That brings back some memories. I need to find my picture of me driving that track for the historic nascar event in my AMC Matador. Gotta love Laguna Seca.
As a former owner of a '73 AMX 401 Javelin, and a former race driver, I really liked the way this driver handled Laguna Seca. Beautiful car and beautiful driving. Thanks
@@audieconrad8995 You betcha! My dad gave me his 63 Rambler Ambassador 880 w/327 V8 and positraction for my first car. When AMC came out with the Javelin and AMX in 68 I was hooked and somehow came up wih the bucks for a 70 AMX 390 4-speed "Go Package" w/ 3.73 posi. Penske and Donohue were my heroes with those Javelins. I loved rubbing Rambler Trans-Am victories in my buddies' faces (Mustang and Camaro owners). Besides my AMX was just as fast as a Boss 302 or Z28. HA!
@@beyond_the_infinite2098 oh man...a '70 Go-Pac...congratulations! The closest I came was when I graduated from college in '76 I factory ordered a 304 Hornet X with 3:15's. Not in the same league as your '70 but it was a good runner for the day - especially against Mustang II's 😄🤭
I thought by far the 1971-1974 AMC AMX's were the best looking "Pony" cars out there. Even though American Motors was a tiny company, they occasionally were able to slay the "Big Three" on the race tracks. Mark Donohue was very successful racing Javelins in Trans Am while Wally Booth was able to beat the best in Pro Stock as well. AMC engines were extremely durable too as my 1974 AMC Concord went almost 300,000 miles before becoming unviable economically to repair but the engine still ran perfectly the day it was scrapped out.
I hate to think just what they'll do if they blow engines. The Special Service Blocks that for the base of the Trans Am 304* engine have to be rare to non existent by now. * the engines used in the Trans Am series from 70 on were Special Service Blocks based on the 390/401 block with the 4.08 bore of the 460 and special cranks with a 2.906". In 68 & 69 they used 290s punched out to 3.845 to get up to the max displacement limit (boring was allowed destroying no, 70 SCCA allowed destroked engines)
You never know what you may find...Granted, this was about a decade ago, but my dad happened to ask a very avid AMC collector for leads on a 401...he said he was moving soon and needed to liquidate his collection, he happened to be the president of the AMO...My dad purchased a new in box factory 401 crankshaft, color coded bearings and all, as well as a bunch of parts that can be built into about 4 390s and 2 or 3 401s...Unfortunately that NIB 401 crank was ruined by a local Denver machine shop (long gone by now) and had to go .010" undersize as well as ruining a set of pistons and a fresh .010 over 401 block...Dont send your parts to hacks
Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station fuel pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.:-((
From everything I've read concerning fossil cars in the USA they're not being banned. Can't purchase new fossil cars by 2030. Here in CA we have rolling black outs due to antique grids. Not 30 Miles away we have Tijuana Baja Mexico where they're polluting forever. Unless all countries take drastic measures pollution will continue. Hopefully by 2030 electrical cars will be more reasonable.
@@richardirizarry6460 Sadly China wants to sell electric cars and lithium, all that combustion banning in the world is not about the environment, PRC dictates the end of use of all combustion cars worldwide. China told all politicians that they will stop business with underdeveloped countries that still allow CO2 emitting traffic aircrafts, ships or combustion based industry after 2030...I am sure USA and UK also will be forced by China into 100% electric traffic because today no industrialized country can afford sanctions by China.... China just rules the world...:-(
What do we just live in a world of fear question mark everything is about bad news day and night never any good news no one wants to fix what's broken the border is open and the Federal Reserve is corrupt and illegal and no one does a thing about it much less talk about it all of this Doom and Gloom is all there is never good news about the bad guys going to jail or getting killed or firing squad all of it
