Nice job videoing the door internals. I replaced the window regulators and glass hardware and it was a job working up inside that door. Lots of scrapes and scratches on my hands and arms working through those holes in the door.
Where was this video when I needed it 30 years ago?? LOL You did it the right way and we butchered our doors some what to be able to rebuild all of the linkages and handles. Great job as always Russ keep up the awesome work
all those parts bring back memories. my 77 doors were so bad.... you could've gotten in my car with a paperclip. I had the power windows manual locks and the mirror adjuster on the drivers door
I have issues with my '80 Trans Am passenger door. New motor doesnt seem to do it. Gets stuck and has problems moving. This helps a lot. Now im going to rebuild and clean the tracks. Thanks for doing this video.
That's awesome buddy. This will come in very handy for me. I ordered a kit of the clips and all and there are two types of clips in there, 4 of each. I will need to sort that out. Maybe they are for a different model.
This video is super useful to me!! Thanks so much for it! Would be nice to hear if anyone has any ideas on what fabric to use in those worn out support pieces
Thank you. I went ahead and used Velcro on the individual window guides. Seems to be a good replacement. I would like to find something better for the one on the front window track. Luckily these were decent shape.
Thanks a bunch man. As a younger guy, having a more experienced gentleman who has done this numerous times and can guide me through the steps is invaluable. Do you happen to have a video of it going back together?
they sell that felt anti rattle fuzzy felt material thru amazon, camaro central and many other places like Classic Industries. Not that it matters now this is a very old video but still great information for those needing it. I don't think you should ever save and reuse regulators. They are usually worn out and cannot be tightened properly. So always buy new ones in my opinion.
Love the details on these videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. I’ve got my drinker side window out on my 79 z28. How does a guy disassemble the roller mechanisms that are attached to the windows? The rollers are shot and need to be replaced.
Thank you. They make a couple versions of the tool used to remove them. Just make sure to soak them in PB Blaster for awhile. www.ebay.com/itm/New-GM-Cars-Window-Roller-Nut-Tool/350823298722?fits=Year%3A1981%7CModel%3ACamaro&hash=item51aeb2b6a2:g:CfAAAOSwuhhXVilU www.ebay.com/itm/64-81-all-GM-Models-Window-Glass-Retainer-Roller-Nut-Tool-Chevelle-Camaro-GTO/182178383389?fits=Year%3A1981%7CModel%3ACamaro&hash=item2a6aad861d:g:mIgAAOSwPSBfKZme
I am sorry I thought I subscribed to your channel some time ago but I didn't so I have subbed your channel today. The Last Camaro I worked on was my roommates 1967 Camaro. Doors don't seem to have changed too much since then. Great Video
Thanks Larry. Sometimes RU-vid does a subscriber flush and unsubscribes us. Glad to see you back. I was watching a video last night on truck doors from an 80's truck. Very similar also.
Should help use both out. The 72's are a little different, but I will make another vid showing a few small differences. It took me two evenings to film this and I could have had it apart in 15 mins. Going back together would have been a different story. lol ;)
Thanks Sam. It took several evenings to make this vid, where I could have had it done in about 20 mins, but I have already referenced back to it once for myself. lol
hello, how are you, I have great difficulty adjusting my windows, so as not to get water in and also close them when I'm inside the car, electric windows?
These windows are alot of work to get them adjusted properly. There shouls be some witness marks on the door frame to where the factory set them. I would use that as a baseline and make small adjustments from there
Thanks Hanson. I think they are very similar. I found a channel by Chris Craft when we were working on the wiper motors. He has one on a Chevelle but its 69-72. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cLGfPf8yx9s.html .
I have a 1970 Camaro and need new door glass, are all the brackets that connect directly to the glass removable and tranferable to the new glass? Or are some of them riveted on? Im just trying to figure out if I need to order parts besides the glass so I can do this in one day.. My doors are 100% rust free, even with the panels off I cannot see any rust at all.. Someone replaced all the felts but they didnt change the glass so its still all scratched..
Yes, everything should be transferable. Depending on the shape of the door glass rollers you may want to replace those. Also the door fuzzy pieces will most likely need to be restored.
@@DoubleRRestorations Thank you sir! I pulled them out and it was actually pretty simple.. I ordered the new glass and also ordered new felt. The rollers are in great shape so I wont need new ones.! Thanks for the video, it really helped with disassembly.. I cant believe my 50 year old doors still look like new on the inside..
Russ, Who do you suggest I buy new windows from? I see there are several dealers that sell them, but who do you think has the best fitting windows for the car?
Dirt2Mud, that's a tough one. I would call around to some of your local places first, just to see if they have any left over stock. I did this several years ago and was able to get several ppg pieces. I don't have any experience with the aftermarket glass, so I cant comment either way. Alot of guys of the forum recommend this company: www.autocityclassic.com/1970-1981-2-door-hardtop-12487/
I’m starting to get old paint and rust off my car. Should I sand blast, wire wheel, or use a die grinder? What would be best. It’s going to be a daily not a show car
Jason, it depends on the car itself and if it has rust. I usually use a da sander on the sheet metal. A sand blaster can be damaging to the outer sheet metal. I have used the blaster on the door shells and frame rails. Eastwood has some good pads for removing rust/paint.
Great video. Just what I need for my 72 Vega V8. I'm hoping you can point me in direction on a place to buy the hardware. I have searched and called everything and cannot find the internal parts to rebuild the door latches and handles completely. Maybe you have access...
I'm not really familiar with the Vega. I know chevy used alot of parts across many different makes. I get alot of parts through eBay and the camaro restoration companies.
That would be great to drive it to high school. You will be the coolest guy at the school. I bet you will have the only one in the parking lot. I hope the video helped.
The window crank on my dads 72 camaro is like snapping every time I push on it, it gets tight then pop and it is loose again almost like the gear is stripped, he is really mad help ASAP
Double R Restorations if you could can you do a video of adjusting it too, just got my 78 and the previous owner did not take car of it and park it under the tree. Did a bunch of hack jobs and all the window felts and trim mold are missing.I’m in the process of restoring it now.
Question i have a 76 camaro idk if the regulator is held with rivets or bolts but if there are rivits can replace were the rivits are with bolts to hold it in????
You should be able to drill out the holes at use bolts, just have to make sure that they wont interfere with the regulators operation. You could also weld some nuts onto the regulator, and use a short bolt.
I'm not sure I follow. If I show them in this video give me a time stamp. Are you asking about the door opening rod? Most everything I purchased has come from Camaro Central or NPD. Lately I have ordered alot of eBay due to free shipping.
