WAAAY late to the convo but just seeing this. Great sounding amp but better step into the next room if you want to come near cranking it with super humbuckers in a SG!!
I bought the Companion when it first came out. About a month later, I bought the VTM 120 with 4X12 Celestion cab. I loved the companion. I had it up to about 8 years ago and lost it in a fire soon after a separation after 18 years. When it rains, it pours. No insurance, either. I miss it. My first amp. 😢 I still have the VTM. it might have been used 4-6 hours? Still has the inspection tag on the cab. 😅
Hi mate, Greetings from Australia. Great demos you have here! I've just picked up a mkIV and want to connect it to my scarlett solo. Do i just connect a cable from the line out on the amp into the instrument input on the interface? Cheers!
@@andyfraserfan9940 Thanks! I don’t know much about running amps directly to an interface, but from what I understand you can run any “line out” from an amp to any line-level input. I’m not sure if the Solo’s instrument input is line-level or not though.
Sounds great! I've been trying to get some good tones out of mine with a bunch of different pedals, but I can't get rid of the nasty solid state overdriven tone. Do you remember your amp settings?
It's been a long time since I did this, but if I had to guess I'd say I probably had the bass and mids boosted quite a bit with the treble turned down slightly.
I bought mine in 1982. I've had for over 40years. I'm looking at it as I type this. lol It plays as good as ever. Just keep your pots clean. Just now getting broke in. Scorpion still works too. lol
I have this amp. It’s amazing. I got it back in the late 80s new with a 15 inch black widow speaker cab. Would love to see more videos on this amp and how it could be used. Still not sure what the crossover knob does. 😅
I picked up an Audition chorus 208 recently and the first thing i did was rig up some speaker wire and 1/4" plugs and ran it into a stereo 412MS loaded with g12k85s. This is what it's all about... Love your demos. Love the riffs. Simple yet creative, and always inspiring!
I have two. I prefer playing guitar through bass amps and have so for years. Not to be loud but instead to be sonic. The graphic eq is a big plus with the right speaker cab configuration.
Awesome demo, dude 😎🤘🏻🎸 a friend of mine owns this amp and it sounds phenomenal. We performed with this amp at open jams at our local bar paired up with a genz Benz 2x15 bass cab and the tone was amazing. Especially with the effect pedals I use live. Peavey should really reissue these amps. They sound incredible.
I remember reading on a peavey Facebook group around the time the whole peavey Decade price inflation started because of that QOTSA video that the companion 15 was actually the same circuit as the Decade with a slightly different EQ. Came from the mouth of an engineer who worked at peavey back in the day. You definitely made this amp sound great here!!
I've heard a time or two that the Audition 20 was like a 2 channel Decade. Mine sure sounds like it very well could be. I've used the preamp out of it in front of a Peavey Windsor, as if it was a pedal, and it's killer in that format.
Absolutely top-shelf demo - exactly what I had envisioned, to do this amp justice; the chihuahua of Peaveys, given the Westminster Kennel Club treatment. Thank you, Caleb.
So if you think about it this is the Les Paul of amplifiers. I honestly don’t think I can think of any other guitar amplifier that was boldly and blatantly copied exactly and sold to the public the sued over
I'm still useing my 80s Special 130 Solo series amp. Never has failed me. Brought her out of retirement just this past weekend. Amp is a beast gt pedal format as well. ❤
I have been using these things since the 90's. 3 keys to excellent tone. 1. Use either celestion g12h-100s or mesa celestion black shadows in over size birch cabinets 2. Use an EQ in the loop to roll back the 12k frequency region to eliminate the fizziness. This in conjunction with using the speakers I reccomend really smooth out the top end in this bright amp. 3. If ever there was an amp that reacted positively to adding a BBE sonic maximizer in the loop, it is this one. They are relatively inexpensive and make a huge difference.
I've had one since like 2009, my uncle gave me it when he upgraded and I was just starting to learn guitar, to this day it is the best amp I've owned and I still really enjoy the sounds it makes :p
Hello sir. I recently got a Silver face and want to get a bass cabinet in addition to the guitar cabinet I have. Do you have any tips using this head with bass? Is it okay to switch between sessions? I don't plan on pushing it hard as it's loud as heck even at 8 or 16 ohm. It sounds great in your video. Cheers!
Ahh, fond memories. This was my first amp. I bought it brand new at the local shop. It was one of the very first nice, new things I bought for myself, now having a real job at the age of 18 or 19. I used to lug that heavy thing back and forth to my friend Jess' house every Friday night to play with him. I also became caught up in stuffing every BOSS pedal I could in front of it. In fact the next thing I bought after this amp was the Boss Super Distortion and Feedbacker pedal. I blew the scorpion twice, so finally I installed a Black Widow, and that worked just fine. This amp is still sitting in my bedroom right now, although it looks pretty used now.
Picked one of these up (back broken lol) on a trade, less than 50 dollars in it. No idea what kind of pedal platform I had gotten! Can’t believe these aren’t more popular
Very nice ! The TO800 is a great choice, super cheap copy with great sound. Chuck schuldiner ( from Death Band) was playing with a VS100. When you know how to dial them you can obtain really great tones. I got a Valvestate 8240 stereo chorus since 20 years among others SS and Tube amps, i will never get rid of this gem. Killer in clean & crunch, the Chorus is insane, great reverb, and the OD's are really cool for old school metal. Equipped from factory in dual Celestion G12T75 , you can have them for really cheap and if you sell the celestion to do just a head amp, you win money at the end. Cheers mate lml
The 8240 are great amps! Just one little correction, the speakers are not the T75. They were only labeled G12T and are actually the G12T-100, now found under the name Hot 100 (Legacy).
@@seinthomas I can't tell exactly, since never played both side by side on the same amp. I recommend you to check out their specs on celestion website.
