Mr. Norms Grand Spaulding Dodge in Chicago built alot of awesome muscle car's there in the 1960's-'70's. My neighbor (when I was a kid) had a plum crazy 1971 440+6pak Charger R/T from Mr. Norms. It was awesome !
Growing up in the late '60s early '70s, we lived a few blocks from Grand Spalding Dodge. Me and my buddies would hang out and droll over the cars until we got politely herded away. I think even as ten year old kids, we knew we were experiencing history in the making. I'm still a Mopar kid to this day.
I've owned car number 15 and 47 during my life. So cool, nothing more unique in joy to own. Plus I had a '69 GTS built by the factory like all the 69's were. Darts are terrible at handling and stopping but when it comes to straight line acceleration you won't find a better acceleration experience. So fun. Thanks for the great memories in seeing this very well done video.

@@loucostabile appreciate it Lou......subscribed and ready to enjoy. Thanks for keeping the legacy of these amazing cars from a long time fan of the era with gratitude. Now I have to run off in our 2019 ZO6 (7 speed) to pick up an early dinner for the family. I know, I know it should be a Challenger or Charger, if not a Demon. One day will get them all back. At least I have one muscle car even if its modern. In the meantime rock on!
My first car, I was 15 and I bought a two year old 68 Dart GTS, 340, I never knew they had a Custom GSS big block modified Dart. Thanks for posting this Dart.

Hi THRASH METAL & FUN RIFFS, Happy to read you enjoy the color of this car. Good news! Stay tuned as I have another GSS coming up soon, and a Super Bee with a Hemi and this color coming up too, Lou
Lou, your the best! Thanks for sending the link. Mr. Norm must have been one special crazy dude to put that much engine in such a small car. I’ve never seen one in person. Hope if I make it out to Carlisle one day I see one. I really love it! Thx again Lou!
Hi motorTranz , Happy to read this car / video bring back memories of your Grandmothers car :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
I freakin' love white interior. I'm crazy for the color green on a car, any shade. Damn cool car. What a job on the restoration. Great, great car and presentation.
Hi mrgrandprix fourspeed, Happy to receive a "WOW!" from you. Appreciate the kind words on the Channel and please share with your other Car Friends. Glad you're along for the ride, Lou
What a nice Dodge Dart. I never knew of this Dart. Bot did it sound great! Loved the owner too and his story of the car. Just a great guy and car Lou! Thanks for sharing this Lou!
They didn't. GTS was a 383 if you were paying attention. A 440 was put in it. Dodge Darts had a slant 6/225, 273 V8, 283 V8, or a 383 V8 depending on which model ✌
@@davidkastin4240 I was paying attention. I know it was a 383. I just never really saw a. GTS converted to a 440. My memories of the Dart was mostly the slant 6
Wow Lou, great find. Very rare. I saw a video on these cars with Mr norm interview. Awesome Mopar!. There was no disc brakes because the was no room for power brake boosters
@@loucostabile theres really nice GSS that comes to the old town car show here in kissimmee once in a while. You should see this one Lou. It's yellow and has custom bumble bee black stripes it s a 440. I have Some pics of it, but can't post it on here. If you wanna see it, tell me where to email it...
In 1989 I went to Volo, IL, to Volo Auto Sales (now Volo Auto Museum) to look at an AMX. Back then they were known for extra clean, numbers matching muscle cars, and other classic cars. On the end of a row of cars sat a black 1968 GSS Dart, absolutely beautiful. The sales paper said 440 motor, I wasn't familiar with the 68 GSS, but I think I would have bought it on the spot if it wasn't already sold. When I got home I asked my Mopar buddy about it and he said the 68 440 GSS's were sold by Mr Norm's Grand Spaulding Dodge. I currently own a Mr Norm 65 Coronet, 426 street wedge, 4 speed. By the way, couple months later I bought an AMX from an ad in an autotrader mag, I still have it.

What a knowledgeable owner. Filled in some information missing from the other GSS story. I thought his explanation of what it's like driving the car was honest and revealing.
Hi Bill, My wife asked, "If you videoed one, why do you need another one? (an honest question) and my reply is exactly what you shared, the stories will be different and every car adds information to the other. Lou
There's always a special place in my heart for the Dart. My grandmother had a '63 and a '74, friends, teachers and acquaintances had them. I love the base and high performance models, something for everyone. A psychic, who knows I love cars, said she sees me driving a classic old Dart someday. Let's hope that comes true. My dream car is a '62 Dart convertible like the one in "It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World". 😁
Hi Sean Sullivan, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Grandmothers & Friends & teachers car too :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
The Cowl induction set up is just Awesome... If you've ever driven one or been a passenger, with under Dash "summer doors" open, the air from the Cowl vents is smooth and constant, also helps keep the Front end stable, in my example, allowing Air to travel over the hood to force it down.. My Dart is lower than stock,, but also Stable at speeds over 110mph.. this Cowl intake modification always seemed like a good idea...
Hi At Zero, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge. Think you'll enjoy this video too, Lou ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fTftWq2Slww.html
Lou...this 1s off da hook, the whole spaulding story is 1 of my favorites in the industry. The B-motored cars were awesome, the RB cars rocketships. And I'm tellin ya if they're out there...Lou will find em....kutgw...bub.
What a great car,, my cousin Joe had a great '69 Dart with the"Leaning tower of power" was such a great car, thanks so much for sharing and as always"Howdy". Greg !!
Nice one Lou. Makes me miss my 66 Dart GT with factory air, 273 with headers and Daytona rims. Also the former owner put in 68 round side marker lights, yellow up front red and the back and that looked great and confused people ✌
Awesome car very nice this is one of the best mopars ever especially being from grand Spaulding awesome car this is beautiful you should be so proud you and your friends who done it to get the award from mr norm makes it all the better
I actually have the Revell kit of this dart. The kit is rare too as it's been out of production for 10 yrs. Even hairer, some of these darts came with special headers that had to exit thru the fender wells. I also have the Dick Landy dart too.
Lou, Lou, Lou That is absolutely awesome. I to own a Australia version of the Dart a 1970 VG 770 Hardtop Hemi 6 Valiant. Doing a tribute to Mr Norm. Got the stickers, got the number plate surrounds, got the bumblebee strip to put on & on day the 440 as well. My Hardtop is Artic White with a Black Vinyl Roof with a black 1968 Bumblebee strips. Couple more months & it will be finished so I hope you are in Australia to profile my Hardtop. Being a 770 Model it came with center console & tacho dash from the factory extremely rare option. You seem to find them Lou, & this is a gem absolutely a diamond of a Hardtop really enjoyed this episode. Keep the great videos coming. Your number 1 Fan in Australia Louis Kats from Melbourne Australia ☺ 👍
Awesome story. I just did a video on the history of Mr. Norm and Grand Spaulding Dodge on my channel. I cover these cars in the video. Never knew about the cowl induction on them. Never seen that in photos of them before. Would be amazing to have one of these...
Hi Vic's Garage, I saw your video and LOVED IT! Here is a clip with Mr. Norm I thought you'd enjoy. Lou ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-j57HfXMT41E.html
No way man!! i also have a video capturing the eclectic history of these beautiful automobiles! An old VHS capture from Muscle Car TV man! */w\METAL/w\*
Another great video Lou love watching your channel. When I was 16 I found one the same color but it was a GTS and had 383 and and a 4 speed manual. I wasnt able to buy it, it was all original and unrestored. At 16 I didn't have the money the guy wanted for it.

I've always wondered why many of the bare-bones super stock style muscle cars in the late 60's had front drum brakes when discs were available. I thought it was just for cost-cutting but now I know it's to avoid the brake drag encountered with discs.
Hi Diecast Channel Miniaturas de Veículos, Happy to read you have a "Black" one like this....and speaking of that...enjoy! Lou ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fTftWq2Slww.html
my coworker owns a 1969 dodge dart GTS factory m code 440 same color as that one, its been off the road for a few years and just got it fired up for the first time bout 3 months ago
Hi Will, Thanks for sharing. I see this one puffing away, and I saw the green interior, and it would have been good to feature the engine. Maybe your Friend car bring it to the Chrysler Nationals in Carlisle PA? If yes, we can video it there if it's an M Code, Lou
@@loucostabile thanks Lou, love the channel, man it needs so much work to get it drivable just around town let alone outta state, gentleman's 72 years old, also has a 67 dodge dart, a 72 swinger dart, and a 69 plymouth satellite, only car that runs is that 69 m code car, he just doesn't have the time to fix them but he does have every single nut and bolt for those cars
Very Kool factory engineering! For years back in the 80’s, I wanted to build a big block A body. Either a ‘68 Dart or a ‘71 Demon. I never got the car, and back then the only practical way to put one in was to use “elephant ears” motor mounts. There really wasn’t enough room for the 440 RB, and that’s why the factory only made automatic versions... no room for the z bar. Amazing that Hurst was able to shoehorn the big 440 in there. Beautiful car!
Hi drippinglass, Happy to read you appreciate the engineering on this car :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, and hope you're behind the wheel of that big block A Body soon, Lou

I believe that Norm Kraus aka Mr.Norm built one of these took it to Dodge who’s engineering team had formerly denied that this car could be built. There were some Chrysler big shots and Dodge employees ( those concerned) were red faced when Norm presented this beast. Grand Spaulding refers to their location the corner of Grand Ave and Spaulding on the n.w. side of Chicago. Should have seen their used car inventory. New or used could have bought a Dart at Grand Spaulding with a slant six too. BTW Nickey Chevrolet was bout ten minutes northwest of there.

He said the 440 was equipped with the 383 manifolds and oil pan. I wonder if he was referring to just the exhaust or the intake manifold because the RB is a taller engine and maybe hood clearance was an issue.
Has to be the exhaust manifolds, the RB intake manifolds are wider. I've owned both 383 & 440 manifolds. I currently own a Mr Norm 65 Coronet, 426 street wedge, 4 speed.
Pity they don’t have the head rests in the bucket seats . In 🇦🇺in our VF An VG valiant Hardtops had the pop up head rest which is the same body . Best motor was The 318 Fireball 2 barrel .in the VG model we also had the pacer 245 Hemi Hardtop same body again .

Drum brakes work 100% better if you cut the middle of the shoes to match the drum curve , top to bottom of the shoe surface . Instead of just the center contacting . I had no problems stoping my roadrunner .😊
Pops yellow 71 challenger RT n91 383 shaker was the 400/440 combo. Sold used “ 72 lot .. With a six pack adjustable outside 2 barrels .. and 4 speed …. Where it’s at today!?! Who knows. Purchased drunk sold in the same manner then in 81 .
