Hats off to the designers of this engine. Nothing overly complicated or inaccessible. As long as there are reasonably priced parts available, you could keep that bike running indefinitely.

Yes, I agree Geoff. It's a very nice bike to work on. Cheers, Mike

A good project - not too demanding. That Lightning is a handsome devil, too!

What you do for others...you are a true friend indeed. Ps. I would change out the two cotter pins regardless, leaving no doubt they are new.

Hi Ken, thank you very much for your kind comments! It really is my pleasure to help friends keep their bikes on the road. Thanks for the advice about the cotter / split pins! Cheers, Mike

I can't decide which looks best, a Lightning or a Bonneville. Both are gorgeous.

Looks a good job Mike , I suspect the problem was caused mostly by the clutch . Are you replacing the kickstart and gear change springs as well ? . They are cheap and I know from bitter experience they normally go and you have to take it apart to renew the broken one . All the best nick

Thanks Nick, yes John has bought all new springs and we will be replacing them in an upcoming vid. Yes, I agree with you that if we could identify one thing that was causing the problem it would be the clutch. There was a lot wrong with it. The parts have all arrived and we're about 90% done with the reassembly but have also found another little problem, so that will take another tech session to fix! Cheers, Mike
