I don't care how good the FF might be, i'll take the Cruiser over the FF any day.

With an LS3 I am betting it would not do bad at the track. I am wondering what its times would be

Probably gets good times on the strip but I wouldn't take it on corners even if it has the wheels and brakes for it.

Or a modified Subaru STI wagon. Modified versus modified helps bring the fight back to the original old vs. new battle.

That Oldsmobile, hands down, is the Family Cruiser. I mean come on. LS3 supercharged, could seat a family or 5 and has a crap ton of room in the back for groceries and other things. The FF is just for speed and nothing more..

burnoutgaming burnoutdude56 The oldsmobile was created for fuel economy, it probably makes about 14 or more, so it would count as a gas guzzler where the Ferarri has like 11 MPG because it's a V12....So your Ferrari isn't very economical either and have you ever sat in Oldsmobile seats. Oh my god are they comfy. Especially if it's a restoration (which is what that one is).
@JustJesseOfficial
@JustJesseOfficial 9 лет назад
burnoutgaming burnoutdude56 And how is it comfy? Comfortable for the 2 in the front maybe, not so much in the back.
@omgpk2133
@omgpk2133 9 лет назад
burnoutgaming burnoutdude56 I'm sorry, and this isn't meant to be rude but your 1 mpg figure is a little inaccurate. I have a camaro ss that weighs about 3750lbs without me in the car. It also has a heavily modified ls3. It gets roughly 28-30mpg on the highway and 17-19mpg in the city if I stay off the throttle. Nowadays fuel injection really helps mileage, the vista cruiser weighs about 4000lbs from the factory, granted it now has air ride and that adds weight, same with the brakes. But it also has wheels that aren't stock and are lighter, and that ls3 is all aluminum, not cast iron like the old days, so i would guess it's roughly the same weight as it came from the factory, and I still see that getting 27mpg+.
@ningen1980

Sorry. As a "family cruiser" the Ferrari can't, won't and will *NEVER* hold a candle to the Olds. Yes, it's faster, yes it's a Fezzer. Yes, it has 2 doors. And yes, it has back seats that won't hold a child large enough to not use a booster seat. Then, there's the "part time all-wheel drive" system. It's a weak kneed attempt, end story. Either you engineer AWD, or you half-ass RWD into FWD (as is the case of the FF). It's not a "family cruiser", it's a 2 seater that you can fit a baby in the back of. Plus it looks just as bad, if not *WORSE* than the Porsche Panamera (Elephant Car). The "styling" of the FF is an affront to the work of Pininfarina. The Olds, on the other hand, carries full back seats, timeless styling of the classic Cutlass (with the change to a "station wagon" layout), and it's a Cutlass wagon. Plus it offers smoother (if a bit unrefined) ride quality. It's a genuine laugh to drive when driven hard, perfectly comfortable and stable when driven safely. And it will likely get more looks from people when driven down the road. My vote is for the Vista Cruiser. It's just better from a daily driven standpoint.

And biased typically I still can't get over the fact that the Regal GNX from 2 weeks ago lost to a Chevelle. I think it's peculiar that a show sponsored by Hagerty, a company that sells classic car insurance, always has the classic car win. I know it's voted on but it's not like the results are ever posted before next weeks episode. Seems like a way to boost the amount of classic cars on the road to me.

Ferrari FF is not family car, it’s not even a wagon (or a shooting brake). Its just a fast, V12 hatchback. And it is not very good looking, anyone older than 8 could not get in the back, you can’t get a dog in the boot and being a Ferrari it’s quite likely to burn down anytime soon. You should get probably the very best all round production car of them all -the AUDI RS6 Avant. Good looking, fast, with amazing interior quality and space inside for your mates, dog, shopping, wardrobe and half a ton of concrete.

While it's obvious this video is for shits and giggles, the reality of owning a Ferrari is just not a realistic for 95% of people here in the U.S.. The insurance cost on such a car would match many home mortgages and besides that, 99% of other people on the road wouldn't have enough insurance coverage themselves should they ever total this Ferrari in a wreck. It's a beautiful car in it's own right, and I'm sure as capable as anything else on the road as far as performance numbers are concerned, but unless you are a seven figure bread winner, it's totally too much car for the majority of the population to enjoy it like it deserves to be enjoyed. The Vista Cruiser, while totally reworked to be enjoyed in a modern world, doesn't represent what most older 70s wagons really are. The cost of this Olds, as is, is probably north of $100,000 with ease and that's something is consider. Although the average Joe could probably screw together something similar in his garage for under $30K if they shop wisely and have talented hands. BTW, Matt obviously never went on a date to the Drive-In if this is the most fun he's ever had in a wagon LOL

There is something just wrong about a vintage Oldsmobile with anything other than an Olds engine. Factory stock could have been a 455 4 barrel - and there are upgrades for Olds engines and factory stock would have still been around 500 pound / feet of torque. The Vista cruiser is the winner here, but the best Vista Cruiser is the ultimate street sleeper - not this blinged out hack job.
@savagenomad5731
@savagenomad5731 6 лет назад
Alan Maier amen to that, but I always thought that the LS took some of the good stuff from the Oldsmobile motors, being a Chevrolet motor itself, back in the day, Oldsmobile was the canvas for their more powerful car customization. I have an Oldsmobile from when they were stuffing motors that the 1987 Grand National used, the Buick 3800 V6. I heard that if turbocharged, this engine is a damn "six gun" when it comes to 0-60 times.

Motortrend is mostly a US dominated automotive journalism group, meaning they focus on cars where you can buy or build here in the states. That's why their reviews on new or classic cars are predominantly stuff you get here, hence no Australian or UK right-hand drive cars.
@brandoncaldwell95
@brandoncaldwell95 9 лет назад
Motor trend is 85% USA cars. The other percentage is cars from European countries, china, Japan. The reason they don't show the other country's cars and history is due to you don't really find them here. Don't get me wrong, there are ppl that import them but it's rare.
@G0ML333
@G0ML333 9 лет назад
BRANDON CALDWELL most brands have dealerships all over the world, why would you have to import unless it's something like a old nissan skyline or something like that?
@brandoncaldwell95
@brandoncaldwell95 9 лет назад
G0ML3 sure most brands are but look at the chevy Colorado in the us via the on in the believe it's the Philippines, massively different. Same as ford they made rangers in the USA then when they created the new one they stopped producing it in the USA due to it being the size of the f150. The claim they didn't want it to compete with the sales of their #1 best selling truck so it will always be non USA now. Ford use to import f150s from China too but think they stopped due to the quality being poor. Then you get into the 1% ppl who want a Porsche, ferrari, Maserati, etc. They won't build a car anywhere else then from their 1 and only plant.
@AKhellbindeR
@AKhellbindeR 9 лет назад
G0ML3 Most brands do have dealers in every country, but there are many cars they only sell in certain parts of the world. Some might also be very rare and hard to find, in the case of exotics.

I get more sick of this every episode. I am by NO MEANS a fan of Ferrari by ANY STANDARD, but how can they even compare? The biggest issue I face is, why have a "generation gap" if the older car is extensively modified with modern parts? It ruins the whole point of the car being so much older, so there's no point in bitching over what's better. That's like arguing that a Civic SI is better than a GTI. It doesn't even compare, but throw your checkbook at the civic and of course it would be better than a standard GTI. I really just don't see the point in this at all.

@shadowdevil666 9 лет назад
Now now you won't make me believe that an old station wagon on air bags performs as good as the Ferrari. In a straight line maybe but roads also have corners. Secondly the looks: Park this Ferrari near to the cruiser and the cruiser just disappears. Thirdly the passion: Again, if there had to be a car company that scream passion with every car they ever made it's Ferrari. I mean they've even refused to make turbo cars just because the sound of the engine wouldn't be as great how's that for passion.

That's why you don't have a ferrari. Ferrari owner drive their cars just because they want to drive then, even the 2+2 FF, still just a driving experience for them, it have two seat because they want to share these experience with friends and family. If you drive a ferrari for a road trip you must have other ways to get to the destination, but you choose to drive, and the only thing you need to bring is your Credit Card and Check book, you can but any clothing with that.

@Beer_Dad1975
@Beer_Dad1975 9 лет назад
Agreed the Ferrari would be so far ahead on braking and handling. Also I suspect the FF would have the Oldsmobile by a long margin in a straight line too, at least from a dig - with 4wd and launch control I suspect it'd make the Oldie look like it was standing still over the first couple of hundred feet... I somewhat doubt that the wagon is a similar weight to the Ferrari also, since it's got all those airbag suspension components in it - that stuff is heavy - but maybe the extra low down torque from the supercharger would offset that. Also top speed, the Ferrari is good for a genuine 200mph, the wagon probably isn't going to top 150 and would feel pretty sketchy past 120 I'd bet. Affordability is nonsense too - the wagon would have cost a fortune to build, I don't think the price gap would be as much as they suggest. They didn't take safety into account either, which for me with a family would be important the Ferrari has all the modern safety features, the Olds has none at all. I think this comparison was very biased by one car being a US one and the other being from Italy.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Oldsmobile - it's super cool, but it's not vaguely in the same league as the FF - the only thing it has over the FF is space. The scores should have been reversed.

Performance, split the points!? That thing against the FF cannot post the same lap times! NO! Performance 5 points Ferrari. Collectibility, no one in the world would want that thing, except in some backwoods parts of America, in 30 years you can sell the Ferrari no matter what part of the world. Collectibility another 5 points Ferrari!...is collectibility a word?...yeah okay ease of ownership I give 4 points to the Olds. Looks! yeah 100 POINTS FERRARI FF!!! 110 vs 4 points, Ferrari wins!!!

fungamer2817 Do you pay for the name, yes, do they need a V12, no, and if we start looking at performance numbers then the FF will beat the Cruiser in a performance numbers game, and I'm not talking about just HP and TQ. But all of that is irrelevant because this are being compared as family hauler/cruisers not performance vehicles. I personally would still take the Cruiser even if you knocked the HP down to 300hp. Performance is irrelevant as long as it has enough to do the vehicles intended job.

The only reason to pick the Ferrari is to sell it, buy the Olds for yourself, a nice CTS-4 for the wife and still have enough to put your 2 kids (who you would NEVER let into the $300,000.00 Ferrari anyway) though collage.

Bizarre comparisons aside, the Oldsmobile gets my vote for one reason: the involuntary grin that spreads across my face every time they revved up that engine. The Ferrari's exhaust note *is* beautiful, but I can't deny the automatic smile!

@NcalBiker

Definitely the wagon. As for dependability, a well maintained Olds will outlive the skateboard FF by a long margin. Another point to consider is maintenance cost. As the Ferrari will cost in the neighborhood of $6 THOUSAND dollars for a standard tune up, including valve adjustment, the Olds, with the Lingenfelter engine will be a little more then the average modern Chevrolet. Not to mention, you can fit eight passengers in it as well!
@1997TL1000
@1997TL1000 7 лет назад
John Anderson Well actually not anymore with the FF starting in 2012 you get 7 years of maintenance free for the Ferrari of trouble free ownership. All you pay for is tires, brakes and windscreen wipers. The FF at 0-62 in 3.7 with a top speed of over 208 MPH and no mention of performance numbers for the Cruiser I gotta give the performance to the FF. I like the Cruiser it's a cool ride but it's not what Olds made when it came out, that plus all wheel drive and handling capabilities of the FF totally trump the Wagon. Now the loud pedal and the uniqueness of the Cruiser could give me a toss up on the looks category I still have to say that the FF comes out on top when you think about the fact that you don't pay for anything but gas and wearables on a new car, verses having to wrench on the Cruiser and wait for parts to arrive. Which in some cases is part of the fun but still at the end of the day one is a new car with warranty and is a Ferrari and the other is an old car from a dead manufacturer.🤷🏾‍♂️

I learned to drive in a 1959 Mercury Station Wagon and I've always liked the Olds Vista Cruiser. Back in the day, I think it was Hot Rod Magazine, did a build up of an Olds VC with the 455 engine and one of the things that blew them away was how fast it would corner. They freaked out about it being able to do 4 wheel drifts. Personally I'd vote for the Vista Cruiser mostly for that reason. But! I'd put a Duramax Diesel in it with compound turbos and an Allison 6 speed automatic. I do believe that set up would stomp the crap out of that Ferrari in the quarter mile and with proper suspension tuning would give it a run for it's money in a road coarse race, especially one with decent straightaways. And still cost less than a fifth the cost of the Ferrari. The Ford VS Ferrari LeMans issues of the late 60's cemented my antipathy towards Ferrari pretty solidly so I have to admit being biased.

I'd have to say the Oldsmobile. As much as the Ferrari is a modern,new, and a sophisticated car...The Olds to me is more of a real well rounded genuine car. It can't get any better than this....the passion, gutsy and rumble of the high output V8 under the hood makes me really excited cruising down with this car. It was meant how a car should be made.
