The Acoustic 220 was a bass amp head produced in the 1970s (This particular one dates to 1978). Despite being intended for use with a bass, it actually sounds great with guitar as well and can achieve some super thick stoner/doom tones. For this video I'll be running the Acoustic with my 1978 V4 Op-Amp Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi, ProCo Rat and EarthQuaker Devices Acapulco Gold.
Signal chain in order: HH Strat (C# Standard Tuning) + Pedals + Acoustic 220 + Traynor YGC-412 (Eminence Cannabis Rex Speakers) + Shure SM57 + PreSonus Audio Box USB 96. Reverb is from the DAW.

Love seeing underappreciated amps and gear throwing down the DOO)))))M

I really hope they stay as unknown as they are before the gear hipsters get their hands on them and drive the prices to obnoxious heights

Thanks for demos with *riffs* m8 - this is the kind of rhythm playing that nobody bothers showing. You’re not comping like a jazz guy, you’re not strumming like a folk guy, you’re playing riffs. A lot of guys can’t play riffs with a straight face, and they can’t get any joy out of playing riffs either. All they wanna do is weedle weedle weedle wee. What a sad affair. Well at least they have their magazine columns and cruise ship gigs. We have riffs and underrated vintage amps. Cheers.

Love these amps. I've got a 220 and 124. We should buy them all before people got into it...

Sounds great! I've been trying to get some good tones out of mine with a bunch of different pedals, but I can't get rid of the nasty solid state overdriven tone. Do you remember your amp settings?
@calebandresen
@calebandresen Месяц назад
It's been a long time since I did this, but if I had to guess I'd say I probably had the bass and mids boosted quite a bit with the treble turned down slightly.

Nice playing and cool sound! There’s a preamp output on this amp on the back, do you know if the sound of this amp actually comes from the preamp? I’m wondering if recording it from the preamp output (without cranking it up) would give the real sound of the amp? Thanks!

I own the next generation when they went with knobs for EQ @ 100 watts and that amp SUCKED when it came to adjusting the EQ. it's ture what they say that this model was the BEST as far as EQ adjustment. Can you imagine if Peavey did that to the Mark III or IV's amps changing the slider to the knobs. If I ever find this model that has the sliders for EQ its mine. Best Acoustic amp ever.

I'm expecting one these I ordered anyday now. I bet some Eyehategod would sound epic on this. what tuning were you in btw?

What speakers were you using? I have an acoustic 120 head that I've been using with an acoustic 204 cab filled with fane f70s and Celestion g12-35l speakers. Absolutely awesome combo.

I used Eminence C Rex speakers in a Traynor 4x12 for this recording.

Are these amps crazy loud? I had a 134 that was amazing but it was loud to the point of barely being usable (like you can’t turn above 3 without overpowering a band).
@calebandresen
@calebandresen 2 года назад
Yeah, they’re pretty loud amps. Definitely can see how it would be easy to be too much for some gigs.

they were originally design as concert amps. they’re not met for small gigs

Holy shit, this sounds awesome with the op amp muff. Rat and Acapulco Gold sound great too. This was with the amp EQ all flat?

As I recall the mids and bass were boosted quite a bit, treble boosted slightly.
@TheChadPad
@TheChadPad 2 года назад
So you’re actually clipping the amp itself too? Or is this only the pedal distortion?
@calebandresen
@calebandresen 2 года назад
All the distortion is coming from the pedals here. You have to really crank this amp to get it to clip naturally.

do you know if the acc 120 sounds the same?
@calebandresen
@calebandresen 3 года назад
I’m not 100% sure, but I think the main difference between the two is the power amp stage. You should be able to achieve similar results with the 120.
