Carthopology brings back great memories of several era’s when life was simple and the evolution of the automobile was accelerating. Thank you for the entertaining history on many compelling makes and models which marked meaningful timeframes in our nation’s automotive history.

I had one. Fantastic little car that was economical and reliable. And it was even good in the snow up here in Canada

They were a lot of fun, but that suspension was VERY stiff and bumpy, and the power in the fast version (2000, twin Mikuni double-choke side-drafts) was very peaky, so you had to keep your foot in it; I have to say I preferred my TR6. but it showed Nissan that they were onto something, and the 240Z a couple of years later was a much better car. If I could have a 240Z convertible with the lovely TR6 woodgrain dashboard I'd be in heaven, but the Roadster with a 240Z engine and suspension would be pretty cool .

My grandmother found one of these cars and got it for me years ago, I don't know how rare they are but I feel lucky to have one

Lucky you! I hope you're able to drive and enjoy it! I think the vintage Japanese sports cars are on a longterm upswing in value. So your Grandmother had great instincts... Thanks for the comment !

I would look at what they go for on Hemmings.com. And also price them on Hagerty.com... They report recent auction prices. Don't forget to subscribe... it shows you support our work!

I❤️my ‘68 Datsun 1600. I purchased my rust bucket about 5 years ago(it was left languishing partly in the shade/sun for over 10 years, but the car did start) & slowly restoring it to my limited ability. It’s hella fun to drive. Also, it needs to be driven regularly to be at its best. But, it needs a professional to fully restore it to its original state. . Please help with finding a Datsun restoration shop in the greater Los Angeles area or anywhere in California. Thank you. Scribed 😎✌🏼

Hey Dennis, Best bet, find a Datsun car club nearby. Make a contact and get some recommendations on who does good restorations. If you attend their events you can see and hear about finished work for restored cars.

Curious how easy/hard the parts are to find to restore these cars. Came across a barn find of one in pretty bad shape.

I have heard that some parts can be expensive. I also understand that the basic engine is still manufactured by Nissan and is used for powering their forklifts. So I think the price is determined to some degree by where you search! Once the car is working, it is known to be highly dependable and inexpensive to own. Here's a website by a guy who documented a restoration of one: www.mydatsun.com Good Luck!

It also came in 2000 cc version. I owned one with a racing homologated engine. It was blindingly fast an would cruise at 135 mph all day.

I purchased a 1600 new in 1968. My wife and I drove it on our honeymoon to Canada from Massachusetts. I ended up working in Boston, and my 1600 really couldn't stand up to the daily stop & go commute, so I sold it. Lot's of great memories remain.
