Finally was able to get the garage warm enough to be comfortable working again. Got the JEGS limited slip carrier and axles installed! Feels great to get that done.

Thanks for watching! This was the most intimidating part of the entire build as I did have a bad axle on my 1969 GTO back in the day and it was before you could easily source parts and I didn't have any way to fix it. Was part of the reason I ended up selling that car back in 1990.

Good stuff man. I’m enjoying following along here. I’m gonna have to do this job on my firebird. Probably next winter. Will be my first time. A little nervous about it. But you made it look like it wasn’t too hard of a job to tackle. Good work bud!

Oh yeah… it’s freakin cold down here in Ohio too. I havnt been in the garage in a month. But I commandeered the spare bedroom in the house and have turned it into a car upholstery shop😁 (for as long as my wife will allow it 😬 contact cement for gluing the vinyl STINKS!)

My yoke came off and went back on miserably hard. Other than that, it would have been an easy job. I reused the ring and pinion along with the original spacer, so the pinion depth didn't need to be monkeyed with either.

I didn't want to start a "2nd" project, but my front seats need the upholstery updated also. Way too expensive to get it done. That should be a project for next winter. Are you planning on going to NoNameNationals? I was considering it, but Tennessee is a long ways from Minnesota.

@@DoItMyselfGarage right on. The upholstery has been a fun project, surprisingly! No plans for any car trips. At least not yet. Laser focus on trying to get er back in the road this spring/summer.

Don’t you need to put the backing plate on at the same time as the axle?
@DoItMyselfGarage

This wasn't a GTO axle. Has pressed on bearings with a plate that holds everything in place instead of the C-clips, so assembly was a little different.

@@DoItMyselfGarage GTO/Lemans/Tempest cars used the same axles. They have bolt in axles. The backing plates which hold the brakes need to be put on at the same time as you put the axle in. Other than that, I think you’re video is very helpful.

@@SedlakFamilyFun Thanks and appreciate the information! Wish I had an A Body 12 bolt axle, but this one is out of a Bonneville or Catalina, so finding the right bearings was a pain also. It came with the car and was in good shape, so decided to keep it.

Interesting stuff! Looked like the Jegs part number you used was for a chevy 8.2 but everything went together ok. They list a different part all together for the BOP and it's a lot more money. Not only that but it doesn't fit the same ratios. Did you accidentally find a BOP/Chevy hack? Nice work in any case.

Might have inadvertently. I just counted the splines and went from there. Entirely possible the insides of this axle were out of something else entirely. Never know after 50 years of people working on stuff.
