The good old days of San Jose Speedway East San Jose Tully Road after the speedway closed San Jose wasn't the same anymore spent a lot of Saturday nights Coca-Cola linguica french fries as a kid growing up it was little league Saturday mornings San Jose Speedway Saturday night glad that I was born and raised in San Jose and was able to go hang out with friends
My Dad use to bring me there in the late 80's. Quick Nick and Rod Spencer battles. After the race I remember my Dad letting me choose one wooden car model of one of the racers. Sweet memories.
My Uncle Rick Snowden, god rest his soul, used to go to the races with his 2 kids damion and janee. i started goiong with them and had so much fun. loved the rivalry of Nick Rescino and the Sargent guy. .Also Kaeding was great . watching the old man go around turn 4 with him and Sargent neck and neck when suddenly they both collide. Mr.Kaeding went up on to the fence and his super mod got stuck their. it was amazing to watch that great race.
Lived down the street and will never forget the roar of those cars! My dad worked with Howard Kaeding so I was a fan. Will never forget ridding my bicycle over to the track and seeing where the bulldozer took out turns 1 & 2 down the middle. Still miss the old speedway.
i grew up at the old track.nothing as bought more great memories. sargents are my all time favorites, starting with the old man ,down to marshall II. mike was the number one car builder and the only one from our track to be on open wheel mag. cover 4 times . i was there that night when his car melted to the ground and iwas there when "crispy critter" was rolled out. i've seen him and his grew swap a motor in the infield and go on to win.and a personal note i miss mitch too. fred
I used to go with family when i was a baby, my grandparents owned those old ambulances, so I was pretty much born into it. I have all the old wooden sprint cars they used to sell at the track. Still have the original Kaeding and Sargent picture shirt pins and programs.
How good is this? I wish I could have visited this venue and seen these Calfornian Super Modifieds at the height of their popularity. Thank you Ken Scruton for preserving this important history. "I heard it in a love song" by the Marshall Tucker Band. Great album
