My Dad had one of these - in Mimosa (that’s yellow!). Brilliant little car of its day. I used to polish it to within an inch of its life - in yellow it looked great!
Hi Martijn. Thank you for making and sharing this video. We had a 1973 Daf 33, it was 10 years old at the time but we loved it! Sadly corrosion eventually ate it! Thank you for the memories😉🙃
There used to be a couple of brothers who ran a Daf 33 as a Rallycross car. I always enjoyed seeing that bombing along amidst all the Escorts, Minis, Cortinas and occasional Capri!
1:28 Daf was the inventor of the variomatic. The variable pulleys were invented by Reeves in the late 1800s ! Daf may have been the first to fit them to cars.
Variomatic was the first commercially available cvt in a produced car. The pulleys were not only adjusted by centrifugal weights but also a vacuum boosted controller system that could "shift" the cvt into lower and higher ratios depending on engine vacuum and throttle input.
DAF is a great Car. I like it! But don't compare it with an Toyota. The Belt- CVT has nothing common with a THS or E-CVT! It is totally different! One is mechanical transmission, the other is magnetic drive.
