Today the world witnessed the official Proclamation of King Charles III.
On 1 July 1969, the 20-year-old Prince was invested as the Prince of Wales by his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, in a ceremony at Caernarfon Castle in Wales.
To mark Charles III's official Proclamation as King, we share this coverage of his 1969 investiture. The King announced yesterday that his title of Prince of Wales will be passed to his son and heir, Prince William.

I recall watching this on TV at home in NYC. There was no way I was going to miss this; so for the first and only time I told a fib for my coming in later to work; I told my boss that I had a personal matter to attend to, which of course had a certain element of truth to it. It was truly a splendid installation ceremony. I am very pleased to have watched it again 54 years later and now The Prince of Wales is now King Charles III.

i wonder how much Welsh he can still remember! is it true that he went off the prepared speech and said his own thing when he spoke Welsh? tbh i only came to see this because i just watched The Crown episode where they depicted this exact occasion!

I hate to sound stupid but I guarantee you I'm not the only one.... I had no idea that Welsh people had their own language I thought they spoke Scottish English..... Sounds really cool though.... What's even dumber is that I speak four different languages... What a dope I am
