1969.The Ventures with Trini Lopez Hawaii Five O-Light My Fire The Ventures are Don Wilson.Bob Bogle.Mel Taylor.Gerry McGee.John Durrill. 1969 video sure they looks so young but (very poor lip sync video)
Lopez w the boys very cool, I know many Latin American people are BIG Ventures fans too; Trini knew he had to "try to set the night on fire" (since Jose Feliciano beat him to it) & he couldn't borrow The Doors, so he got The Ventures (Doors' Robbie Krieger loves The Ventures. OMG Watch Don! :) During 5-0 Mel really goes to town on ghosting his own drum action too. Thank you for finding this!
Hi there Ventures of Trini Lopez Show, Mel and Bob, John Daryl And even if you play, I really nostalgic. I want to go back, if you are able to, but I put it closed to memories it. Precious video, thank you! Takashi

To my earlier comment-I love the Ventures! Trini Lopez is trying to be cool, but just failing miserably. The Ventures are cool. All in all a good clip, but Trini is outclassed!
@@weedsan21 Thanks. Must be John Drill. I wasn't familiar with him and he resembled Bruce Johnston so I thought maybe Johnston got mixed up with The Ventures for an appearance, but since The Ventures had a keyboardist at times that must be him. Anyway he resembles Johnston but doesn't' look exactly like him, so it was a guess on my part.
It's John Durrill, who left the Dallas, TX-by-way-of Durant, OK band The Five Americans before they broke up in 1969. He wrote "Dark Lady" for Cher, and "Misery and Gin" for Merle Haggard, and was, along with MIke Rabon, and Norm Ezell, part of the three-headed main songwriting team for the Five Americans.
Wow what an awkward period in time this was. It seems like everyone was way out of their elements. The Ventures trying to look like the Beatles and playing instruments that had nothing to do with their sound. Les Pauls, SG's and Hofner Bass is not the sound of the Ventures or Surf music. If you tried to play Ventures music with those instruments it would sound like a wedding band. They were "playing" those guitars to an album track that was recorded with all Mosrite guitars. The guitars weren't even plugged in and the Ventures looked ridiculous in those clothes and hair styles. As a big life long fan of Trini Lopez I have to say I am embarrassed for him on this one. Light My Fire has to be the absolute worst version I have ever heard. I am totally embarrassed for Trini and the Ventures both look like fools.
Hey Blackie, Those are the guitars that The Ventures were playing at the time, after they abandoned Mosrite. And, Hawaii Five-0 was a #4 hit for them. They didn't like being called a Surfing band, but they played a few surf hits, including this.. one of the greatest surf instro's ever. Nowadays, it's the only one they played that average people recognize.
