In Dec. of 1969 I paid $3200. for mine. It didn't have air, rear window slats or the lay down rear seat, but the 351 Cleveland could run 100 to 120 mph on Interstate 40 for hours at a time, between Oklahoma City and Little Rock, Arkansas. The raised white letter polyglas tires were not great for drag racing, but held the road well in rain, when you were doing 80 to 100 mph.
@CalebsClassicCars

That's amazing $3200 for a 69 Mach 1! Must have been a better time to live. And 120 mph I didn't think it could go that fast!

@@CalebsClassicCars Actually, it was a 70 model that became available in Sept of 69. Ford said the 351C could do 131 mph, but once you buried the speedo at 120 you didn't know, for sure.

Cool! I sold my 71 Mach1 in 1985. I bought it when I was 16 and kept it three years, thinking I needed a new GT when I was 19, so I sold it for a down payment. I started looking for another 71 a few years ago and didn't find anything I liked for the money they were asking. Found one a few weeks ago with a 429 and I couldn't say no. Hope to start a full restoration this Fall.

The black stuff in your lift pump is commonly referred to as varnish. That’s what happens when you let fuel sit in the system for long periods of time. In my experience, if you have varnish in one part of your fuel system, then you will have varnish in all parts of your fuel system. Theoretically, you can wash the varnish out with some carb cleaner and compressed air but, it is typically easier and more cost effective to just buy a replacement fuel system.
@CalebsClassicCars
@CalebsClassicCars 2 года назад
Yeah after I saw that I thought I would have to replace all of it unfortunately
@jeremyeves2614
@jeremyeves2614 2 года назад
In the past, I have had luck with blowing out the fuel lines (they are kind of a pain in the neck to replace) with compressed air and some brake cleaner but, it takes a couple of tries. But with the fuel tank, I’ve spent more money on solvents and filters than it would have cost if I just bought a new fuel tank.
@CalebsClassicCars

Ok so its just fuel and spark so I would check fuel first make sure it's getting to the carb and if it is pull a spark plug and see if it's wet. If your fuel is getting to the cylinders but not starting its should smell like gasoline. And for spark check your points they may be dirty. Also check timing and see if the sparkplugs are dirty. Sometimes it's something very small that will cause it not to run.

@@CalebsClassicCars there is paraffin in the tank after many years of standing, this is the black stuff in the video. It clogs the fuel lines and the tank, you can spin the starter and nothing will be done. You have connected the fuel to the engine well from the bonnet. Sadly soon all combustion cars and trucks including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!! (BABVVEN & TEBBVEN & BEFVO laws)!!!

The black shit in your fuel pump is the diaphragm in side the pump. You need a new pump.

That’s not a Mach 1, it’s a coupe...M-1’s were all fast backs..

@@Steven-mj5mo Indeed a mach 1 has the turn indicators in the grille and has the stainless rocker panels like this one does

Yes you are correct that all true factory 1969-1973 Mach 1's only came in the fastback body style or "sportsroof" as Ford called them starting in 1969 but you may want to check your eyesight as this car is clearly a fastback body style as seen around the 13:20 time in the video. The only way to know for sure if it is a true 70 Mach 1 is by looking for the 05 in the 3rd and 4th digits of the VIN but it sure looks to be a true 70 Mach 1 and is definitely a fastback.
