My dad bought this exact model brand new...I was 6 years old in 1970 and was in complete awe of how big and powerful it was. He used to tie off a large inner tube and drag us all through the snow in the winter!
when I was a kid , my uncle had one of these only it was the 175cc version, green tank.. he barely ever used it but had it on a rack behind his winnebago, kind of as a way to go get help if the rv ever broke down...I had always hoped he would have given it to me but never happened... that 250 here sounds so tight and fresh, crispy tight!
My dad brought one of 1970 models at a car auction in Jacksonville Fla in 1983 for $150.00 it was stripped of its lights and had a big knobby tire . It wasthe best all around bike I ever had great in the woods here where I live wish I still had it .
Love me some Yamaha 250 Enduro Ken. every guy I knew in high school in the early 70s either had a 250 Enduro or wished they had a 250 Enduro probably the best trail bike ever made and that red who won you've got there Ken is gorgeous. Love those classic Yamahas.
When stationed in Okinawa in 1970 as a helicopter pilot we ferried damaged CH-46s to Japan for Overhaul. We flew rebuilt ones back to Okinawa -once with 2 enduro 250s in the back. Two of us road them around the tank trails in the Northern training area. When I left japan at the end of my tour I shipped Yamaha 360 home. It was too muv Ch bike for me sobI sold it before I killed myself on it. This 250 is beautiful and the spitting image of mine from 53 years ago.
A clean used 1970 Yamaha DT1 250 Enduro just like this was my first motorcycle and I did not have a car and I rode it through one Winter. I bought it as a trade-in at Strong's Volkswagen in Salt Lake City, Utah. It was a fun reliable ride. I sold it after a year to buy my second motorcycle which was a 1971 Honda CL350 Scrambler. The guy I sold the DT1 to turned it into a dirt bike. Sad.
I hope to make it out To unadilla I live in Binghamton 30 min away Next time you come and would love to make it out and see your museum/shop I'm a younger guy but I grew up on ossa s yamaha DT 250 maico/ matar hodoka BSA penton hell u know all the names but it's a shame I have a family member that has at least 40 bikes crammed in a basement and he wonte let me save any 90% ran when they went down there
