1969 Tamiya 1/25 Built Russian Medium Tank T-34 Type 85, Kit No. DT109-1200
After filming the Revell T-34, I realized I never posted Dad’s 1/25 Tamiya T-34 so here it is! Luckily, this model is in better shape than its Revell counterpart. 🙂 It is missing the piece of track on the front of the tank and has a little bit of decal wear but as far as I can tell everything else is present and accounted for.
Dad painted the Tamiya a weathered rust color because he read in an article that the T-34s were being built and released for the war so quickly that they didn’t even bother to paint them so the tanks were often covered in rust. He used Floquil model railroad paint and said he was pretty happy with the result. I actually filmed this twice because the first time through the phone camera I used didn’t show the color correctly. Second time was the charm! I hope you enjoy it.

Another excellent build. The rust colour actually looks a lot better than the Russian green. The model really stands out.

Your father did an excellent build on this kit; especially the rust patina weathering. I also heard that same story about Soviet T-34's going straight from the factory to the front lines without the usual overall 4B0 green paint. Your dad really made the point with this build! Speaking of weathering; are you sure the "decal wear" actually IS 'wear,' or is it part of your dad's excellent weathering job on this masterpiece? Also, is it possible that the lack of spare track (and pioneering tools like shovel, hatchet, saw, etc.,) is part of the idea your dad wanted to get across for this project? This really does look like a tank that was driven straight from the factory to the front with the idea in mind that its 'career' on the battlefield would most likely be a short one . . . . Thanks for sharing! 7th Like.

Thank you! I really like the color and the "why" behind it. I'll have to ask Dad if that's what he was trying for but my guess is that the parts have been lost and damaged due to time and possibly various cats and kids. 😉

@@vintagemilitarymodelkits I don't remember offhand if the T-34's at Stalingrad going from the factory to the front sans paint were of the "76" or "85" variety. (I want to say they were "76's.") but looking at your father's model, it doesn't look like anything had "broken-off" where it had been previously attached. I don't see any glue marks marring the finish where the spare track links on the bow and the pioneering tools on the side would have been attached. (You'll note that at 0:24, the V-shaped bracket on the hull below the turret for the two-man saw is empty, as well.) I have to think this was a decision made when the model was built. That said, the decals - albeit chipped at places - look a bit too neat and otherwise pristine for a rush job. I might even question of these legendary factory-to-front tanks wore any markings at all. Still, I think your dad did an excellent weathering job on this model, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of his finished work on your channel.

From 1/40 to 1/25 T-34 / 85 Another well made TAMIYA MODEL…… I think your father would really get into the 1/16 kits they’re making now …. Anyways, YOU HAVE MY LIKE 👍 VINTAGE MODELS ON CHRIS 🇺🇸

Hi Chris! Dad has watched some videos about the 1/16ths but his problem with the larger models was where do you store them? They definitely take up some room. :-) Have you made any 1/16 kits?
