Cars of today just don’t have character like those of yesteryear. Lord take me back, please!

What I like is how people have these cars and they aren't afraid to actually drive them. They're meant to be driven, not live their lives on a lift or trailer.

The "Six Pack" was a great motor. You could cruise around town and save gas because you would only be using 2 barrels. BUT, when you wanted to punch the gas, all 6 barrels would open up and you could FLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Strangely I don't care for rag-tops, the Goat Judge is not one of all time favs, but I dig the heck out of Road Runners and GTXs.

juan cisterne I kinda agree with you, but! Now that I'm an old fart, driving my Mustang GT conv. I kinda like it more today, it makes the car a little different when driving it changes it up putting the top down.

A 1969 hemi convertible with two four barrel carbs did 150 mph. I don't remember the magazine of the time I read that in. I was with my father, who was driving, in his 1970 383 Magnum Road Runner going 135 mph. on a two lane road. I could tell the front end was getting light. I don't think he even had a seat belt on, but I had mine on, including the shoulder belt, which was normally stowed above the side window. I've had my 1969 Chevelle SS 396 in the air at 120 mph, on MN-1 north of Finland, MN but I've never driven anything 135 mph.

It's funny, I live in the Boston area, the winter kills cars, I've had so many cars, most regular beaters, 1971 cuda 318, red/ white int. I sold in in 1978 for 500 bucks, nobody wanted them, now I see huge prices, I love these cars, but if your like me I need to drive everyday, it'd be nice to pick a car and drive it once a week, but my world doesn't work that way, cool cars though.

I'm glad I saw this Roadrunner because back in 1970 a local Mall had several new cars on display for that model year and I know I saw the Roadrunner dust trail run right down the side which made me laugh as a fan of the TV show and thinking it was cool on a car . The one I saw was a metallic kid of rootbeer bronze in that lighting , I approached the car from the rear and the tail lights look unique , the inside was black and had the pistol grip shift . I don't remember a rear spoiler but I did notice the hood strip in black and those rims with a outer chrome ring but I thought the tires had larger white lettering, but that grille looked mean as i saw the front area . The car was next to a tiny Mazda Rx-3 miser with the rotary engine about the size of a medium size beach ball and the manual shift with rubber floor covering like a taxi . I also saw the new GM cars shipped from a storage area on trucks to the premier showing for the 1970 year if i remember right, but a Red GTO with Black interior looked nice and when it was driven onto the truck with the door open I saw a small steering wheel that looked like thick sponge and the horn was about a 6 inch round disk in the center like a racing car style . A Corvette was the popular car , but it was loaded last with its nose upward to clear the bottom cars roof , but when the truck pulled away quickly we saw gas pour down the duck tail and run onto the truck of the car below. Those cars had a unique New-car smell that is unlike the ones today .

According to the GTO literature there were 3 steering wheels . Standard 3 spoke, brushed metal 3 spoke and a racing style 4 spoke . Not sure if he Judge had just 2 on the 1970.

Dennis commented on the lines the nice white top created on the Road Runner, but I always thought Chrysler had the ugliest convertible roof lines. GM had the slickest convertible roof lines and Ford was next. Chrysler was known for solid engineering and poor build quality.

I could never understand why the Judge was so popular because as far as GTO's go it's an ugly car. The Roadrunner however is one sweet ride.
@Dogboy1960
@Dogboy1960 9 лет назад
buster20010 Today it's EASY to prefer the Road Runner because it's so much more rare. But make no mistake.....in 1970 nobody was thinking about future values or how rare these cars might be off in the future. The GTO featured here vs the Road Runner was a comparison that would leave you with little to debate. The GTO was just the far easier/better car to own for the life of a car loan.
@Dogboy1960
@Dogboy1960 8 лет назад
+brian sapperstein You speak as if "fastest" was the ONLY consideration for buyers. If that had been true there would be a lot more Hemi Darts and COPO Novas with 427s originally sold and still with us today. Fact is people bought cars back in the day with many of the same thoughts in mind they do today. Speed in the 1/4 mile is a single consideration that was lower on the list than you want to believe. The GTO was simply the better car to live with for the life of a car loan. More comfortable and more standard luxury vs the Road Runner. The Road Runners are nice but they were a value buy.......we don't look at these cars today as original buyers did when they were new.
@Dogboy1960
@Dogboy1960 8 лет назад
+Dogboy1960 .......and don't even get me started on Dusters or Demons.......both extremely Spartan transportation......cars most often sold with no options at all and slant 6 motors. Grocery getters for the value driven crowd with a much thinner wallet......very different buyer than the person who'd pay up for a GTO. Don't get me wrong though.....if all you wanted to go fast in the 1/4 mile......For a Race Car only? .small car/bIg motor is the way to go......but is that really the car you want to drive to work and get caught in traffic each day for the life of a car loan? Probably not if something nicer is within your financial reach.

+brian sapperstein Um....don't be so sure Brian. I've always been a Chevy guy but I saw an awful lot of all the Chryslers first hand at the drags, Cayuga, Ontario, and on the street in the 1970s........The bigger cars the Hemi and 440s were most often installed in.....did usually lose to the smaller cars 340s were most often seen in. If you were at the drags or on the street and you didn't know the cars lining up beyond the engine and body style.........you weren't making the smart bet if you were picking the Hemi or 440 Charger to beat the 340 Dart or Duster.
@jamesmiller5272
@jamesmiller5272 7 лет назад
i agree,this guy don;t know what he is talking about,that being said the 440 and 383 would run with the Hemi. The parts to hop them up was much more available. I had 69 and 70 roadrunners very fast.

the paint work was ugly on all dodges and a 1967 chevy 2 could blow the doors off any dodges any day. dodges sounded good but chevys won the races over seventy five percent of the time. proven fact just look it up.
