Owned 2 69's, the chrome side "vents" are the giveaway, painted in 68, changed totally in 70 and 71-72 For me chevy designers got it all right in 69, super fun car to drive and own!
They didn't offer a 396 in 1969. There were 2 small block 350 variants and 4 different big block 427's. The 427's were the L36 the L36/L68 which was the same motor with a different carb setup (3x2bbl), the L71 and the L88.
