They did...but needed a 4.56 or 4.88 to come alive on thest. A crossram 3.73 Z was an absolute dog on the street was never more disappointed. COuld hardly spin the tires...car made ZERO torque. Gears headers a good tune they woke up big time.

Had a early '68 (FEB) and it was loaded. Had every option except spoilers. JL8 brakes. Got it in early '74 from Courtesy Chev in LA CAL. The only thing l changed was the shifter. I got a Hurst out of a "69 Camaro. A set of Hookers to the stock exaust and it was mild til I l put my foot into it. I usually never got out of 3rd because it had 373's in the 12bolt. It ran like a scalded dog. Never had a small block that ran so good. I drove it across the US on three occasions going to various USMC bases. '69/'85. Passed everything but gas stations. Beautiful. The '69 was nice but the '68 brought along large journal crank even though it was a 2 bolt main. RUNNER !!

@@gordocarbo You HAD to wind up those little 302's to get any power out of them. They were NOT designed for low end torque. With the camshaft profile they left the factory with, they were pure dogs below 3,000 RPM, but pulled like hell from around 3,500 RPM all the way to 7,000+ RPM. NOT a burnout or drag car. Pure road racer.

Beautiful Z/28. Seems to be way more dual quad, 4 wheel disc chambered exhaust 69's than were originally sold. All good if the correct parts are retro fitted. I bought a garnet red 69 Z in 1970 when I was a senior in high school. Kept it 21 years. It sounded great with Hedman Hustler racing headers and the original transverse muffler with the resonators removed. The dz 302s are a very special and unique engine.

@gregborneman5523
@gregborneman5523 Год назад
@@robertjackson5411 The chambered exhaust was a fairly common option. A high school classmate of mine had it on his '69 Z. The cross ram/2 four and 4 wheel disc brake options were MUCH more rare. These days about half the '69 Z/28s for sale have both. I hope the sellers are up front about originality.

Lots of clones unfortunately with hyd. cams to boot which is lame. USed to restore these cars for a living....a legit 302 or L89 wtih chambered exh is pure music. Uncle bought a new 68Z, blue n white. Id bother him to start it every time he came over, bugged him, irritated my parents lol. Traded it for a new orange shorty Dodge Van in the 70s when that craze came out broke my heart.

@@gordocarbo Even more lame is when someone puts a POS slushbox in them instead of the 4 speed. Maybe I'm just old and grumpy, but I get annoyed every time I see a first gen Camaro with Z/28 badges only to see an automatic trans shifter between the front seats because such a car doesn't deserve to wear those badges.

Original Crossram's were not an option in 68 or 69. They were available over the counter as a " heavy duty" part. Today, there are 100's of reproduction setups available. Real setups are very rare and should be authenticated by Jerry MacNeish. Same for lj8 break system, only a couple hundred were ever produced.

When I was 16, I stopped to look at a 68 camaro for sale. The guy was selling it because he had just gotten a 69 Z28, crossram 302 with a 4 speed. It was silver with black stripes and is still one of my favorite cars I've ever seen. Never got to hear that one. Couldn't afford the 68 either. I had a 68 Nova at the time. It was back in the early 90s. Thanks for adding a glorious sound to my memories.

I drag raced Ford 351 Clevelands for years while ago, they were High RPM screamers, then i went the Big Block Ford route, 460, then Stroked 521, the Bigger Engines have Way more Power down low, that really pushes you into the seat, that's really hard to beat, but i Will always love to hear a Cleveland turning well over 7500 rpms.
