I love the 69 Camaro's with the RS front end. But there are some people out there that are just too stupid to own cars.
@eastcoastpalominocollector3970
CE is counter exchange just like mentioned. The terminology crate engine was not used back then. Like mentioned the engine went to the parts department, then to the shop. The engine is a correct period engine, but will never be numbers matching. Great find though.

We lost almost all the g-bodys and surely any and all the older stuff that people were holding on to !! then after it was said and done the money that people thought they made was put back in income tax and dealer fees ... and the interest made from the car loans was astronomical !!

Another cool find, destined to be restored to its original glory. It will sit in a museum never to see the road again. It will however make its way around the auction circuit to be purchased over and over again by wealthy collectors at CRAZY off the wall prices. What a great story...........L.O.L

I've too have had such automotive angst, so I believe I get what you are saying. However, there is a flip side, as you probably know, too. I had already produced a short movie on this subject, but the owner decided against it, so we are rethinking or I might need to start over with a new enthusiast.

Love that some people who know that they are never going to give the cars a better life finally make the decision to sell them. I have been restoring and working on old cars all my life and nothing kills me more than seeing these pieces of art rot in some ones backyard / barn or over crowded filed with garbage garage. I loved the video and thanks for taking the time to share with all of us. All the best Bill C.

I hate the fact that flippers find these, they dump fifty Grand into them and get a hundred and fifty out of them... if it were me and my family kept a car that long and only put 37,000 miles on it... I wouldn't let somebody else have the profit. That's just my opinion I wonder if the family knows what that car is worth restored?

My story, got my first 69 Z28 about 82 for the regular price of $2500.00. Had around 60K on the clock.The guy I bought it from told me the motor had been built buy Herman Chapman (had several small block chevy national records cars he had built engines for) about 10 K previously. I was a young buck in 82 and put it in my garage for a basic get it better than new resto. Did all suspension replacement mostly MOOG parts with big block front springs cut about 1 coil. New leafs with slightly more rate. New exhaust (it had headers already) kept them. Mostly ran it autocross and street drag, steering sucked for autocross(assholes and elbows) but was spanking the 70+ fire chickens. At 6000ft (bandimere speedway) I got a 13.8 at 98 MPH. That was spinning the street tires 1st, 2nd and half way through third. For 69 just amazing vehicle/ engineering. Thanks for the memories...........

Yes, and this is a real find. I started barn finds on post war cars with my 1991 article in Popular Hot Rodding magazine, followed by my monthly columns in Hot Rod Mustang, Mopar Muscle (no longer there), Muscle Car Review, Vette, and later Mustang Monthly (picking up where Hot Rod Mustang left off). I could tell you one story where I pitched a story to a very large magazine and instead of publishing my story, they tracked down names in my submitted story and wrote their own story. This was a huge barn find!!! Later, an even larger magazine took my name off another story and let their editor write the story (it was so big) and get credit - so sickening!!! However, I have met so many helpful people in the hobby that think of me when they find an old car and trust me with their information. One of these days, I'm gonna rise up. It has to happen.

Wow Jerry, You have been through a lot. Sounds like some experiences that I have had. Not in the same field as you but getting messed around by dishonest people. It is such a shame that there are people like this in the world that take advantage of another human just because they want the glory and or money. I don't know what your beliefs are, but I know that the word says they will reap what they sow. Some call it karma, but they will get what they deserve!!! Sounds like you are the kind of man that does not give up no matter what. I like that and encourage you to continue pursuing you passion and it will all come together for you soon!!! Ever since I subscribed to your RU-vid channel, I've had the feeling I knew your name from somewhere. Now I am sure I have read some of your writings in some of these magazines. I have had subscriptions to and have read these magazines since the late 60's. I just lost all of them in hurricane Harvey and it mad me sick to have to haul wheel barrow after wheel barrow load full of these magazines that I had since the 60's out to the dump. In the words of Jerry Heasley "I will rise up" above all obstacles!!! And I believe you will also!!! Thanks for the awesome videos, keep them coming!!!

Dealer drove the camshaft through the block with a hammer (?)... when you ask for the old parts they were to present them, especially back then... something fishy with the dealer there.
@thewriter2549
@thewriter2549 6 лет назад
No - nothing fishy. Yes, you could definitely get old parts if you were paying for the work. However, under warranty action, GM has to protect itself from further action on a warrantied part - the engine in this case. Right? That's probably why they drove the camshaft through the block with a hammer. They don't want to warranty it again. I don't believe this CEA block is a crate engine that anybody could have walked into a Chevy dealer and purchased back then. It was a replacement block and thus stamped (warranty not up yet). A regular customer would not get a replacement designation stamped block. That's why in this video we did not use the term "crate engine." Is this making sense? Don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to put down your comment. It is a very good observation from what you know. I'm asking for your expertise on this, as well. But first, read this forum for more information - www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=62.0 Then, let me know if you get what I'm saying or if I am in error.
@TheCanadianBubba

Good point on the needing to know that there would not be more than one claim per part # pretty handy code lists here (links on left and header as well) www.chevy-camaro.com/chevy-camaro-chevy-engine-suffix-codes.asp?group=2 On that page CE is used for all replacement engines, there is no mention of anything other than the CE designation, yet there it is on that tag. Was just meaning that was a pretty lame explanation from the dealer, would have been cool if they let him keep that pad with the stamp afterward as a keychain or something... then when the purists start snivelling about the original engine missing he could just let them see the fob.

@adamdavis2760
@adamdavis2760 4 года назад
I see both sides of the argument. While it's nice having original stuff just because it's rare you also want to go out and drive it and not worry about it. Can you honestly say if you had a original 37000 mile 69 Camaro you wouldn't be worried a little bit? With the prices these things go for these days I would much rather build my own and drive it and not have to worry about $150,000 in a grocery store parking lot...

I believe CE stands for complete engine, CEA is a fitted block (block, pistons rings and rods, but no crank or cam) CEB is a bare block only.
@brownsearnhardt88
@brownsearnhardt88 6 лет назад
These were warranty only replacement engines.
@thewriter2549
@thewriter2549 6 лет назад
Is this a guess or do you have a source for this information? I believe Counter Exchange is what CE stands for. Some warranty work, for example, does not require a complete engine, such as in this case where the heads are good and many other parts. I read CEA were the first 30,000 units and CEB second 30,000 units on a forum post.

Nice color/model combo. Don't recall seeing any/many like it. '69 Zs came with a pile of options, combos and colors (stripes, hoods, f/r spoilers, plastic bumpers, RS trim, vinyl roofs, fender pin stripes (does anyone have or recall this option?)...oh and one great option which was not visual but aural, was the factory chambered exhaust...my guess is it is pretty rare today, perhaps some custom replacements exist. (Then I searched online and found a couple... it is worth the search. This car with the 302, headers, cambered exhaust, and some deep gearing was an amazing sound.) My pals had a bunch of these cars back in the day... and they were all very different but... all very nice. This one is in sad shape from storage abuse...but it is a realistic genuine car that had a life and made some people happy many times. After being insulted under that pile of stuff, it's starting a new life for new people in the sun. Nice to see. Cool!!

Interesting car. I have had many 69 Z in the day. I believe I had one of the rarest Z ever made. RS[Z28 early car flat hood narrow spoiler absolutely loaded but had the ultra rare liquid tire chain option. Bought it in the 80`s for 1k after sitting for many years with 49k miles on it with engine and trans stolen. Re sold it a week later for 4k after taking some goodies off it for my other 72k Norwood car. Interestingly the rare Z was a Van Nuys car........not a LOS or NOR but a VN tag.

bunch of these old cars around Dayton Ohio. Thanks to barrett-jackson people think these old cars are worth a kings ransom! My uncle has a 1969 Shelby GT-500, no engine, trans or wheels it's been sitting on the ground for over 30 years, it has a tree growing through the floor and up through the windshield. He won't take less than $40,000... he saw one just like it go for more than $100,000 at barrett-jackson. He has 1959 Cadillac convertible that's in worse shape, lord knows what he wants for it.

Having owned a 69 Z/29 (Zed to us Canadians), I always get a kick out of the old stories from others. Light to light in a drag race and never beat, in Ohio? Anyone who raced in Ohio has lost a race one time or another. To beat a 428 cj mildly modified mustang with stock rear gearing as an example. That Z would need an aftermarket cam, dual carb option, 488 gearing with traction bars. Then the stickier tires win. Bless the chevy engineers for the 302 for the legend.

Crown Commando, you are "absolutely right" for a quarter miler. I will give you an example of street light to light. My twin bro had a 70 torino GT 429 SJC, C-6 trans, I can't remember the shift kit in it, a high 4:something in the rear with a dealer installed drag pack, one of those back door ford things and chevy did the same in those days. As Jerry says memory, you keep the good ones. That heavy Torino was a 13.0xx car all day long. My Zed 12.4xx - 12.9xx depending on temperature and 9k rpm, if we went heads up it took me almost 300 feet to catch him. With sticky tires not much beats the torque of the big blocks. But I can talk about my wee small block forever loved that car, hate Canadian rust.

It didn't stand for counter engine or crate exchange,it stood for Chevrolet Engine. The first character will designate the GM Division which produced the assembly. C=Chevrolet L=Oldsmobile K=Cadillac B=Buick P=Pontiac The second character will indicate the type of unit. E=Engine T=Transmission The number following the letter will designate the model year. 8=1968 9=1969 0=1970 1=1971 2=1972 The last 5 digits specify the service replacement unit sequence number. If the allotted series of unit sequence numbers is exhausted,the plant will start back at the beginning of allotted sequence numbers again,but this time prefixing it with the letter A to indicate that. EXAMPLE= CE8 A12345

My uncle owned a 69 hugger orange black stripe rs car brand new in 1969. He couldn't keep up the payments so my grandparents took them over. Everyone in the family got a kick out of them tooling around Raleigh N.C. in this camaro. Their last name was Hales if anyone knows of this car please let me know!!!!

That ain’t no Z/28. That’s a rare 69 rally sport Z /28 with endura bumper. I know I had one in Hugger orange. Had. : ( And yes CE stands for replacement block. Love that “original miles”. They’re always original guys. Trunk striped does not go all the way down so you know that’s a factory spoiler car like pace cars. When you see the stripe on the decklid then the spoiler was added at the factory. Just saying

I found a 69 Rally Sport nicer than this in a Georgia carport, guy wants 10k, I’m trying to confirm on the trim tag that it is a true Rally Sport but I’m not sure what code is supposed to be on it. Anybody know? The vin shows a V8 car. The car has the wiper solenoid, 4 speed and vacuum line next to the master cylinder.

He said that the yenko video was the last yenko that year. But parts were not there. Because they used it to complete other yenkos!!! Great papers. You have the last car this guy sold that year. It was fresh and clean. Also not actually a yenko. Again everyone watch his yenko video. You sound like a solid guy. And I am notttttttt a car expert!! But I smell shit in the air Everytime you find a super rare find!! Bravo on your ability yo promote these one offs!! Just not the same cars!!

Hey! Wanna sell that car? No! It's the center piece of my own private garbage dump I keep in my garage. UHhh, ok. What the hell is wrong with some people? The replacement engine story sounds like B.S. The warranty in 69 was one year or 12K miles. No way would Chevy replace the motor at 20K 4 years later.

I don't know why people want a hopped up 283lol a 327 4 speed would be faster and a 325 hp396 would be quicker,a warranty 4 years latter I don't think so there is at least 1 69 camaro warranty replacement motor and it got an LT1 so why in 73 would you get a 302 ?I don't believe there telling the whole story
@pmscalisi
@pmscalisi 3 года назад
That “hopped up” 283 was rated at 295HP. That was conservative to help with insurance rates which were astronomical on those cars. You saved 200 pounds just with the small block. I remember when my Dad loaned some cash to buy one of my 69 Z28 cars he made a deal that he would handle the cost if the car and I agreed to carry the insurance. Was I an idiot! It was almost 2000 a year (in 1974) insurance for a 19 year old to drive a vehicle like that. Dad got off cheap, the car was only 1000, I failed to see the humor 😂

in the condition that car is in,i'm going to guess 10-15k.Bringing out a guy to authenticate the car makes me think they paid too much.Cost to restore that car would be in the 50-60k range,easily.
