenty of time so i thoroughly enjoyed it... Sam I'm looking for someone in the future to do a high end vw build for me.. Buddy Hale quality.. I've been out of the VW scene for a long time, but would like to enjoy one again... Thx for any help you can give me and thx for bringing us along on another adventure with the 67.. Take care and God Bless...

Absolutely, I don't hold punches. Cheap parts or not, if it doesn't fit well, it doesn't fit well and I am not sugar coating anything. That being said, if there is a better quality option, get it! I laugh when people buy the cheaper option and then complain that it doesn't fit as well as the more expensive option....what do you expect!

It's the years and experience of doing it wrong and learning along the way! There are TONS of things on any restoration that take time and patience more than skill and know how. I do shorten some of the longer sequences (most of the time with a time lapse) but I try and make sure I show the truly hard parts where there is value in learning the tricks I've learned throughout the years, and in some cases, as you're watching!

Very similar, yes. The "T" style Ghia chrome is the easiest trim to install since there is more "meat" to work with!

That's the line I'm trying to walk, making sure I show enough of the detail and speeding up the tasks when possible. All in the balance of making sure that the videos are helpful but still entertaining. I don't mind a little "classroom" with my entertainment and vice versa!

I have never been able to get chrome window trim and windows in that easily with todays cheap poor quality rubber parts. What brand of trim and seals you use on this 67?
