If you saw the preview to this, you will know that the replacement of the timing chain on the F-100 was much needed! Same process applies to 352, 360 and 390 FE engines.
Hopefully the new Fel-Pro gaskets and seals will also minimize the bulk of our oil leaks.
Parts and tools used:
Fel-Pro gasket set TCS 45167
Cloyes Timing set C-3029
OTC harmonic balancer puller/installer 4531

***Note that in this video the front cover seal is backwards! Make sure you install yours in the correct direction!*** 👍🏻

Love the old 360 FE. Had one in a '73 F-100 Ranger XLT w/ a T-19 tranny, posi-trac w/ 3.70 gears. 600 Holley on stock 390 intake, headers & dual glasspacks. Made a great mud truck for hunting trips.

That cam gear you took off is the OEM gear. They were aluminum with a nylon coating around the teeth. I suspect all the nylon got brittle & broke off. That probably why your chain was so loose.
@edbeeinnv
@edbeeinnv 7 месяцев назад
That is exactly what I was thinking. I suspect there would be some remnants of the nylon teeth in the oil pan.

I slip the timing cover on with the spacer/sleeve inside it already and then bolt it down. That way it's perfectly centered on the seal for a no leak fit.

Nice video! Overall, seems pretty simple to do a camshaft. I’m 18 and I’m soon going to be buying my first vehicle/truck that’s just like this one! Also, I subscribed 👍🏻

That’s exciting!!! Your first project is always a lot of fun and a great learning experience. These old trucks have some quirks and some strange designs, but they are pretty easy to work on overall. Thanks for watching and thanks for the sub… much appreciated! 👍🏻👍🏻

good video. would you agree that mostly all new timing sets single or double row now have that spacer added onto the backside of the sprocket eliminating the need for the "C" washer/spacer? changing mine out (Ford FE) for a new Melling timing set this week. Thanks for posting.
@whiskeycreekcustoms6296
@whiskeycreekcustoms6296 Год назад
All the ones I’ve looked at had the spacer built in. The Melling set should as well. Good luck with your project Tony! Thanks for watching! 👍🏻

The fuel pin looks pretty average to me...
@whiskeycreekcustoms6296
@whiskeycreekcustoms6296 2 года назад
It did look average until I really cleaned out the hole and it sunk in the full 0.280 Without the spacer, there was a chance it would have slipped at some point. Better to be safe than sorry! Thanks for watching Hunter! 👍🏻

i think that seals in backwards
@whiskeycreekcustoms6296
@whiskeycreekcustoms6296 2 года назад
You know what… you are 100% correct. I still wasn’t feeling great the day that I installed that seal, and apparently I had a complete brain fart. It’s not leaking at all, but I will indeed have to fix that. (I do have a spare gasket set anyways) I shoulda clued in when the crank sleeve was fighting me 🤦🏼‍♂️ Thanks for pointing that out, and thanks for watching 👍🏻
