i am a duster fan.. got a 74 drag car. nice job, don't listen to all the haters. most people know just enough about cars to talk crap and 90 percent of them couldn't put a car together if they had to. nice car and nice job
Saw this video probably a year or so after you posted it and can remember this being the first time I ever thought a duster was cool (having already been a Mopar guy long before that)... And as luck would have it, after all this time I'm putting together a 318/3spd 71 Duster for my old man
Still got it, just did more to it. 1.6 Harland sharps , cut heads to 58cc making for 12.7:1 . Twin disc clutch , and flowed the heads and intake out as far they can go. Thanks for all the great comments . New vids coming
Very nice vid ! Thanks for the cruise, the sound, the landscape, the hard launches, the quality, and the ve.....omg I underwear are....ugh...aaaarghhh !! Kidding, very nice thanks for posting ! I used to have a 1972 duster and loved it but this one really kicks ass !
in 1977-78 BOB GLIDDEN proved to the world the value of the LA motor,9500 rpm pulls to the tune of NHRA pro stock champion-destroked to 304 cubics kicked all asses, just alittle info on MOPAR fact
this car is sick,my dad has a 69 dart with a 360 i keep telling em to stroke it to 408,right now its mild for draggin and runs 11.60s which aint bad for not doin much to it,my bros 68 gtx runs 9,80s with indy heads,i love your car it sounds great, nice video
That was absolutely the COOLEST EVER PERSPECTIVE THAT I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED HERE ON YOU TUBE. Technology is so cool. Your LH quarter panel mounted camcorder's resolution was absolutely amazing too. However, not nearly as amazing as your restraint with your right foot!!!!
4 inch crank, and special pistons. i got a whole kit from SCAT, i got the forged crank, h beam rods and flat top forged pistons for about 2 grand, then had the balancing fine tuned
thanks man. Its a Comp hydraulic roller, its custom ground. i called and talked to a guy for about an hour about the car and all the specs. they did a great job for me, its got good torque, great high rpm power and cruising speed is pretty good. its right around 550 lift and i think its about 278/295 duration with a 108 centerline.
Hey for whoever is reading this I am 12 and my dad just got a similar mopar but it is yellow it has a 408 4 speed car that was a 360 4 speed when it started life but my Dad’s friend’s dad bought in 82 and bored and stroked it to a 408 but passed away when the engine had only 180 miles on it and had redone the suspension on it to. It had sat for 20 years but than my dad’s friend gave it to my dad for $5,500 which is basically how much the engine is worth
yeah sorry the car was warming up, im gonna make some new ones now that the weather is good here and the motor is dialed in better. now that shes loosened up a bit it turns about 7800 rpm
well its tough to hold back but I have had the car for some time so iv had my fun but keep an eye on my channel im gonna be doing a new one shortly with a little more action. this was just the test for my camera
i almost got to purchase a 72 demon this past week, i was planning on a 408 with a T56 mated to it via the new housing adapters. i recon such a combo will unleash a hurtin' on the new "mopars"
harland sharps are very good, but i would save the money and get crane golds or comp pro magnums, i think the cranes around 375 and the comps about 425. check out hughes engines they came out with a set of theyre own that are supposed to be quite good. main reason i went with crane is because the tip on the valve stem is a bushed roller not a needle bearing. if a needle bearing tip goes out it could get into everything quick.
i got my engine it was in a 65 valiant its a 408 i belive and it ran 11.7s on 360 smog heads with a port and polish so if you have edlebrocks you may very well hit low 11s
@ackauto70 awsome i need to get one for my duster but its getting restored at the moment. im just hopin for 12 my first time out with it im used to fwd 4 bangers so power isnt something im used to lol
they're 275 mickey thompson drag radials and yes it is about time to make a few passes with it. it went 12.7 at 110 with the old 340, hopin for mid 11's with the 408
It should hit that speed and ET. Back in the 70's I had a Super Stock 71 Duster 340. It was the AHRA National record holder. It ran 11.55 @ 121 mph. Auto with 9" J converter. ForgeTrue pistons. Cam Dynamics roller. 5.13 gears and 11" slicks. Wish I still had it! Bought it for $3 grand and sold for $4 grand in 1978. 740 original miles on the body!!! She was sweet!! Butterscotch paint. I still have a 71 Demon 340, 4 speed, Hemi Orange. 14, 200 original miles!! 95% stock. Miss that Duster though!
that's awesome man, I hope all is well there! I have a lot of money in the bottom end of this engine and also some port work on the heads and intake manifold, with a custom built 850 holley carb with annualar boosters on 104 octane the motor made 540 hp around 6000rpm and 515 tq around 4000. it works very nice and is not afraid of 8000rpm! what times does your run at the track? I barely get to run mine
Nice car. I have a '71 Dart - the same 69 U.S. -, (originally with 318-V8, 2bbl), and I'll put the my new 408-V8 engine (360 block, Edelbrock heads, hydraulic cam, 825cfm Carb). The result was 470 hp @ 5800 rpm's and 510 Lbs @ 4100 rpm. I hope it is good. What is the power of your engine? Hug direct from Brazil...
wow, they went up alot. i swear i only paid around 375 but that was about 4 years ago. mine are only 1.5, 1.6 is good if you want a little more valve lift from your cam shaft. im going to be going to 1.6 shortly ; with a few other changes. if you do go 1.6 make sure you have room in the valve covers, regular steel ones wont clear, most cast ones do, i have fabricated one from ebay, they look great and have lots of room. check out the hughes rockers and theyre billet hold downs for the shafts
the car is very nice and works great, it was also a cold start and i dont drive my car like a 17 year old because i am not a 17 year old. its also built to go in a straight line fast and most of my roads are only straight for like 100 feet. by the way i checked your videos and you have really nice cars man (sarcasm)
yeah im sure professianly driven it would go 11 flat. i barely ever get to the track and i dont launch hard at all because the 4 speed and drive shaft are still original units. a dynatech drive shaft is coming very soon and then ill let her hook at higher rpm's
during this video they were pretty much out of the box, first thing i did to them was ground the valve seat area down becuase they are huge from edelbrock, i also blended the valve seat into the head andtouched up very little to the bowl areas. the motor is back apart now just so i can shave them down to 60cc and finish the bowl area and blend the intake runners to my intake. they are a great head from factory for the dollar but need alot of work if your doin anything over 450hp
Hey man, nice Duster! My first car was a 70’ Duster 340 and I still have it. It’s all torn down awaiting restoration at the moment. Do you have a site or a link to detailing your built? Seems like yours setup really nicely.
you know its funny, i've had the car since i was 17 and it was a stock 340, ive only ever got one ticket for no inspection. and yet i've had tickets in my parents mini van, my moms toyota truck and my dads jag, kinda lame haha
Thanks man, the motor works really great, has a nice snap to it yet very driveable. im running the original 391 gears in the car yet and i love them. im actually pulling it back apart right now because the clutch went out its first time back to the track, but the went 11.50 at 118 with it slipping bad in 3rd and 4th. i also plan on doing some head work and either 1.6 rockers or just a bigger lift camshaft, then going for 10's in the spring
cost, with indy heads you needs theyre intake and rocker arms. how ever those will be my next set of heads , they are far superior to any other head for the small blocks but its 3500 for the basic package vs 1500 for edelbrocks. with port work you can get a lot from an edelbrock but if your looking to make like 600 hp or more , go with the indys. im workin on an r3 block now that will be 422 inches with indy heads, im hoping for 700 horse that's street friendly
i dont have a site or anything but im always willing to answer questions. i have done alot to this car, pretty much top to bottom other than paint. if you need any advice let me know
mr.keith W test video with the new go pro, everyone in town knows this car, id rather not put anything to incriminating online. Car has seen 150 more then once right on the street in my small town
mr.keith W talk to him when you can drive a car that you have had since he was 17 so maybe you should keep it to yourself and I no a kid with same last name
