Rest in peace Senior Lopez🙏 Thank you for these unforgetable songs in my childhood. Just heard the news in the Netherlands 🇳🇱. I was 4 when "If i had a Hammer" when it was for months on the radio, and my dad was singing that song all the time. Thatswhy i remember it so good. My dad passed away 2 years ago,so the memories are here now. I am 61 now and i'm crying. The memories again...
The song was not written by either Ritchie Valens or Trini Lopez, La Bamba is a traditional Mexican folk song written long ago by an unknown author & was a dance from the Mexican colonial period. However give credit to Valens whose musical arrangement & recording of the song in 1958 made La Bamba into a Rock & Roll hit. Lopez recorded his version of the song in 1966.
What Harvey1954 said-it is a traditional wedding song and dance, popular in Veracruz: "Yo no soy marinero / Soy capitán" imitates a boast appropriate for a working-class young man in a harbor town at a wedding.
A sad day for music, the Unforgettable Brilliant Singer, Actor and Composer, died today at the age of 83 years old TRINI LOPEZ. . R. I. P My Eternal Idol.. Forever In My❤️
I don’t speak any foreign language other than where I’m from. (UK 🇬🇧) and this is the only foreign language I can speak and I don’t EVEN know what the lyrics even say but I still know the words (IN THIS LANGUAGE AS THEY SING 🎤) Guaranteed to hear this in Tenerife in an all inclusive hotel 🏨 with the entertainment team 😂😂😂😂 For us English speaking folks that have adored this song all our lives without EVEN knowing what we’re singing 🎧 🎵 This is the translated version of this song: The Bamba! To dance the Bamba, to dance the Bamba, one needs a bit of grace. A bit of grace for me, for you, 4 now come on, come on, now come on, come on, for you I'll be, for you I'll be, for you I'll be. I'm not a sailor, I'm not a sailor, I'm a captain. I'm a captain, I'm a captain. Bamba, bamba, bamba, bamba, bamba, bamba, bam... To dance the Bamba, to dance the Bamba, one needs a bit of grace. A bit of grace for me, for you, now come on, come on. Rrrraa-ha-haa... To dance the Bamba, to dance the Bamba, one needs a bit of grace. A bit of grace for me, for you, now come on, come on, now come on, come on, for you I'll be, for you I'll be, for you I'll be. Bamba, bamba, bamba, bamba, bamba, bamba...

Indeed it is a sad day for people who remember Trini Lopez. His partner/drummer Mickey Jones was a great musician as well as Trini. I knew Mickey personally and he also was a great man. Mickey taught me how to play drums when I was about 16 years old, by listening to Trini's albums. Its been a real treat to be aware of both Trini and Mickey in this lifetime. They are both sadly missed. Rest in peace my musician friend.

He was my daughter's godfather. He and one of best friends baptized my daughter 43 years ago. Invited us to his performance in Dallas and where they served dinner. He paid for all of us. We were ten enjoying dinner and his performance. The place was packed. That was in 1977. A great performer and very benevolent to his family and friends. Rip compadre. And may you be performing in heaven.
This was of the year 1963 and here in my country this song was a huge hit !! awesome , thanks and viva Trini Lopez and La Bamba !! best regards from Chile !!
My late father loved Trini Lopez and listened to his songs a lot in the 60s when I was just 6 or 7 years old. He had an LP and played the record regularly. We don't speak Spanish but it did not deter us from appreciating the music.
One of the few cassettes we had in our car growing up was of Trini Lopez. I could not understand the words but his music always made me happy. I will always remember those days driving to the beach on these tunes..
